~ hobo SNACK - AREPA ala hobo

In Colombia and Venezuela there are Arepas.
A typical food of those countries I developed a taste for
these Arepas. Made with a white corn flour, very simple to do,
just mix with water, and pat into a patty about the size
of a hamburger and fry in skillet. The special flour is has a nice
taste. This is the simple version, and people then proceed to mix
in anything they wish. Cheese, meat, or spices, etc. to create
their personal Arepa.

I soon found that the flour or HARINA is difficult to buy outside
of Colombia or Venezuela. You can buy it, but you must search
around a lot.

So I have developed the
AREPA ala hobo

Before you say HOW BORING let me tell you why.

Late at night, in those concrete rooms we love so much, reading
my favorite Tom Clancy book of the day.
I get hungry

The town has closed down, the sidewalks are rolled up, and
the steel gates are down over the window.

BUT... I have my electric hot plate
I do not have EGGS.
I do not have MEAT
I do not have Peanut Butter and Bread

I DO have my STAPLES

STAPLE FOODS: A basic dietary item.

Food I carry all the time in my backpack.
Things that do not spoil, rot, or smash, Things that
are OK in the bottom of a bus. Things that survive a good throw
by a taxi driver.

Flour or Harina in Spanish,
Sugar, and spices and everything nice.
