LOSS OF FRIEND

My computer is broke. and I have no
computer. The 3.5 drive will not work,
and I think it has a virus eating it.

I wanted to buy a new one a year ago,
and could not afford the money,
but now I must.

I have Windows 95 and it is 2003.
So that tells you about the age.
6 years and 40 countries old.
I wish I had time to calculate
the bus mileage. Probably has gone
around the planet at least twice
riding the bus with me.

I am glad though I did not buy a new one
a year ago. The internet cafes have...
Windows XP Home Addition
Windows XP Professional
Windows 98
Millenium.

I have used every type of configuration
and computer system in the world for
2 hours per day. Then I went back to work on my
computers Windows 95 system.

I have no need for a new computer.
I need the same.
COMPAQ PRESARIO 1200 SERIES
28 megs of Ram, and 1.6 Gig hard drive.
Contact me if you have one...
Write HoboTraveler.com.

I am hoping that someone has this computer
sitting on a shelf collecting dust.
Lots of people buy laptop computers and
in the end never use them. This is the
one I need. The one that has not been
used for some reason.

NO COMPUTER NEWSLETTER
So what does this mean?
My newsletters will be written on the
fly inside an internet cafe, with almost
no time for proofreading. Lots of mispelled
words, and confusion... maybe.

But I will limp along.
But I still miss my travel companion.
The thing I talked to when bored or
tired, or have too much time.
My place to collect and store my thoughts.

LAOS TO BANGKOK
I left Laos and came to Bangkok.
I purchased a plane ticket to the USA
for the 8th of February.

I will return again on my around the
world trip and do Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia
again on another stop.

CHICAGO TRADE SHOW
There is a trade show in Chicago
starting on the 19th of February.
It is an Adventure Travel show.
I will attend. They said they was
giving me a press pass. I was a little
put off, because I thought I was an
adventurer...

PUBLISH MY BOOK
While in the USA I will finish my
book an put it on the market.
It should be available in the next
90 days.

SO WHAT TO DO
without my friend.
THE BEACH!

Always a good solution.
I am going back to my favorite beach
in Thailand. Koh Pha Ngan.
Where they have the full moon party.
Plus a few topless women.
Lots of movies to watch.

FUTURE
I will travel around the USA
and visit a friend to earn money
making a webpage for his father.
Go to the trade show and try to
snag some sponsors.
"I need money."
Fix tons of problems on my pages.

Then
ENGLAND, TEL AVIV, INDIA,
NEPAL, CHINA, AND BACK TO BANGKOK.

Todays - Going this way is about

~   HOBOGUIDE.COM GO THIS WAY !

LAOS - FEELS LIKE GUATEMAULA

The future Guatemaula.
Give them one more year to have adequate
electricity in Laos and the place
will be another Guatemaula. If you have
toured Guatemaula. You will understand what
I mean.

But Guatemuala is the center of Backpacker
Universe for Central America. Cheap rooms,
lots of culture, and fun.

Laos is a great alternative.
Lots of local culture, and people are
friendly. The goverment appears to be on
a visitor promotional campaign. So life is good.

VISA
The 30 day visa of Southeast Asia is
great decreasing the number of long term
backpackers. Normally a country like this I
would be entering, going on to Vietnam.
Coming back. Going into Cambodia, and
entering and leaving all the time.

The hard part about Southeast Asia
is that they make the visa entries so confusing
that it is easier to stay in one country or leave.

CHOOSING THE ROUTE
After about 9 months I can honestly choose some
of the best "Farang" or foreigners trails to follow.
In Laos it is probably best to leave Thailand
from the Chang Rai or Chang Mai area and cross
the border at Chong Khong.

RIVER
It is river travel only from here to
Luang Prabang.
If you tour around this area, and
talk with local bus tours. You can go
to the remote or difficult areas with ease.
Using Luang Prabang at the center of
your Hobo Universe.

