Prototype of a Shower Travel Bag
Hello, here are some questions my friend sent me: I will answer below each question in CAPS:
Okay, you are asking for miracles here! I’m going to ask you some personal questions -
THERE IS NOTHING PERSONAL ABOUT TOILETS, WE ALL USE THEM IN REALITY.
it’s important for me to picture just how the shower area looks in your hotel choices. Obviously, there is no cabinet near the sink to place any of your personal items, thus, the reason to hang everything, right?
NO, NOT THE REASON TO HANG THEM. THE REASON TO HAVE A SHOWER BAG IS FOR QUICK PACKING, OR UNPACKING, MOSTLY FOR AMERICAN, OR EUROPEAN TRAVEL WHERE NOBODY STAYS LONGER THAN 1-2 DAYS. IT IS ALSO NEEDED FOR EUROPEAN HOSTELS WHERE WE MUST CARRY THE SHOWER STUFF TO THE SHOWER, AND IT IS EXTREMELY WET. HERE IN AFRICA, THE PROBLEM IS THE SIZE OF THE SINK, THERE IS NO COUNTER SPACE, YET, SPEED OF PACKING IS NICE.
THE MINUTE YOU PUT SOMETHING ANYWHERE OTHER THAN ONE SPOT, YOU ARE IN DANGER OF LOSING IT, SO THE SHOWER BAG IS ONE PLACE.
1. Does your shower bag get wet from the shower head, or just damp from the moisture in the air and placing wet bottles in it?
THE ONLY PLACE A SHOWER BAG GETS WET IS IN A HOSTEL SHOWER IN EUROPE. THEY GIVE ME A SMALL BOOTH, WITH NO PLACE TO HANG THE BAG. I END UP USING A ONE-GALLON ZIP-LOCK BAG INSTEAD, TRULY A HORROR OF TRAVEL THE HOSTELS IN EUROPE.
2. You want it to also hold a bar of soap…..does that mean there is no other place to put the soap? Do you wash with the bar of soap, or do you soap up a wash rag, then return the soap to a holder of some kind? There are such things as “soap on a rope or soap in a nylon net bag. We can certainly make a pocket to place the soap in….that wouldn’t be a problem.
I NEVER USE A WASH RAG, I USE MY QUICK DRY SCRUB TOWEL, 50 TIMES BETTER THAN WASH RAG. I ROLL UP THE BAR OF SOAP IN THE NET. I WANT THE PLACE FOR SOAP WHEN MOVING, OR AT THE BOTTOM OF BAG TO HANG. THE PROBLEM IS THE SIZE OF SINKS, PLUS THE TILT OF THE SINKS, OFTEN SINKS TILT AND THE SOAP REFUSES TO SIT ON THE EDGE, I NORMALLY SIT THE SOAP ON TOP OF A CUT OFF PIECE OF SOAP. I NEED TO MAKE A PHOTO OF THE NORMAL SHOWER IN 200 COUNTRIES. 99 PERCENT OF HOTELS ON THE PLANET ARE NOT LIKE AMERICAN SHOWERS.
3. If you can hang a roll of toilet paper from the bag, does this mean the bag needs to hang near the toilet, or will you take the roll with you to the toilet? I can easily see attaching a nylon cord with a plastic clip on the end to loop through the roll and clip on to the shower bag, but to transport it with a roll of toilet paper wouldn’t work.
I DO NOT TAKE ROLLS OF TOILET PAPER TO SHOWER,OR TOILET -- A GOOD WAY TO HAVE PROBLEMS. THE PROBLEM WITH TOILET PAPER IS ALWAYS REACHING BEHIND AND TAKING OFF THE BACK OF TOILET. PLUS, WHAT DOES GET WET, IT TOILET PAPER HANGING IN ROLLS ON THE WRONG LOCATIONS. I CAN HANG THE BAG IN A GOOD LOCATION, WE DO NOT HANG BAGS IN WET LOCATIONS, EXCEPT IN EUROPE HOSTEL SHOWER BOOTHS.
