This is Extremely Dangerous in Togo, Only Riding a Bike is More Dangerous On The Road
When I'm in Togo, I try to minimize taxi rides on a motorcycle. I still have not figured out whether a motorcycle taxi driving on dirt roads is more dangerous than on paved roads. What do you think Andy?
First danger is the driver, if the drive is a nut, nothing is safe, so do not get on the back of motorcycles with crazy people, and if you make a bad decision, stop the motorcycle, and get off. Second danger is cars, they will kill you quickest, a head on collision is worst. Third danger is high speed, the higher the speed the most danger. Forth is hardness of surface so on a dirt road is safer is you fall, but more likely you will wreck on dirty, so hard to say. I write moto in back road of the neighborhoods, and walk when the get to the main roads, or paved road. Bike are horrible, they make it easy for a rear on collision, and they do not have mirrors, there is nothing good about bikes, truly nuts to drive a bike.A motorcycle can escape a car or truck, with speed. Bike must hope that ALL drivers are sane, and in Togo, nobody is sane, the FACTUAL worst drivers on the planet, the most accidents on the planet. In the end, choosing a great place to live minimizes the motos. I now take a moto in Lome only straight ahead for 8 blocks, then get in cars. Being fat forces people to buy cars, or rent cars. Having a weak bladder is about the worst possible problem for travel.
