Is it Safe for 14 Year Old Boy to Go on Trip to Dominican Republic?

Yes being in DR right now, would more or less agree with comments. 14 year old is probably safe in the area he is going But for adults situation where I am on North Coast (Puerto Plata,Sosua area) is definitely getting more and more dangerous. The worst thing happened recently a German was shot dead in middle of day in Sirena Supermarket Puerto Plata!. Never thought I would see that happen here.
Round the corner from me, a guy was poisoned in a bar having his drink spiked and died on the floor within minutes.
Plus many other house robberies, armed muggings, murders, etc
Puerta Plata is now so dangerous I estimate anyone walking on the Malecon after dark in Puerto Plata has a 80-90 percent chance of getting attacked.
Yes it really is that bad.
Sosua a bit safer as many cops around, but still can be problematic!
Yeah this place is getting rather unhealthy for us Gringos!

Thanks, the Dominican Republic is the only country where an expat can hear stories of violence on a regular basis. I am sure that Pataya, Thailand is high on violence, but the country of Thailand is low.

Yeah and just seen another Malecon horror story today, body of woman found on Malecon with throat slashed by bottle-.so looks like anyone wanting to commit suicide, walk around Puerto Plata Malecon a night!
Crime is out of control in PP and the cops seem unable or unwilling to do anything. Malecon is like a police free Zone at night although its well known as a problem area.
