CITY OF TEMPLES
CHANG MAI, THAILAND

Chang Mai is located in the very north of Thailand.
Cooler and mountains, it is nice break
from the heat of southern Thailand.

It is a full on tourist city.
Hard to see the cultural part of the city for
the cars. They are selling it all. Tours, trinkets, curios
and a few extra women.
Except lots of culture in the Woks or Buddhist Temples.
This place is one big Temple.
If you want to see a lot of Buddhist Temples.
This is the place. You can walk down the street
and every block has a temple.

I personally do not like to look at churches or
religious buildings. I am not sure I know why,
I think I feel disrespectful to the Monks
or priest. But I have to admit. Looking at religious
buildings, shrines, and other religion related
things is probably the number one tourist activity
in the world and is big money.

So do not sit around and think I am going to put
a lots of picture up of religious things. I think it is in
bad taste to over promote this stuff.
But if it is real easy. I will.
So in this issue. Pictures of Temples.
It was very easy to take pictures. I just walked
down the block and on every corner they have one.

COOKING SCHOOLS
If I had a woman, or a girlfriend. I would be trying to
talk her into going to the cooking schools with me here in
Chiang Mai. This so far would be my recommended
place to learn to cook Thai food.
I found a hotel / guesthouse that has a school
Guesthouse is about 5 dollars a night, and the school
is about 10-15 per day.

MEN HATERS
For all you men haters. I have some fun word games.
The word for “Stinks” in the Thai language is....
hehehe
“MEN”
Pronounced about the same with that Oriental Twang.
Pretend you are in one of them Karate movies and
say the word, and you are close.

The word for please here is Krap.
Pronounced like the word “Crap.”
I would not say they have good manners.
maybe full of “Krap.” yes.

ECO-TOURISM RESEARCH
What a subject?
No clarity to be found.
No simple answers.

I have been trying to get a clear understanding
of this subject now for 4 years. I see the signs
everywhere. I can only say one thing for sure.
As soon as I see a sign that has the word
“Eco” on it. I think of scammers or corruption.

But in the same obnoxious efforts I have as normal.
I will soon put in my 10 cents. I would say 2 cents.
But this is 10 cents. I think I have written a book on
the subject. It is at least 150 pages so far.
Do not worry. I am not going send the whole thing
to your email box.

IF GOOD ENOUGH FOR ALEX
Why not me?

There is always the comments about
Alex Garland the writer of the book “The Beach”
that he wrote the book so he would have money to
to satisfy his addiction to travel.

On careful and diligent review of the subject
and my bank account. I have come to the conclusion
that this may be my only way out of this mess.
I have to write a book.
I cannot force you to pay for internet stuff, and
really do not have a desire to push for that.

But 2 major things occur in my brain.
Or I have 2 major problems.

1. How to I write about something too big
for a newsletter.

2. How do I get the time to write about a subject
that is too big for a newsletter.

I think the answer is a book.

I know most of you think of me as a bum.
Aaagh. Hobo please...
Thinking I do not do enough research on these
letters. Get a life.
A Hobo is a Hobo. He does not sit around
giving your references, bibliographies, and glossary
of terms, with complete footnotes, annotations of sources.
He just talks.
( I do not sit around polishing apples, and I
do not sit around polishing this newsletter.,
I let her fly... )

In reality. I do so much damn research. I think
I am driving myself crazy. It would definitely drive
me crazy if I gave you all the references I use
to create these newsletters. I would take more
time to create the reference page than the letter.

BORROWED IDEAS
OK. this is how it works for a writer.
We borrow a lot of concepts and ideas.
Put them together in our own words, and call it
original. I cannot say the last time my brain
had a quantum leap, or an absolutely original idea.
It is always a combination of ideas.
I will say, or admit and accept.
I steal a lot of good ideas, or cannot remember
where I heard them.

NOTE:
( I could write a book of references longer than the
book on just the allusions in the book “The Beach.”)

ECO AND OTHER IDEAS
On this Eco topic though. Because you never trust
anything unless quoted from someone else.
I will have references for everything.
No original ideas. Just a synthesis or digest of
all the worst and best minds on the subject.

Please for all the wannabe intellectuals.
“A good idea is a good idea.”
It does not need a reference or footnote
to be a good idea.

I am looking for a Jobs in Asia.
Hmm.. The tradeoff is I will have less time
to write a book and newsletters, but I will have
money. I hate when the money issue wins.
I would probably take room and board in change
for advertising.