I DO NOT TRANSPORT ROLLS, I TAKE THE CORE OUT, STUFF A SMALL PORTION IN MY CARGO PANTS POCKET, AND IF i WAS TO CARRY, I WOULD BUY NAPKINS, NOT TOILET PAPER.
There are some simple nylon net bags out there where we can attach a line to hold a roll of paper and a line to hold a bar of soap in a little nylon net bag. I found a couple, but not sure of exactly what you are looking for yet.
WHAT WOULD BE NICE IS A PIECE OF ALUMINUM THAT WOULD FOLD DOWN TO MAKE A TOILET PAPER HOOK, OR A LONG PIECE OF NYLON ROPE THAT COULD BE HOOKED FOR PAPER.
The tote below is interesting, but you would have to carry all the products in another bag and just roll this one up when not in use or when on the move. The tall one with all the pockets is interesting….if it had velcro to hold the pockets shut when laying the bottles down horizontally, maybe it could be rolled up and closed with velcro straps.
ROLLS TAKE UP TOO MUCH SPACE, THIS NEEDS TO FOLD FLAT, LIKE A BOOK, THE LEAST AMOUNT OF MATERIAL AS POSSIBLE. ALL BOTTLES NEED TO BE IN THE BAG HORIZONTALLY.
At least you could see through these and if we put a loop at the top, you can place the head of a clothes hanger through the loop and hang it like you are doing now, or on a hook.
THE PLASTIC HOLD WATER, SO ANY SOLID PLASTIC JUST IS A WAY TO HOLD WATER, BETTER TO HAVE NYLON THAT DRIES, THE SOLID PLASTIC, THE CAN HOLD WATER. NET IS BEST, BUT HARD NYLON FOR HOLDING HAIR BRUSH, SCISSORS, TOOTHBRUSH. A TOOTH BRUSH NEED TO STICK OUT, AND ALLOW TO DRY TO BE SANITARY, TO PUT ANYWHERE ON A SHELF IS NOT PROPER HYGEINE, IT MUST BE STANDING UP, AND NEVER ALLOW THE BRUSH AREA NEAR ANYTHING, STANDING IN A CUP, 100 PERCENT DRY BEFORE USE. TO PUT A TOOTHBRUSH ON A COUNTER, OR HANGING IN ONE THEM HOLDERS WITH MANY HOLES IS NOT SANITARY. BUT IN THE END, IT IS THE DROPPING THAT CAUSES THE MOST PROBLEMS.
The ones I looked at so far are pretty cheap, hardly worth trying to make a few bucks off them! In any case, I’m just feeling you out right now to see what interests you.
TRAVEL GEAR IS SELDOM USED, IT IS PURCHASED FOR ANTICIPATION. TRULY A TRAVEL BAG IS MOSTLY FOR BUSINESS TRAVELERS WHO WANT TO PACK FAST. FEW, LESS THAN 1 PERCENT OF TRAVELERS USE GEAR LONG ENOUGH TO KNOW WHY IT IS GOOD?
YET, IT DOES MAKE PEOPLE FEEL GOOD TO KNOW THAT SOMEONE LIKE ME WHO TRAVELS ALL THE TIME USES THIS.
Note Truck drivers in the USA, people living in big cities in USA need my travel secret pockets. The chance of me getting mugged is almost higher in the USA or Europe, than here in Togo, West Africa. Crime is about being brave, American have guns, so small men, can become big men. There are few guns in the 225 countries, only in the rich countries like Germany, Switzerland, or USA do they have guns.
I love my secret pockets, but 99 percent is so I do not lose my keys, or drop paper money out of my pockets when i pull my hand out of pockets. Shower bags are for speed of packing, and needed in the USA and Europe, and for 99 percent of the tourist on 1-2 week vacations.
On the Toilet Paper issue, long ago I also found carrying rolls even without the core or just pulling some off is inconvenient. My solution has been to buy a box of kleenex which, out of the box, can fit in any suitcase/backpack. I have a few of those in my pocket and are just as effective and comfortable as toilet paper.
