Chief of Village Gives Permission for Video of Village of Zionou With No Electricity Typical of 20 Percent of Planet
Hi Andy, this is one of your best videos! I will share a different perspective of this village. First a little background about me. I am 64 years old, grew up and worked in Los Angeles, Ca. In my family are Hollywood actors, Attorneys, highly educated relatives. I now live in Alaska off grid, no TV, one radio station, but I do have internet. Ok, my point is I think this village is perfect as it is, no so-called improvements are needed. I have seen families destroyed where I grew up by so-called improvements. I did not hear disgusting rap music that degrades women in the village, children seemed to have respect for older people. The People seemed very happy, they have a local leader, it would be a place I would live. I have seen a place similar to this, destroyed by people trying to improve the so-called low living standard. I would say this village has a very High living standard and places like the people in mansions in Hollywood Ca. has a very Low living standard. When a people are modernize with the latest gadets, along with it comes all the modern Filth which overwhelms the culture and destroys it. I hope NGO's stay away, I hope this village stays the same.
These people are happy, and for the most part content. The problem is they do have knowledge of modern cities, and often leave these little bergs for the big city. Do not get me wrong, I debate for days about people living in these type of situation. The problem is this, the world is not going to stand still, and there are a lot of ideas, books, and small conveniences. For example it is nice to be able to call the Doctor, or arrange to have a load of wood picked up, they sell charcoal in the village. Then it does get rather boring in the dark --- they know of radio, TV, and WhatApp and sort of strive to keep up. There is one thing have the money ,and not buy a cell phone, it is a another to not have the money. Electricity sort of enables money to happy faster, but also not to be envious or jealous. A little higher education and superstitions sort of leave, voodoo is less, and they read, talk, and do other things. Yet, you are 100 percent right, the first goal should always be "First Do No Harm."
