This tutorial outlines a process where you will boot your computer from a USB Flash Drive and backup your Windows Operating System.

Requirements:

- 1 USB flash Drive of a minimum 4GB

- 1 USB external hard disk of a minimum 160GB


Step 1) Download the Linux Mint DVD

Step 2) Download the Universal USB Installer

Step 3) Plug the USB flash drive into the computer

Step 4) Run the Universal USB Installer

Step 5) Choose the option Try Some Other Live Linux ISO. Choose the Linux Mint ISO file. Select the USB Flash Drive. Click Create.

Step 6) Do NOT remove the flash drive. Restart the Computer

Step 7) Choose the option BOOT from the USB flash drive

Step 8) Linux Mint will load. Once you get to the desktop, insert the other external USB hard drive

Step 9) Double click on Computer on the Desktop. Select your Windows partition.

Step 10) Select all folders (use control + A shortcut) or press the control key and select all files

Step 11) Open Computer from the Desktop. Select the External USB hard drive. Create a new directory backups.

Step 12) Paste the Windows Files in the External USB hard drive

Step 13) After the copy is created, shut down the computer. Unplug all the USB devices.
