MAYBERRY USA

Simple...
Catch a plane from Lima, Peru to Miami, Florida.
Pay 7 dollar for a taxi to the Greyhound Bus Station.
Pay 109 dollars USA.
Sit in the bus for 30 plus hour and you are back in
Mayberry USA.

I was sitting on the bus next to a guy from
Gary, Indiana. He spoke a very strange language.
At first I did not understand him, then slowly my
mind adjusted to the sounds, and I was able to
understand. We did the normal exchange of
greetings, and he made a little chuckle when I
told him I live close to Fort Wayne, Indiana.

He said,
“You live in Mayberry.”

He was talking about and old television show that
starred Andy Griffith, Ron Howard, and Don
Knots and portrayed a small rural town in small
town USA,

I do not always understand the world, but there
is always a little competition between places.
Indiana against Ohio. USA against Europe.
England against France, etc. When he said that
I lived in Mayberry he was making class and
culture distinction. I am making the same
subtle reference when I say,
“He spoke a very strange language.”
He spoke English, but he needed to take a
classe in pronunciation. I would recommend
he watch television and try to copy.
Maybe a little less MTV and more of the
Soap Operas.

Yep...
! I live in a place similar to Mayberry USA.
and I am leaving Thursday for the “Beach”.
Hopefully I can say,
“Just another day in paradise”.
The movie the Beach with Leonardo DiCaprio
that same actor that was in the movie Titanic played in a
movie that was staged in Thailand and is about
travelers like me. I did not check real hard, but it
seem to be on an island called
Phi Phi Leh in the South of Thailand off the west coast
of Thailand.
http://www.sunnytoday.com/index_phiphi.asp

I watched it again the other night
and will soon write a fun newsletter telling if I think
it portrays travelers or hobo’s correctly.

I really do live in a small town of about 400 people
north of Fort Wayne, Indiana and it does resemble
Mayberry. The place is great. I am glad to live
there and call it home. We go a restaurant called
Chubby’s, and Kim’s Barber shop with a red and
white candystripe pole. An American Legion with
a Helicopter in the Front, A lumber yard called
Dudley’s with local carpenters entering and leaving,
and an occasional Amish guy.

Just the other day the
town cop accidentally shot off a bullet in the Legion
and like Don Knots he is a good man, but is in
a little trouble now. We have a Fish Hatchery and
the Fawn river at the North end of town. It was
wear I learned to swim with and without clothes.
We used a big stump for diving platform and hunted
for frogs, turtles, tadpoles, and anything else we could
shoot at with our BB guns. Went camping with
the Cows and caused all sorts of headaches for
the farmer and our parents.

There is three churches and a volunteer fire
department. A small volunteer ran library.

There is a fashion to
talk bad of your city, country, school, family etc.
I am patriotic, or nationalistic...
Translated to... I like where I live.
I’ve seen a lot of the other places and this
is a good place. I am grateful.

I leave for Bangkok, Thailand this Thursday
June 6th. I just realized there was another invasion
on that date besides hobo’s.
I will wonder around Asia, and look
for the world most perfect beach.
And for all you guys out there take some
pictures of the local scenery...
Hehehe that is not nature.

HOW TO MAKE TRAVEL DECISIONS?
(Song by Jo Dee Messina)
Her and Shakira can come travel with me !
***
"Heads Carolina, Tails California"

-Baby, what do you say we just get lost?
Leave this one horse town like two rebels without a
cause.
I got people in Boston.
Ain't your daddy still in Des Moines?
We can pack up tomorrow.
Tonight, let's flip a coin

Heads, Carolina Tails, California.
Somewhere greener, somewhere warmer.
Up in the mountains, down by the ocean.
Where? It don't matter, as long as we're goin'
Somewhere together. I've got a quarter.
Heads, Carolina Tails, California.

~   Hoboguide.com GO THIS WAY !

WHERE WE DREAM IN RED, WHITE AND BLUE
Only in America !

Walk over to the town restaurant and take
a seat. Nod your head, shake a hand, and
drink a cup of coffee. Say hello to normal people
starting the day in a typical USA community.

I leave and walk slowly home.
No stop lights, and only one town cop.
Stopping as I jaywalk across the center of the
4 way stop to my parents house.
I am sure at least one or two people
are watching and thinking,
“What is he looking at?”

Where am I?
Where have I been?
What am I doing here?

The air seems a little cleaner,
and life seems very simple here.
Trying to understand what I see,
or what I do not see.
This is No-Wheres-Ville USA.

But like the television show “Cheers”.
Everyone knows your name.

Looking North, South, East and West.
All road leave town. But I need to keep
moving, or someone will come out
and ask me,
“You need some help,
Whats’UP.. . Are you Jerry’s boy?
I haven’t seen you in a while,
Where you been?”
I would say,
“No where important.”
and walk on home.

But I just saw something very important.
More United States Flags then I seen
in the last year. Everywhere I look.
Quietly screaming a me.
“You are in the USA,
Do not forget it?”
This is normal
No-Wheres-Ville USA.

WHERE TO VISIT IN THE USA?

I get asked this question and my normal
answer is...

The USA is different then the rest of the
world. In Europe 75 percent of the people
live in the city. In the USA 75 percent live
in the country. New York City and Los Angeles
do not elect the president. They just are very
noisy. If you wish to understand America
you need to go to a small town USA and walk
into a restaurant and sit down and wait...
and you will discover America.

There is small local restaurant in every town.
There is a table, or counter where a group
of people will come daily to exchange some
stories and catch up on gossip.

The regulars.
The coffee clutch.
The good ole boys.

Soon, they will ask,
“Where are you from?”
This will probably scare you.
Why would anyone want to know about me?
What do they want?
They will soon know everything about
you and everyone will know your name.
“You are in the USA.”

Normal people in
No-Wheres-Ville USA.
Farmers, factory workers, bankers,
A few former Mexicans. A mixed up
combination of people and cultures
being good ole boys...

The United States is the benchmark for
Democracy. The rest of the world still has
Kings & Queens and Dictators and sadly a
“Class System”

I think these flags and people say
we are all the same, and all in this together
From the riches to the poorest all men
are men are created equal..
They dream in...
Red, White and Blue
“Yeah we dream as big as we want to”
Only in America !

***
(Song by Brooks & Dunn)
ONLY IN AMERICA

Sun coming up over...

Only in America
Where we dream in red, white and blue
Only in America
Where we dream as big as we want to
We all get a chance
Everybody gets to dance
Only in America

Yeah only in America
Where we dream in red, white and blue
Yeah we dream as big as we want to
