LONDON TO INDIA
Hello, How are you?
I am off to India in 1 day. Trying to get this
newsletter on the road and out of my mind before
I change the channel in my brain from England to
India.
Life has been good in England, and I am happy here
in many ways. I suppose Europe or England is an
acquired taste for me. The European travelers I meet on
the road are not the best ambassadors of their
respective countries and this often leads me
avoid Europe.
But most of the travelers I meet in other countries
are under 25 and this is one of the rebellious times
in life so not a fair to Europe to use them as the only
representation of the countries. But life is about
avoiding the negative people and finding the happy path.
As always a happy person seems to smile more.
PARIS - BARCELONA - LONDON
Let me think. Every country and every city is the
best when I am there, but my hindsight is 20-20.
If I was recommending to my parent on how to visit
Europe I would say to them. Spend about 2 days in Paris,
about 1 week in England, and 1 week in Barcelona.
If you are extremely rich. Anything goes. but for my
factory working class parents. This would be great.
Paris is better for saying you was there.
London is full of history, and the museums are free.
Barcelona is comfortable and has a beach.
I personally like the tropical countries and do not
want to live in cold countries. Too much work for me.
FAILED TO SEND THIS LETTER
I was trying to send this newsletter before I left England.
That did not happen. I have been in India a few days
already and if you have been reading the blog you
are aware of this. I try to write these newsletters in
real time or as they happen. This is impossible.
Travel is and should be about change. There are
always choices and different paths. I try to tell you
my future plans but they always change. I know this
is confusing for all my readers. But I want you to travel
the same path with me, so I leave all this confusion
in the letters and do not edit or doctor them up to make
them more consistent in the hope you understand how
I often feel.
Travel to me is like standing in front of the scarecrow
in the Wizard of Oz and having to make a decision.
I would say the advice the Scarecrow gave Judy
was as good as it gets.
So now I am in Palolem Beach.
State of Goa, Country of India.
Life is a Beach!
Relax, sit back and enjoy India with me in
the future issue of this noise I call a newsletter.
Today's go this way is about:
SPRING OR FALL IN EUROPE?

SPRING OR FALL IN EUROPE?
There are thousands of reasons to visit
Europe. A a rule of thumb. I would come before
the students are home from University for summer
or after they return. This would be the best time to visit.
If you are a student. Wait until you are finished
with University for Europe or go to South America,
or anywhere but Europe.
So my recommendation is to visit in Spring or Fall.
If you want to the party.
Summer is the time.
Working in Europe. It appears that people that
are already working go travel during the summer.
So the spring or early summer in may be a good
time to work in Europe. Plus with the in surge of
new tourist for the summer season. There are lots
of service jobs. Waitress, cleaning, etc.

~ TODAYS TRAVEL TIPS
FITTED SHEETS
Have you ever woke up in middle of the night and
discovered you was sleeping on the bare mattress?
In my present Hostel, that would be a plastic feeling.
If you do wake up, you may not like what you see.
Most sheets in hotels are clean. Even the cheapest
hotel normally give you clean sheets, but the mattress
may be worn, or permanently stained from years of
use. So the sheet is your protection from any existing
problems with the mattress or leftover people history.
I like a good set of sheets. A fitted sheet on the bottom,
and a nice flat sheet on top. Not all countries or cultures
consider this standard operating procedure.
In the Mom and Pop type Hotels. The family ran place
where they make you feel at home. The Bed and Breakfast
with the great hospitality. The great Hostel that is
popular with all the travelers. The sheet situations can
be lax.
I AM BEWILDERED
I spend about 7-8 hours sleeping daily.
I spend about 3-5 hours hanging around in my room.
When you travel. Your room is your home.
It is the only place I have that is my space.
I am confused and bewildered. But the sheets just
do not seem to be a priority in Hotels. It is a priority
to have clean sheets, but to make sure they are properly
fitted to the mattress is not a priority in 80 percent
of the Hotels and Hostels I enter.
I am absolutely amazed with this, and sometimes
think that maybe the people live at home in the
same manner and this does not annoy them.
But for me. I like to sleep in a bed with sheets.
Comfort in a hotel is about a lot of little things.
You may not notice that it annoys you. But in
the end the sum total of all the annoyances
will be remembered.
POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS:
1. SHEET STRAPS
Looks like a garter strap.
This my recommendation. It would be good to
carry these with you when you travel.
http://www.hobotraveler.com/130london01.shtml
2. SLEEPING BAG LINER:
This can be purchased in gear shops.
A good price is around 15 - 20 US
Dollars. This is basically two top sheets sown
together with a zipper on the side.
3. DUVET COVER:
This is a huge sheet cover that is
on a mini mattress or covers a quilt. Maybe called
a quilt cover. But it is like a huge pillow case.
You can sleep inside of this.
http://www.hobotraveler.com/129londonbridge01_01.shtml
4. LIVE IN A 5 STAR HOTEL
I am not sure? This may or may not work.
I hope the percentage of chance goes up. This may actually only
mean that the maids come in daily and change the sheets and
tuck them in very good. Not really the proper solution.
5. CAMPERS OR CARAVANS:
A mobile home that is yours. You can outfit it the
the way you wish.
REASONS NEEDED
1. Stained mattress.
2. Bedbugs
3. Uncomfortable.
4. Cleanliness
5. Organized
Your room feels better, and your life is better.
It will be the small things you miss on tour,
and often the solution is just a small thing.

