What is this? I Found a Tool For Sale, That I Do Not Know What it is?
Looks like a tree bark stripper to me.
It's a root cutter, sometimes also called an ice chopper, depending on use.
Root cutter,or back stripper both are possible, need some more information here....
I suppose I will need to return to the shop and see if I can push someone to talk French with me. Asking about tools is a difficult in Africa, they know I am not going to buy it, so why talk to me? I have to find someone who does not believe I am just making fun of him having hand made, primitive tools. They make these tools at various forges around the area, then sell them just as you see. They have a lot of root foods, yams, cassava, etc, so cutting this type of root is possible, but what type of root?
Kpalime has some of the worst French speakers in Togo, so difficult to them to answer questions. There just is not much reason to learn the work in French for the locals for the name of the tool. They will only know Ewe for unique stuff.
Amazon sells them.
