My 125 USD Per Month Apartment on Lake Atitlan is Not Super Cool

This room apartment in Solola, up the hill from Panajachel, Guatemala is not cool, but it is specifically perfect for me.

It is very difficult to know how much locals pay because the families live together. I am really in a large family house, with at least 3 families here. To be solo, and live alone is not common. There are two doctors that live in this building, so I suppose I am paying more most locals. I think the average locals Guatemalan can afford 75 dollars per month easy enough as the earn around 300 per month. I think it is often common to have a car cost more than the apartments. Truly understanding how much the locals pay is enmeshed into family. Then at work, often food is provided. Then the other situation is the locals often own everything free and clear with no debt, so they are more free than Americas or Europeans.

Function and value over form! Very smart. I get accused of looking like a "hobo" (haha) because I wear the same coat and pants all the time due to the good pockets. They aren't stylish, but very functional. I also blend in when in less desirable parts of town. I am happier then those worried about having/wearing/living in the way that looks the best.
