How I feel today, or a start down
the proverbial travelers path.
"I am for doing good to the poor, but I differ in opinion of the
means. I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not
making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out
of it. In my youth I traveled much, and I observed in different
countries, that the more public provisions were made for the
poor, the less they provided for themselves, and of course
became poorer. And, on the contrary, the less was done for
them, the more they did for themselves, and became richer."

~ HOBO STEW (A Dish of Meat and Vegetables)
MARGAO, INDIA or maybe Madgaon
State of Goa
Hello,
How are you? I am fine. Sitting here in the very large and
spacious world of my room with the 4 concretes and a fan.
I have to conclude almost for sure that most of the world
lives in a world surrounded by concrete. Even when I was
in Paris, Barcelona, or London I was in a world of concrete.
The walls are hard. That wood, carpet, and drywall world
is very unusual in the real world.
I forgot to say,
Happy Thanksgiving, to all the readers in the USA who
would think this is normal and respectful behavior. I had a
lot of emails saying this, but not one person reminded me
of this holiday here in India so it totally slipped my mind, so
I am getting to say this after and not before, but this is the
life of a World Traveling Hobo. I am in the streets paying
attention to myself and not others. But I am very thankful to
all the good Gods and the wonderful life I have.
Life is Good.
I left the beach of Palolem and came north more or less a
hour by bus, but maybe about 30 kilometers. I could probably
tell you the exact mileage or kilometers but that is not
important. It took about 1 hour by bus. I suppose a motorcycle
fun and dangerous would be about 30 minutes.
RESTOCK
I am restocking on money, knick-knacks, little of this, and
a little of that. I am in a city that has most everything I need,
so I am taking care of business. It has about 70,000 people.
I have started to move. India and too much life in Europe, Iraq
and other parts of the mixed up and over stimulating world
gave me good juicy mental rationalization on why I should
lay on the beach. But I am sufficiently bored, and ready for a
Too Much Country and the highly overdone world of India.
I think I have it understood enough to slowly meander around
slowly. Unlike my fellow travelers that believe they can
handle anything and everything, but only because they
are crazies, I know that I must go slowly to enjoy the life
because I can only handle what I can handle.
NEXT STOP GOKARNA
I am trying to think about India. That is a big thought.
But life is good and I will leave after this letter is sent for
Gokarna, it is about 2 hours by train south of here, or
6 hours by bus and has some kind of tank to dip the
people for some reason. I will go find out why?
I will be changing channels here in this country. I will leave
the state of Goa and enter the state of Karnataka. It appears
that when you change the look, clothes, language, and
probably the smell you are in another country or state.
I think, but who knows for sure, but I feel that I the culture
will make a change of channels.

MIDDLE CLASS GUILT - REMEMBER - Part 1
Go This Way!
OK, let me think Middle is in the center, or above the
lower and below the upper, but what is a class? There
is a class system in some countries or most very distinct.
But the middle class, do they have a guilty conscious? I say,
Yes.
What would you do if you won the lottery?
What would you do if you had a million Dollars,
Pounds, or Euros?
Some of you would flaunt it and buy a sports car
and new house. Other would rub it in the face of their
ex-wife, boss, or co-worker, or anybody that would listen.
How would you behave?
You are rich and everyone around you is not.
What happens if you are rich you think they are poor.
I SAID, THINK
All the ideas about poverty, malnourishment, bad water, and
all the social issues that keep the NGOs and the
United Nations driving the big cars is a difficult subject.
I have spent the last 6-7 years roaming around in countries
that are labeled with one of these names.
Developing
Undeveloped
Third World Nations
This I feel and believe is about 80 percent of the planet.
Hard to know because I have not seen the whole planet and
I do not believe the United Nations and the NGOs. They
mean good, but they have not seen the planet either, some
more then others.
THINK
I am writing this to explain about your vacation to a cheap
country. That is why we go to the underdeveloped
countries is because they are cheap and often very
beautiful in comparison to our home.
Go this way and enjoy the country but
REMEMBER
You are a millionaire! To them.
So what happens with most people do when they
suddenly become a millionaire?
They feel guilty.
REMEMBER you are just a normal person.
No more, no less, you owe the world nothing but to treat
people with respect and to have good manners.
Go visit your friends and neighbors in other countries.
Spend some money, enjoy your visit and be a good
neighbor. The world is a wonderful place, but if you
feel guilty it will prejudice you opinion of the world.
Go This Way
Just another day in Paradise!

~ TODAYS TRAVEL TIPS
HOW TO HIDE? PART 1
I am on vacation, why would I hide? Well, if you are in a
too much country then maybe that is a good way to enjoy
the country. There really is a thing called culture clash.
It is when the way you live is different then the way another
person lives. There is nothing wrong with this, but it can
be downright painful.
STRESS
Observing, looking, buying, talking and looking is
enlightening, but it is also stressful. If learning were
so enjoyable, then everyone would be in reading,
or taking a class, and staying in University all their lives.
Most people are happy when they are finish with
their studies.
Culture clash creates a classroom of the world.
You walk around and your mind is just too full of
thoughts! You need to hide, and give your brain a
break. I have a daily routine that keeps my life
under stressed and closer to the edge of boredom
then to the edge of madness.
TOO MUCH
Too many people.
Too many noises.
Too much thinking.
Too much walking.
All work and no play makes for a dull boy.
Benjamin Franklin.
HOW TO HIDE WHEN TRAVELING?
PROBABLY GOOD:
1 Do something that you normally do, like reading a
book, or drinking refreshment with your friends.
2. Do something regular and monotonous, like riding
the bus, or the train.
3. Do something you can control. Like sew up your
pants, or clean your clothes.
4. Stop telling yourself, I got to go see this.
5. Limit the area of your exploration, like maybe
you should just stay inside the resort.
I AM NOT SURE:
1. Drink a lot of alcohol with your friends or a
couple recreational drugs.
2. Sleep a lot, and stay in bed all day.
3. Argue, complain, discuss, or talk to one person.
4. Go buy clothes.
5. Limit the area of your exploration, like maybe
you should just stay inside the resort.
I suppose there is a balance somewhere, but if you
did not have it at home, you will not have it while
traveling. So enjoy and rock and roll because
life is what it is, and then I go to the beach.
This is one place I hide.
Just another day in Paradise!
PLAN YOUR ESCAPE...
Be a Hobo, and leave your mark.

