THAILAND WEEK ONE

Got on the plane.
I went to Detroit Michigan, then
to Seattle Washington, then to Tokyo, Japan, then
to Bangkok, Thailand. My parents always told
me if I dug a hole deep enough in the back
yard I would go to China. I have calculated
and I think they was correct. I have found though that
if I dig just a little to the south I will end up in Thailand.
It took over 24 hours to get there.
But still faster than digging.

I appear to be on the exact opposite side of the
planet. I have a alarm clock set to Indiana time
and I did not have to change it. It was ready
to go. I am 12 hours different then Indiana. When
it is 8 o’clock in the morning here, it will be 8 o’clock
in the evening there. This will be real easy for me
to remember in my head until things like me traveling
east or west, or things like daylight savings time in
the USA kicks in. I never could understand all the time
changes and in reality. Just cannot be bothered. The
only time it is really important is when you are calling
someone very far away. And who wants to pay
for that type of telephone call., so I do not make that
long distant call that much to have to worry about the
problem.

This place is like a breath of fresh air after a few
years in Central and South America.
I feel very alive and energized.
Ready to take on the world.

Funny how this is, or why?
I am in a place where.
I do not speak the language and they
speak English very bad. Hand signs seem to
be my best form of communication.
The maps, and directions given make
everywhere else I have been seem simple.

Why do I feel so happy and content, when
I have entered a place where I have no control.
No knowledge or understanding,
No ability to communicate with the local.
Just vulnerable and alive.
Another day in paradise.
Searching for the beach.

I have two digital camera in my possession.
A cheap excellent one that is both a webcam and
handheld camera for stills. And I purchased a Sony
Mavica, that is exactly the same as the one that
broke and I had to discard. I think the number of
photos will not be TRIPLE of what was before.
So for all of you people that really do like to look
want to look at pictures. You have hit paydirt.
Great pictures of the local in color. weeee

Here is a classic.
I got an e-mail form “Heidi”.
Great girl in a smart-ass type of way.
Friend I met in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
She says she on this island and says to come
visit and she will buy me drink, coffee, or whatever.
I told you she was a smart-ass.
She is a good friend, and I want to hear the gossip
on her Mexican boyfriend. So I will go.
But here is the best part.
A girl named Heidi from NORWAY.
Her parents are trying to torture her.
Well, she is lots of fun. It time to not eat for a day.
I am going to the beach... Great photos on the way.
These are good, but sort of a city, and architecture.
In the next one. Scenery... Not nature.
The Islands name is Koh Tao..
Close to the full moon party island.

BANGKOK THAILAND

This is my section where I try to be nice
and tell you a story of my adventure and
fun and give you a glimpse into a
life less normal and maybe a good excuse
to escape yours.

3 days in the country of Thailand and I can
honestly say,
“I have the perspective of a tourist.
That just got off the plane and is just too happy
to be here.”
I know nothing...
But I am taking lots of photos.
So next issue.. good stuff.

There are many layers to a culture and country.
And to understand who, and where you are,
you must peal off the layers to expose the
center, then probably only find there is yet another
dimension to the story.

To be fair to my readers and myself. I will go
slow in this pealing process and start with photos
and I will go hunt for my knife to peal off some
of the layers of this country.

All the photos are above... UP
Or read the tip on how to saw it off.

Maybe it will help you to...
PLAN YOUR ESCAPE...
Be a Hobo, and leave your mark.

~ TODAY’S TRAVEL TIPS

SAW IT OFF - BETTER THAT WAY

Get out your hacksaw. Not the wood saw.
The one with the little small blade that looks
like a bow and arrow. It is for cutting steel.
I am going to tell you what you need to cut off,
or saw off.
(Nothing to do with old girlfriends or boyfriends)

IT WILL BE BETTER THIS WAY
Trust me.

In your backpack, your suitcase, or
carry-on there are object that are just too long.
Thing that do not fit easily into all them small
spaces. Or if they do but are just awkward.

The other problem is sharpness.
If you take a sharp strong object and squeeze
it from both sides. It will not give, but the thing
that is squeezing it will. That will probably be
the side of your backpack. The side of your
suitcase, or the zip-lock bag that is around the
sharp object. If you make the object just a little
shorter it will pack better.

I have one sharp kitchen knife that I have been
wanting to bring down a notch or two for the last 2 years.
I got near a hacksaw and was happy to cut
two inches off its length. I now can relax and
feel safe, that it is know not going to cut through
the side of my bag. I will never hear a complaint
out of that knife again.

Lots of problems are small. Then after a few months
or years they become big. At first this problem was
just nuisance but after a couple of years it became
a pain in my .... !!AT#$!$

All of you want to know what to pack?
Weight is not the real problem for me.
Staying organized. That is a problem.
I have a lot of miscellaneous junk. I even have
two plastic jars that I call my junk drawers.
You probably have one in your kitchen. The one
that holds the extra screwdriver. A few twist ties, a
and anything that you really do not know what do
do with. Maybe a screw that fell of something and
you cannot find what to do with. But feel you should
save in the future event you need just that thing.

I have a couple of jars just for that type of junk
and I have carried them for a couple of years.
Never know when you need some things.

HOW TO STAY ORGANIZED

A place for everything and everything in its place.
I do have a place for everything, but not everything
will fit into my chosen place. The things are too
long.

1. Toothbrush
2. Spatula
This is to cook or turn over eggs
Pancakes for the veggie friends.
3. Hair Brush
4. Butter Knife
( The normal kitchen type to spread peanut
butter.. I cannot help myself...
I love to say that. Peanut Butter irritates
the Europeans... Ok. I will spread chocolate.
5. Screw Driver #2 Phillips
6. Steak Knife, or Cutting Knife
One that has a blade long enough to cut up a
pineapple. A bowie knife is good. But very big.
7 Can opener
The kind you push up and down and work around
the edge. I do not have one anymore. Found a
really small type at Wal-Mart.

These things are too long.
Need them about 5-6 inches.
or about 15 Centimeters.

SAW IT OFF
If you do not know this process.
I am a little worried.
Come travel with me.
I will teach you.
( Bring credit card )

You can now carry them or pack them inside
a pencil bag, plastic peanut butter jar, or
zip-lock bag. Or if you look real hard a cooking
set. I think the cub scouts or boy scouts will sell
you some cheap ones. Or look in a military supply
place. They really do know how to trek better
than the backpack gear stores.

TODAY’S TIP FROM THE “Peanut Gallery” Fun tips
Here's a little tip from me, to you, as an experienced traveler.

Tell the girl on the first date...
That you:
Run around with other women...
Drink too much...
Hang around with your mates and come home late.
and ...   say
“I am a jerk”

Then when she tells you later, you can say.
“I told you that on the first date”
