URFA OR SILOPI TURKEY
Hello,
I told you both locations. I am not sure when
this newsletter will be completed and if I will
have the time available for a complete update.
I leave tomorrow morning for Silopi, Turkey.
Silopi is located on the Turkey / Iraq border
more or less, and may or may not have internet.
If it does not have internet I will return to Urfa to
publish the letter. This could lead to a lot of confusion
so I apologize in advance.
(NOTE: I made it to Silopi and they have internet.)
I think some of you believe in conspiracies
and
think I write all these letters, but do not travel.
It would be a lot simpler. Whenever I read the
writing of travel writers I wonder if they even left
the Hotel. It is extremely difficult to go the dodgy
places and keep accurate records of what happened.
It would be easier to create from my imagination.
As long as it made sense, then no one would know
the difference. But that is not for me. Last week
I told you that I was going to the beach. But they
went and killed both of Saddams sons, so I decided
to go for the border and see what is up.
Silopi is 150 kilometer from Mosul.
THE BOOK - I TOLD YOU.
I had a reminder from a friend that I said,
"I was going to finish a book."
She said,
"You dropped that like a hot potatoes."
I would write a book for money.
A little bit of an intellectual challenge.
But most of all to have enough money to Travel.
I travel for fun and curiosity.
To stop the boredom of the day.
The goal is to travel. Not to write a book.
The goal of travel is not this newsletter.
The goal is to travel.
I made great money in the USA.
Thanks to all the Gods that be.
But I will eventually finish my book or
books.
I will wander through the world as I wonder
through my life. I will also agree to change my
plans and itinerary. I will buy a one way ticket.
ENCYCLOPEDIA
I love this this encyclopedia program on my
laptop computer. It is better than any guidebook
I could buy, and what everyone says they wants.
An unbiased explanation.
IDENTIFICATION CARDS OF TURKEY
A curious thing happens in Turkey.
People show me their Identification card.
Then they point out how they are required
to place the word Islam in the religion line.
They are frustrated with their country sometimes.
The one person says. If I do not put Islam on
this line. I would maybe have lots of trouble.
This has got to cause some huge statistical errors.
I do not care what religion people are and
very seldom would ask. Seems like bad manners.
I wonder why people insist on telling you their
religion or even more often, they tell you why
they are NOT religious.
Sounds like a lot of personal problems to me.
I just ask myself.
Is this a good person or a bad person?
The come in all brands.
Note:
I do not like the words Jihad or Crusades.

MONEY NEEDED TO BE HOBO
-------------------------------------------------------------
~ Hoboguide.com GO
THIS WAY!
I RECOMMEND TURKEY
This country is full of cherry pies and
amber fields of grain. People that shake
your hand and insist you share with them a cup
of tea. Asking you where you are from
and where you go? Wanting to know
everything about you and your family.
I woke in the early morning. A revelation
has popped into my head, and I needed to
write it down before if flees.
Something is missing in Turkey!
The bullshit.
I listen to recommendations on where
to travel with trepidation. I have learned
that people talk in code. They will tell you
about a beautiful place, but there is a hidden
secret on why people really go there, and no one
is going to just come out and tell you the truth.
I am a cultural traveler.
I want to know the people of a country.
Where they eat breakfast, and with who?
How they work and where they live?
How they spend there day?
I am in the right place.
Turkey is a wonderful place full of
history and beautiful people and places.
There is no bullshit and no code.
Just a good place to visit with the family.
Disneyland. A place for everyone.
Trojan Horses.
Noah's Ark. (Mount Ararat)
Pistachio Trees.
Magic Carpets.
A place with fresh fruit.
I cringe when people say they want to
go to Costa Rica. Cuba, Amsterdam or
Thailand. I am not sure if they know the
code...? I do not ask.
If someone in the future says,
"I went to Turkey."
I will stop and listen.
I will ask lots of questions and not cringe.
They traveled through time to a place
of history and culture.
I recommend Turkey.
PLAN YOUR ESCAPE...
Be a Hobo, and leave your mark.

~ TODAYS TRAVEL TIPS
BACKPACK CAMOUFLAGE
How to protect from thieves.
I recently purchased a new front pack.
A front pack is backpacker terminology for
a normal small backpack that you wear on the front.
This is the method to carry 2 backpacks.
A large regular one on your back and a smaller
one on your front.
My large backpack is old, dirty, and worn.
The new front pack was new, clean, and in
perfect shape.
So what is the problem?
I look like a virgin.
A newbie.
My first day out on the road.
Out on my first tour.
Aaagh!
AIRPORT FASHION
In the airport you can tell how the world
wants to travel. They want to travel First Class
and in Luxury. The airport if full of fashion and
trendy wannabe type people.
Backpackers are the same. The only difference
normally is they are younger and it is fashion
to have a backpack.
So to most, new, clean, and in perfect
condition and they are happy.
The are the perfect wannabe..
Robbed.
ROB THE RICH KID.
I am so happy. I figured out how to make
my backpack look like crap.
I really do want to look like a Hobo.
A poor bum that is not carrying 2500 dollars
worth of Computer, Camcorder, and Digital
Cameras in my front pack.
NOTE: This is always a surprise at the
security
checkpoint at the airport.
Executive... Computer.
Executive... Computer.
Hippie... Computer, Camcorder, Digital. etc.
Ooops. I one upped them.
MAKE IT OLD?
So how do you make a backpack old and
worn looking in 10 minutes?
NEEDED:
1. Can of Spray paint.
Probably black or brown.
I used black.
2. Duct Tape.
3. Magic Marker or Felt Marker.
Any color.
4. Knife, razor blade, or utility knife
Something sharp to cut.
MAKE DIRTY
Take the can of spray paint. Stand maybe
4 foot away and lightly spray the bag.
Speckle the bag. Make it look dirty.
MAKE OLD
Take the duct tape and wrap around the
handle. Maybe in a couple of other places.
MAKE USED
Take the markers and write your name
on the bag. Write some Graffiti on the bag.
Write the name of your last 5 lovers.
MAKE CHEAP
Cut them brand named tags off.
Mountain this, Sierra that...
The brand named bag is dangerous.
Do not prove to the robber you have money.
QUESTION OF FLAGS?
A person that has traveled a lot...
May or may not have a lot of flags.
It is not that important.
( Exception for Canadians. )
DO NOT BE A WIMP.
Do not pretend to be from another country.
If I see that have the wrong flags on your
bag, then I might make you a wimp.
Be proud of who you are, and the
robbers will see you are confident.
They want to rob the wimps.
For the sake of dirt.
After the paint is dry. Take the bag
and stand in the dirt and give it
some character.
This can be also be done to your large
backpack. And now you are a seasoned
traveler and not a soft target.
You are now camouflaged.
You do not look like a virgin.

Fun tips - Here's a little tip from me, to you,

Try watching CNN and BBC.
Pretend that all the opinions are just the opposite.

Cheap Bribes in Turkey.
The bus stopped at a police checkpoint.
We got off cheap. Just one box of purified water.
No money, just a gift...
This is a good country.
