Missionaries, Billy Give Me Advice on My Negative Attitude
As a nonreligious person, I have a lot of reservations about the consequences of missionary work. For one thing, I worry that attempts to convert Catholics in Latin America to Protestantism may contribute to future instability, even the sort that has occurred in Northern Ireland. I have also heard from experienced travelers that a lot of the hatred among Muslims toward the West results from attempts by Christian missionaries to convert them. Some countries, such as the moderate kingdom of Morocco, have outlawed these practices, I understand.
Migration, or emigration is often seen as a melting pot, generally forcing the poorer culture to melt, or adapts to the richer culture. Often a person from a richer culture is happy there is no rule of law. Truly everyone that enters a culture has an effect on the culture they enter, someone observes. Expats normally bring drinking, drugs, sex, demands to learn English, the list is endless how a richer culture feels the poorer culture should become sophisticated. And, being that expats are often the wanted, the unwanted, and the hermits, not always great influences. Saying, this the missionaries are in my opinion trying to be a good influence, not sure about the others. I see it as part of the human social contract, that we should be good examples. I really want the Missionaries to continue, I just want them to introspect, and have more elders, and less youngsters. As for me, if I had children, it would be hard to expose them to some of the humans I enjoy observing. As for me, I do look at the person next to me, and ask myself, "is this the type of person I want to be?" or, "would this be a good influence on Mom Graham?" On a regular basis I ask Muslims to take responsibility for the Muslims. and I say, "I am responsible for the Christians." I hope this came across, I am responsible for Christians and Americans, they are either my pride, or my shame. Often the world walks around with a club, either looking to hit themselves on the head, or looking for someone to hit.
