An UPDATE until I get Cambodia organized, next
week I will have a tip.

Siem Reap - Phnom Penh - Sihanouk Ville Cambodia

I am in a three shirt and at least two shower a day country to feel
cool and clean country as it is hot and muggy in this season.
I have traveled from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh, Cambodia by
a fast boat for 23 U.S. Dollars and they wanted Dollars so I am not
sure what that is in Cambodia money of Reals, but Cambodia runs
on Dollars and the Cambodia money is just around for change, even
the prices in the grocery stores seem to be in Dollars, but I am not
sure what happens in the small villages.

PHNOM PENH
I landed in a place called the Capitol Hotel and for 2 Dollars I got a room
with two beds and two fans, and a shower that had a lot of pressure,
but the floor in the room reminded me of India with ground in dirt and
looked like centuries of use. It took me two days to realize that although
the area seemed grungy it is not normal Phnom Penh, Cambodia because
as best I can tell I was in the wholesale market area where they sell everything
and bulk and the trash is in bulk also.

But it's a turn and go location or one day and out location and most travelers
either book for the beach or book for Vietnam and move on down the road.
I think if I would have went to the Boeng Kak area or the Lakeside Hotel I would
be in a 4-5 day area for backpacker. So on the return trip to from the beach to
Phnom Penh I will stay in that area, I guess all I have to do is ask for the
Lakeside Hotel and the taxis will lead the way.

So far the big tourist attractions in Phnom Penh seem pretty depressing
so I went to the beach and will seem them when I return. There is some
school that was used as a torture place by Pol Pot and then there is the
Killing Fields of Pol Pot, I would sure leave the country and change my
name if my last name was Pot in Cambodia.

BEACH LIFE - SIHANOUKVILLE CAMBODIA
I am in the Da Da Hotel presently living in probably one of the best rooms
I have ever had for 3 dollars U.S. It is on what they call Victory Beach or up
the hill from Victory beach. I have not found real backpacker hotels on the
beach they all seem to be either Casinos or occupied by Vendor shacks
that are trying to force you to sit in a chair and eat their food.

A little girl tried very hard to shame me or make feel guilty to buy her
food and then walked off in a snort when I refused telling her I never buy
from people with bad manners.

This is not a beach paradise and I am not going to say I would return
here so quickly, but then again I may change my mind in another week.

I was going to move from the Da Da Hotel, but the lady by the name of
Da Da and her family of four children, husband, two dogs, one cat and
a hen chicken are very nice and Da Da like to talk, and the daughter is
informative so I am getting a cheap culture lesson from the family and in
what appears to be a very decent family. This nice when you are
surrounded by taxi drivers saying things like,

You want smoke,
You want boom boom massage.
You want lady,
Where you go? The reason for a taxi?
You want to shoot - Said in Phnom Penh
(I think he mean guns.)
Vietnam Girls - Big ones 10, little ones 20.
I am not positive what they mean for the little ones.
(I think they mean children... aagh.)

I do not like to talk to taxi drivers and most of time
avoid them, but they can be informative and if a good person
they can be great, but normally taxi drivers, used car salesman,
and Journalist I group together in the same club.

Da Da and family are nice and I decided not to move to Serendipity
Beach where most of the traveler have landed for a 5 Dollar a night hotel,
I have decided to stay in my great culture learning hotel for 3 dollars and
rent a motorbike for 3 dollars and be pay a total of 6 dollars a day and
have a some great motorcycle rides around the area. I normally do not
rent motorbikes because it is too dangerous, but there is almost no
traffic here and they drive on the right side of the road like the USA
and it is more or less ocean side road all along the hilly coast.

This is low season and Victory Beach is dead, but to me it looks like
the night life is a lot better here on Victory Beach than on Serendipity Beach.
There are of older French Expat men here banging away at the Sexy
girls as Da Da calls them, or rent-a-girls as I call them. They all seem to
have a friend. The place has bread so I am happy.

There seems to be two prominent cultures have a imperialistic fight.
British Expats and French Expats with lots of signs for either English
food or Western something, and some India food. What I am having
trouble locating is anything that is Cambodian food.

I can find Vietnam tea and other foods, there is a McDonalds Sign, but
it is not a McDonalds, but the food is not even close to American and I
have no idea what is up with that, but I am only in the observation and
discovery mode of entering Sihanouk Ville, so next week I will give you the
skinny as to the real ins and outs of Sihanouk Ville and for sure what
seems to be here mostly is ins and outs.

Just another day in Paradise!
PLAN YOUR ESCAPE...
