~ TODAY’S TRAVEL TIPS

MY HOBO SLEEP CHEAP CHECKLIST

Call me a hobo, a traveler, a backpacker, or a budget
traveler, but at the end of day, all I want is good
conversation and a cheap sleep.

A tourist trap to me is a place where everytime you turn around you find
yourself paying for something. Paying for water, paying for the
bathroom,
pay for taxi, pay for moving...aaagh !

LIST OF EXTRA COST OR RULES FOR ACCOMMODATIONS
Pay extra for sheets
Pay extra for a locker
Pay extra to store you bag
Pay extra if you do not have a card
Pay extra if you are not a student
Pay extra if you are over 26, 35,
Pay extra if you are not a member
Pay extra for a shower.
Pay extra for number of people in room.
Pay extra if stay less than 4 nights
High season price
Low season price
Weekend Rates, or midweek rates
Cannot sleep in dorm if you are over X age.
Negotiate, or not negotiate?
Reservations needed.
Book 3 months in Advance
Curfew

CHEAP SLEEP CHECKLIST

1. IS IT CONVENIENT?
Is the location walking distance to the train or bus?
Is the location close to why I came to the city, or will I have
to pay to for transportation daily.

2. ARE THERE FREE PRIVATE LOCKERS?
Does it have lockers, or boxes to store valuables. The best is when
you can put your whole backpack into a box, and use your
own lock. Shared security with a stranger is not security
Sharing a room is OK. Allowing my neighbor to steal my
camera, because it is sitting on the bed is stupid.

3. IS THERE FREE KITCHEN?
Is there a kitchen to cook food.

4. IS THERE FREE LAUNDRY?
For the long term budget traveler. This is a standard.
Washing your clothes by hand, and hanging them up to dry.

5. IS IT A HOTEL OR HOSTEL?
Do NOT take this into consideration. The novice
traveler will think that the word HOSTEL means
cheap. It does NOT. Inquire at both.

6. PRICE CONSIDERATIONS
How confusing is the price?
The best possible situation would be.
All people pay the same price.
If it is difficult to understand the price, or you need paper.
to make the calculations. It is too difficult.

7. DOES IT HAVE A FREE COMMON AREA?
A common area to meet, and talk with other travelers.
This is where you can learn from other travelers about
the best places to visit. Good recommendations for
a bed in the next city on your trip. Do not call a restaurant
or bar a common area. You need to pay to be there.

8. NO RESERVATION NEEDED OR OVERFLOW HELP?
A need for a reservation means:
Cost for telephone. Cost of credit card. Possible
overcharge of credit card. Commitment before you look
at the place. A good budget place is when they have an
ability to temporarily accommodate stranded backpackers.

9. FREE SHOWERS?
Look at the shower. Is there really hot water?
I there enough showers? Is there mirrors?
I always look at the shower, and toilets.
Some places sometimes charge for showers?
Bolivia, France

10. FREE LONG TERM BACKPACK STORAGE
A good cheap sleep has had so many people ask them
to store their bag for a few days, that they will have a storage
room for backpacks. You can leave big bag there for days, or
weeks. Go on smaller trips and return. Do NOT store
you bag in a room, unless they lock the room.
This tells me you have found good hobo camp.

AWARE OF NEEDS OF BUDGET TRAVELER
Is the management aware of the needs of long term
backpackers.? Do they help you to find an internet cafe?
Store your backpack, plan your next hotel, or hostel?
Make telephone calls? Or do you have to pay for everything.
Is the only way you can live there it to be a member?
A good backpacker cheap sleep is when the management
helps. If you find that you are always paying everything.
Escape... You are in a trap.
A tourist trap.
