SUMMER SOLSTICE
June 21st was the first day of summer. Travel
has
made me super sensitive to the 4 major aspects that
controls the weather.
1. Elevation
2. Date
3. Latitude and
4. Winds.
I am trying to understand the winds. But
truthfully
for the most part, I am just bewildered by wind. You will
not hear me say,
"The jet stream carries the cool air down from
China to the Mekong Valley."
But, that is what I think happens. But it is just a
educated guess right now. I know some day I will
connect all the dots, and understand the winds.
Christopher Columbus understood the winds and
this was the reason he was able to discover America.
He understood that there were winds always blowing
West in the South Atlantic, and there
were winds always blowing East in the North Atlantic.
So he sailed his small ship with the winds.
Info on Summer Solstice ( First day of
Summer)
SAILING WITH THE WIND
This is the challenge of adventure travel.
To choose the best path. To learn which way the
wind blows. To find out how high is the mountain.
To choose the correct date to start the expedition.
I am presently about 42 degrees above the
Equator.
The first day of summer is when the sun is 23 1/2
degrees above the equator circling the earth.
So the sun is closest it will ever be in the year, and
it is the longest day of the year.
LINK TO LATITUDE:
SUMMER IN IRAQ
I have been reading some guides on Iraq.
They warn of extreme heats in the Iraqi summer.
I am hoping they exaggerate like most guidebooks.
But I will error on the side of caution, and make
choices assuming they are correct. The temperature
in Baghdad is suppose to rise to 110 Fahrenheit.
So,
"What is blowing in the wind?"
NEW TOY
I have added a new toy to my website or newsletter.
It is a "BLOG." This is the ideal way for a traveler to
keep their journal or diary of an adventure online for
their friends to read. It is a LOG that is posted on the
internet. I trying to daily log in my adventures or thoughts
in the BLOG. A day to day rambling of thoughts.
If you want your friends to read the story of
your trip.
Publish for free on:
http://www.blogger.com
This is now owned by Google.com so you have a better
than normal chance they will not go out of business.
This is a problem with free internet services. They
will just one day go out of business and tough luck for
you. This was a successful company that got purchased
by Google.com so I believe it is safe.

5 THING I DO NOT LIKE ABOUT THE USA
The USA is my mother. It gave me birth and
and raised me to be the Hobo Tramp I am today.
So do not sit there and think I am able or willing
to say nasty things about my mother.
But here are a few annoyances that have been
eating away at me since this recent visit to the USA.
1. BREAD?
The first problem. Where is the bread?
I have developed a habit of buying small loaves of
breads in the morning Market. The bread here
in the USA is only sold in large loaves or is really
a donut. In most countries I visit there are small types
of bake goods about the size of donuts sold in the street.
Lots of varieties. It would seem that when you have
a store as large as football field in the USA, they could have
more choices of bread. I can buy 20 varieties of
coffee from anywhere on the planet, but the varieties
of bread are missing.
2. WORK
The people of the USA work way too much.
They are too busy working to talk.
They are too busy being busy to take time
for a conversation. There is an extreme overabundance
of things, and no time to talk. The rest of the
world sits around doing nothing most of the day.
This make the day fun. They do not have as
much, but they do have time to talk.
This should change in the USA.
3. WOMEN
We should trade them for Latin Women.
Or give them money to get the operation to
become men. This would appear to be the goal
of the American woman. To be a man.
4. LOUD
I never understood this complaint from the Europeans.
But I am starting to agree. Americans are too loud.
So are the Italians, Brazilians, and a few other
cultures, but I am presently annoyed by my
fellow countryman. Please speak softly and
carry a big stick.
5. VOICE MAIL
There is not a reason to make a telephone call.
No one picks up the telephone.
Thank you.
I suppose that I could say,
Life is just too easy in the USA.
Just another day in Paradise!

~ TODAYS TRAVEL TIPS
GET A PASSPORT?
A passport is needed to travel the world.
This is a lot easier than you think. Walk
into
any travel agents office in the world. Try to
buy a ticket to another country....
They should want your passport.
TRAVEL AGENTS:
Mostly for the USA people.
WALK INTO A TRAVEL AGENT
Ask about getting a passport.
They should begin to walk you through the
local process and questions and soon will have
a passport.
Simple... Obey and perform.
If they do not know how to help you,
go find an intelligent travel agent and forget
that person.

MY NEED - CHECKLIST
1. PASSPORT PHOTOS
Walk into any film processing store and
ask about getting passport photos.
I was amazed the other day to see that
Wal-Mart can give you passport photos
while you wait.
2. BIRTH CERTIFICATE and other
identification.
County office of where you was born.
3. MONEY - The passport cost money.
4. SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER
5. TIME - You need about 2 month time...
But if you are in a hurry, it is possible.
I believe it is possible to get a passport in 1 day.
EXTREME PROBLEMS:
Call you local Senator or Congressman.
They can cut any red tape, or pay a passport service to
help. This page has links to help.