Than proceed south by but to Vang Vieng.
Than to next to the border city of
Vientienne. This is the best route because
the river is going downstream towards
Vientiane. The other way, and you will need
to backtrack. If you are proceeding on to
Vietnam and Hanoi than Vientiane is fine.

People in Laos are friendly and helpful.
The still have the "I cannot be bothered"
attitude of Asia. But they are nice and safe
as a Buddhist Country.

Cost in the remote areas is 1 dollar a night
for room. And in Luang Prabang and major
cities the same as Thailand. Starting at
about 3 dollars per night.

To do the lower parts of Laos is probably a
separate journey unless you love to move
everyday. You only will have a 30 day visa
and to enjoy this country it would take
60 days at least for the whole country.

The journey about is nice in either 15 or
30 days. So a good route.

If you have suggestions for paths, routes
or the best way to travel through Southeast
Asia. Please write in detail on this page.
http://www.hobotraveler.com/routes.php

It is best to carry Thai Baht in Laos.
Easy to spend through the country.
There are no ATM machine for bank cards,
but you can get a cash advance on credit cards.

Women....It is against the law for a foreigner
to have sexual relations with a Laos girl.
I am 95 percent sure of that. Not 100 percent.
This is good in lots of ways, and changes
the channel of the types of travelers in Laos.

And it is a better channel.
A little more electricity, hot water showers
and life would be perfect.

Thanx

Just another day in Paradise!

~ TODAY’S TRAVEL TIPS

A HOP, SKIP, AND A JUMP
How to plan your daily travel
from place to place?

A week or two vacation you plan
in advance.

A month or year touring of a
continent is planned week by week.

STRESS
This is what most traveler seem
to want. To live an action packed
life of travel stress.
The move very fast, and try to see
everthing. Intent on saying to there
friends when they return home...
"I saw this, I saw that."
Sort of work to me.
I thought we was on vacation.

RELIVE THE STRESS.

HOP:
A move of that takes less than 4 hours.

SKIP:
Staying only one night in a place.

JUMP:
A move that take between 12 and who
knows how many hours.
The most time I have spent on a bus
is 37 hours in Brazil. One 30 plus
in Argentina, and another in Chile.
These are jumps.

1 DAY TRAVEL - 2 DAYS TO ENJOY DESTINATION.
...repeat...
I like this type of trip.
Some countries the distance is
to far. I can jump or I can hop.

1 DAY TRAVEL - 5 DAYS TO ENJOY
This is the better way.
Than take day trip from your
base camp city.
EXAMPLE: Go to Bangkok.
Stay in the same hotel and
make day trips around the area.

HOP AND SKIP...THAN JUMP
Really this is HOP HOP JUMP.
But I call the middle a skip.
So Hop - Skip - Jump

1 Hop to city, and a jump.
Walk around in the afternoon.
Look at everthing.
I do NOT unpack.
I can see a city, but really
do not want to stay.
If for some reason the SKIP city
is a good one. I can change my plans.
Sort of test trip, and an abilty
to sees quickly the place, or skip.

The skip is the interlude.
The short time in this location.
I do not spend 2 days or 5.
I do not unpack.
Packing and unpacking is the stress.

EXAMPLE:
I left Luang Prabang, Laos.

HOPPED TO: Vang Vieng.
Left at 8 got into Vang Vieng
6 hours later... oops.
More than 4.
The goal is 4 but I had no choice.
Spent the night there, and left
the next morning. I did not unpack.

JUMPED TO: Bangkok, Thailaand
About 20 hours in bus.
Spend 5 days in Bangkok.

I will now JUMP to Koh Phan Ngan
12 hour on overnight bus
and a boat trip.

This way of looking at travel
is to relieve travel stress.
If you take hops or jumps everyday.
That is work.

Just another day in Paradise!
PLAN YOUR ESCAPE...
Be a Hobo, and leave your mark.

As always, these are suggestions. Please realize I am
giving guidance, and there are always other opinions.
“One mans paradise, is another mans hell”
This way we do not all go to the same place.