ART AND WORDS
The best quotes are on T-shirts.

I like a good T-shirt.
Only if it says something fun.
The simple T-shirt is probably the best
souvenirs a person can buy.

I found an Art Shop a.k.a. T-Shirt Shack
in Chang Mai that is spectacular.
If you do not find what you want.
He will paint it.

Lazy Buffalo
John Gallery - Artist
330 Thadpae
Chiangmai 50300
Thailand

How do you explain great art that
become a T-Shirt?
My kind of art.

This shop is a battery charger.
Full of emotional highs.
Go visit it for energy.
John is fun and happy.

FUN QUOTES ON SHIRTS
And lots of other places.
Murals, paintings, the walls.

“Live your dream,
Don’t dream your life.”

“Don’t Worry,
Make money.”

COMPARATIVE RELIGION
Taoism: Shit Happens
Buddhism: If happens, its really not shit.
Zen: What is the sound of shit happening.
Hinduism: This shit happened before.
Protestant: Shit won’t happen if you work harder.
Catholicism: If shit happens, I deserved it.
Voodoo: Shit does not just happen. It is done for you.
John Gallery: Let me paint this shit

He signs all his work, and makes life paradise.
The balance between work, play and true art.
http://www9.plala.or.jp/johngallery/

I really would like a Muslim version.
Islam: Hmmm maybe...
There is only allow one shit, and we be it.

~ TODAY’S TRAVEL TIPS

DEALING WITH BEGGARS

I have never saw a beggar in my home city,
but have found them to be common
in the rest of the world.

Just a note:
The friendliest beggars I have
ever met are in Montreal Canada. Very polite.

BEGGAR RULES.

WHO IS QUALIFIED?
I give to these ones.

1. MISSING BODY PARTS
That do not have or are missing body
parts. A leg, an arm, or some other part.

2. TOO OLD TO WORK.
There are very very old people with no money.
This is the responsibility of the country.
But I do give very old people money.
I will be old someday also.

3. FOOD BEGGARS
I am not talking about money.
Say you have a piece of bread in your hands.
A person looks at you and wants you to share it
or give them some. I share.

4. SPECIAL CRAZY
There are those people that are so crazy
they do not know how to take care of themselves.
I saw a guy in Otavalo Ecuador who was in shorts,
freezing, and sitting on the sidewalk. I saw this man
daily. He never asked for money or food.
I gave him some food. I am not sure he would
know what to do with money.

5. MAIMED ON PURPOSE
I am told that in some places the people cripple
or maim their children on purpose. I would not give.
It would only make them do it to another, and another
and another. But think on this one.
Tell me ideas.

MISCELLANEOUS RULES OR IDEAS

1. Giving money to people make or creates
beggars.
2. Do not give money to people that do not
ask for money. That is an insult.
3. If you want to give money to someone.
Buy something from them. There is pride in
this type of business. Maybe you will pay
just a little too much, or your offer will be just
a little too high.
4. Do not give to OBNOXIOUS beggars.
That just encourages them to be obnoxious.
5. Do not do the job of the government.
Lots of countries rely on the world to take
care of their people. There is enough money in
all countries if they share the wealth.
6. If the person comes into a restaurant to
beg at your table. Never give.
7. Doubling up on you.
Hitting you up daily.
Wanting a daily beg.
Give to the beggars only one time.
Unless you want to live with them.
8. Do not trust a beggar.
Poor does not mean they are honest.
9. There is nothing noble about being a beggar.
10. Now...
Give me some money.... Idea number 3

SAVE THE WORLD
There are people that need taken care of
and helped. In the developed countries the
government takes care of their people.

If you see an old person begging.
That usually means the government of the
country is not taking care of that person.
Complain about this country to everyone.
The United Nations, and their government included..

What the world needs most is a
good retirement plan.
(Aha... Also a map, maybe mufflers
on all vehicles. a.k.a. World Peace.)
Presently the best way to retire is to have 10
children. One of them will take care of you...
Maybe?

Wonder why there is population growth
in underdeveloped countries?
No retirement plan.

HELP my research.
I have been trying to locate a list countries
that have some form or retirement or benefits like
“Social Security” or “Medicaid.”
and the list of countries that does not?
A way for old people to guarantee they have money
that is sponsored by the GOVERNMENT.
I am NOT looking for private pension plans.
Please put in the letter to editor.

As always, these are suggestions. Please realize I am
giving guidance, and there are always other opinions.
“One mans paradise, is another mans hell”
This way we do not all go to the same place.
