Modern Technology Is a Curse When the Locals Cannot Afford to Pay
Hi Andy, Its sad the people responsible will not clean the water well by manual labor(buckets. I am interested in the water well at your home with the mid-wife with the children..
The water in the home in Lome, owned by the Midwife has public water, that is safe to drink direct from the faucet. There is no round well in this home, as best I understand, inside cities, one can normally pay a fee and have the water ran to a home. There are large water tanks for most cities in Togo, mainly put in by China I believe, but a few put in by America Europe. Generally, Togo is always waiting for the first world countries to come provide what the local government should be providing. I have become rather hard core on this issue, giving free anything causes normal development to come to a screeching halt, and normal business that provides services to come to a stop. Welfare systems, or aid 95 percent of the time appears to make people dependent, they people stop being independent, and keep looking for the free help. In my well home in Kpalime, Togo I have be very careful and never give anything to anyone, or they will expect it the next day, and on and on. I can be a little generous, but I I give an egg to Orlanda today, she wants one everyday, and they nag. Ines the 20 plus girl has become a true pain in the butt, here sister came to visit, and I gave them about 4 dollars to go eat, and treat the sister. The next day she demanded more money, I refused, and she basically said I was no gentleman, and not a Christian. I am under the belief, that good aid only gives knowledge, ideas, shared tech, science, this allows the locals to develop correct. I think in Star Trek, the prime directive was correct, do not interfere with the development of a culture. Strange as it seems, giving knowledge, or telling someone how to go the library to help themselves is not appreciated, but the correct thing go do, in my opinion. My Mama Says is meant to tell people all the simple common things we believe a Mama should tell their children, but not interfere, or have a person around to beg from, just a TV playing,, saying things like wash your hands, do not touch others peoples food. Malaria is caused by mosquito bites. I believe less than 10 percent of the people in Togo know that Mosquitoes transfer Malaria, there is very little what we call common knowledge, because there is no mass media, newspapers, and the government does not want people to become smart. I am not sure the first world wants these countries to learn. I made the joke the other day to Antoine, if we teach them to read, and write, they would fill out an application to get a visa to the USA or Europe. Development needs mass media to work, public information, common knowledge, sharing of ideas, none of this exist in Togo, they are in constant reinvent the wheel mode. Thanks, Andy