-------------------------------------------------------------
COMMENT OR QUESTION:
-------------------------------------------------------------
Are you still in Palolem Beach? Sounds like a wonderful
adventure! I checked out your Andy's favorites for air fares
and would like your opinion on
could this actually become one of your favorites, if not your
top choice? I'm looking for someone like you with 'a world
of travel experience' to give me some feedback and to start
booking airfares and accommodations. I'm not some
big corporation, just a gal that likes people and has big dreams.
Sharon D.
ANSWER:
I am in Margao, now.
Sharon is referring to my webpage system I have been using
or slowly updating of my 100 plus links on my homepage.
She is referring to when she clicked on "Airplane" it went to
first "Andy's Favorites."
Go look and you will see "Andy's Favorites."
This is to hopefully allow the viewer to save time and
effort by me pointing first to the best or most useful. I am starting to
to use my own website to find information.
The questions are:
Will I check it out?
I went and checked it out and nicely constructed and helpful
site but still not much different then a lot of similar sites.
Johnnyjet.com is the expert at sites that are similar to yours.
I believe you are making money by affiliate links and when
a person buys you earn money. But the unique content is
what I look for, and I am not sure...? A site grows and changes
and with effort the uniqueness can grow.
Could this actually become one of your favorites?
Of course it could, but it is not now. This formula you
have for your site is rampant in the
"Travel Industry Web Sites."
Could the become my top choice?
I would love it it would some day. I am always
looking at pages, but your in a tough competition.
Go check on Johnnyjet.com and see what he does
good and unique. I have used some of his strategies
in my pages. I mostly study newsletters to see if I can
learn some new helpful hints to make my page grow.

Dear Andy,
The army makes these really neat sleeping bag covers.
These are semi-waterproof and can be used to sleep
inside or on the ground. You can buy liners for some types
of these or put in a light sleeping bag. I bought mine at
a store so try,
You can get a hammock/mosquto net from

COMMENT OR QUESTION:
-------------------------------------------------------------
Hey Andy,
Of all the places you've been, Goa is the one place that makes
me envious. Have enjoyed looking at your pics. Wouldn't mind
seeing some photos of all the hippies on the beach and some
shots of the GOA trance parties (it's not that I don't enjoy looking
at a turtle net on the beach).
Maybe you could oblige an old friend....
Happy Thanksgiving!
Mike
ANSWER:
This has to do with the "Goa Thing" or the stereotype
idea of Goa for travelers or people that wish to come
go or talk about traveling to Goa.
There is a real and historical image of Goa as a place
for traveler to go, do drugs, live on the beach in a homemade
hut and leave the machine. The new trance parties and the
techno scene is a evolution of this drop-out scene of the past.
So when I say I am going to Goa a lot of people will assume
I went or am here for the drugs and party.
But so far Mike I have not seen any of the Hippies you wish
for me to photograph or the Techno or Trance parties. I am
probably on the wrong beaches. I will take photos when I stumble
across.
As always Party and Debauchery sells more then Turtles.
But that is ok today. I did not come for the party.
I wonder about the envy. Why would anyone envy coming
to Goa? It is a good beach area, but now it is being taken
over completely by the British Charter Package Tours.
-------------------------------------------------------------
COMMENT OR QUESTION:
-------------------------------------------------------------
Hi:
States in India are divided into districts, not counties.
"Town" is usually used as nomenclature for small,
semi-rural cities. So you have the big metropolises, like
Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, etc., and then you have
smaller cities like Goa, Pune, Lucknow, and then, you have
towns, like say maybe Thrissur, or Vrindavan, or places
like that. And then you have places which are totally rural,
which are villages. But this is still pretty vague and not fixed
- what you choose to call a place is your wish - there is no
definite "term" of reference as such for a specific place!!
Read about the turtle adventures...
Sounds like you're enjoying Goa...
Have fun!!
Sumathi.
ANSWER:
I was confused when I went to the small village of
Chaudi, India just off the beach from Palolem Beach.
The name of the place on the city building said,
"Chaudi and Canacona."
The train stop was Canacona.
But I finally realized they had these "Towns."
or maybe counties. This still is confusing. On the map
I looked at they called them.
"Tauluk" and in another place "Taluka"
The big problem is the Train because that seems
to stop at the "Town" or "Taluka." But the word "Town"
is not being used correctly if I understand. The word "Town"
in India means "County" in USA English.
But the solution is probably that I will take me
guidebook map and point at the place. Then ask
the conductor or ticket collector what stop to de-board.
I will normally ask everyone in my path.
