Robbed of money in Ghana
I was told by Taia that a couple of Peace Corps
Volunteers cross the border from Togo to Ghana were robbed by a money changer.
The way I heard the story is they gave the man 60,000 CFA or about 120 US
dollars. Then somehow he just took off running and stole their
money.
Best to always keep the money in your possession
until you count the money, and are positive it is correct, when you have the
money in your hand, then give up the money you owe. Do not trust money
changers.
This was a street transaction and not an exchange
booth.
I normally only change about 20 US, just enough to
get to the next ATM or Bank machine. Crossing the border from Togo to Ghana
would be about 80 Kilometers from Accra. Always a risk to do any business at a
border. 95 percent of the time I find an ATM machine.