TODAYS TIP FROM THE
Peanut Gallery
Fun tips - Here's a little tip from me, to you,
as an experienced traveler.
Email your girlfriend or boyfriend at a 1-2 ratio.
They will like you more when you return home.
This mean either you write twice and they
write one time or the other way around.
Either way you can win. But if this is a problem,
then you are better off when they leave you.
Love is not about keeping count.

~ HOBO QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
-------------------------------------------------------------
COMMENT OR QUESTION:
-------------------------------------------------------------
Hi Andy,
I hope you are enjoying England. I just wanted to ask you,
how do you deal with the loneliness? I know that you meet
up with people along the way, but don't you ever feel the
need for the company of a real friend? Someone who
really knows you?
Cheers,
Susan from Australia
ANSWER:
I think loneliness and talking to a real friend are too
different things. I think loneliness can be relieved
by just having some interesting conversations and
some laughs with just about anyone or any group of
people.
Intimacy or sharing myself with a real friend.
For me this is easy also. I will tell most anyone anything
I think about. Obvious if you read my blog.
I think to chunk this question down to the derivative
problems we see most people are afraid of change.
I am not sure their true or real friend is any better
then any other person the meet on the street.
I try to look forward to change. I want the world and
me to change daily. I want things to stay the same.
I want the love of my life to never leave. I want paradise
to be forever, and I want my parent to never die.
I wish to live forever. I really wish I was 24 and not
my present age. I could chat up the girls better.
So I must accept change, with no fear. I have
learned that living in a changing world is best.
Denial is an eternal frustration of rage.
The second part of loneliness is the need to be
touched. Some would equate this to sex. I am sure
that I need touched and the hugs of the world.
I really buy into that give a person a hug thing that
is preached. I believe that to give people a hug
a touch on the shoulder is great thing.
For a person that likes themselves, anywhere in
the world is ok. I am always with my best friend.
Myself.
Self esteem, confidence, fear, and avoidance.
Books are written about these and I have read
lots of them. I have had some crazy days in my
life. But to me the solution is to become very very
good at something. To be the master of something to
the point where you can say you are or feel you are
an expert. You will define yourself by this and
you will be separated from the rabble of normal
life.
Emails to friends are sometimes better then
real life. The person is free to express without
interruption.

COMMENT OR QUESTION:
-------------------------------------------------------------
Subject: Re: Hobo TRAVEL TIPS - beowulf
I don't think anyone is too sure where Beowulf takes
place but I believe it's in the forest of
Rendlesham--Suffolk--East Anglia....
Summer
ANSWER:
Thanks Summer.
My reference to me searching for Beowulf
was for sort of like looking for Godot. I will
keep searching and never find the answer.
I read Beowulf the book in University.
A great book and I was name dropping.
I really do like the book. I suppose I was testing
the my world on mental agility. See who is listening?
I do this often. More often then not. No one is
listening. But I was listening to myself. I was
dwelling on what I think about and telling you.
EXPLANATION OF BEOWULF FROM
Encyclopedia Britannica:
"heroic poem, the highest achievement of Old English
literature and the earliest European vernacular epic.
Preserved in a single manuscript (Cotton Vitellius A XV)
from c. 1000, it deals with events of the early 6th century
and is believed to have been composed between 700 and 750.
It did not appear in print until 1815. Although originally
untitled, it was later named after the Scandinavian hero
Beowulf, whose exploits and character provide its
connecting theme. There is no evidence of a historical
Beowulf, but some characters, sites, and events in
the poem can be historically verified."
Fun subject to explore. Lots of rocks in that field
to pick up and look under.

COMMENT OR QUESTION:
-------------------------------------------------------------
ANSWER: My mother is pulling rank on me and chiding
me into publishing this. I did not want to do this. But in
the end. Friends and family is more important then my
newsletter or travel. Plus my Mother and Father, Family
and friends are the energy, blood, and contributing power
that makes me be me. I am part of them. So I give back
when asked.
Greetings To All Of Hobo Andy's Faithful Readers.
I am Andy's mom and I am asking a huge favor of all of you
faithful readers. PLEASE WISH HOBO ANDY A
HAPPY BIRTHDAY SATURDAY, OCTOBER 25th.
I will not tell you how old he is but let me say he comes
from a large loving family of one brother and three sisters.
He has three great brother in law's and one really nice
sister in law. Of course his brother and sisters are all married and
have children who think Uncle Andy is really great because he loves
adventure. Needless to say, Andy's dad and I are very proud
of him and always wish all of God's Blessings for him. All of
our children have lots of relatives and friends who love them
in this little village, 400 people, where they grew up but trust
me when I say, Andy was on their minds and in their prayers
when he was in Baghdad. Please wish Hobo Andy a
Happy Birthday. Thank you.

COMMENT OR QUESTION:
-------------------------------------------------------------
hi Andy
what kind of camera are you using ?
pictures are really great.
thanks
the old lady in Washington
lynn
ANSWER:
70 percent of my photos are taken with a web cam
used as a normal digital camera. It is made by Creative
and is the best 40 dollars spend twice. I am on
my second camera.
30 percent are taken with a Sony Mavica that
uses the 3.5 floppy dick. It has a 10 power optical
zoom and take the perfect size photos for a web page.
Cost about 400 Dollars USA.
I do not think you can normally tell which camera I am
using. I carry with me the cheapie read to use.
I only get out the Sony for when I must capture the
difficult photo.
I have taken about 5000 digital pictures and put
on web pages. I also get personally better at photos
with time.
I made a page a few months ago to answer frequently
asked questions on how I do things, or what I use.
It has some photos or links to these items.
