I Find Myself At War With Comfort, But Not Luxury

Comfort is now my enemy, as I am surrounded by a world that avoids discomfort the currency of all human progress, don't get comfortable of you will die. Stanley Principle.

Living a life of challenge, of continuous adaptation is the building blocks of self-esteem, confidence, while other seek comfort, I seek a better me, paid for with discomfort. Thank, Andy Lee Graham

“Most of the luxuries, and many of the so-called comforts of life, are not only not indispensable, but positive hindrances to the elevation of mankind.”
? Henry David Thoreau

“Man wanted a home, a place for warmth, or comfort, first of physical warmth, then the warmth of the affections.”
? Henry David Thoreau, Walden

“I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life, to live so sturdily and Spartan-like as to put to rout all that was not life”
? Henry David Thoreau, Walden

It is quite possible I am at war with the comforts of life, while I appreciate comfort, which is obviously of value, especially after a 28-35 hour multiple plan trip between Chicago, USA, and Bangkok, Thailand. We wish the pain to stop, the discomfort to end, we want the comforts of home to surround, and cuddle like Mother. However, maybe too, this is the problem, when our Mothers are no longer comforting us, like a spoiled child, we throw a tantrum, angry that we, me, you need to endure any discomfort.

The genius of each man can be weighed, we can experiment with each student, college, man, woman, and child, to measure their natural genius.

I am grateful for the good fortune, to travel to Togo, West Africa, to see simple problems, needs of life, like drinking water, that have not been solved. Or, for instance, electricity, why the electricity goes off randomly is beyond my mind to grasp. There is a mathematical calculate quantity of electricity created, and the same math can be applied for usage. It is my proposition, the local cultures are not willing to withstand the discomfort of math, the emotional pain of concentrating, they are waiting for mom to solve the problems.

Behind every great comfort, is one, to many people who decide to exchange pain of doing math problems, for the comfort of dependable electricity, and please, don't talk about the electrical pole hit by a truck -- we know about these variables. These people who endure, persist are few, that serve the many.

In developing countries, the leaders are not willing to say, "do it." and mean it, because that is too much discomfort.

Great intelligence, our genius is weighed by our capacity to endure the discomforts of thinking; as thinking, and emotions are commingled, tied together, their reciprocity of reactions are like ping pong ball. We feel discomfort, therefore we think, decide to change out situation, we turn up the heat. The electricity bill arrives, and we realize, maybe best to reduce our comfort zone 2 degrees.

80-95 percent of the USA in my guesstimation spend 80-95 percent of their money on comforts, feeling of entitlement, the belief in highly developed countries, over-developed, abnormal ones is we deserve our comforts; without paying for them with discomfort. It appears the factory owners, the creators of industry, entrepreneurs, innovators were genius, paid with emotional pain, concentration for the great masses of people in their respective countries to live, like children, you show up for work 8 hours, and stand here, with a Union to protect you, and we will give you amazing comforts, which you pay with so little pain, then they still complain while theirs intellectual souls drown in comfort.

Walk up to sane people, obviously there is an over-abundance of insane, walk to any person you feel is respectable, holding within them a level of common sense, and they seem to make good decisions, and ask them a series of question, one after another, like a machine gun. You may need to take notes, do you know yourself, how many questions can you endure to ask, how much pain can you endure?

Great endurance is needed, by both the person asking the questions, and the person answering; and anger is not allowed, it is too powerful of fuel for a sensible conversation, or adults to permit, we are assuming people wish be adult, anger is for children.

How many question can we drill at the average sane person before the run hiding behind excuses? The failure of the USA, Europe, will eventually transpire when the debaucherous desire for pleasure is so plentiful, there is no one left to pay with pain.

Pain, and discomfort it the prices of greatness; feed the cows, and the do not try to escape, this is modern man.

With good fortune, I endeavored to make, construct, to arrange a combination of ideas into one package, in Togo, Africa. If we combine many innovations, inventions together, they can send a rocket to the moon.

In Togo, West Africa, or Guatemala, or the USA, one can take a drawing to a metal worker, a shop, and if adequately drawn, specific, the bigger brains working can perform the work, some can even anticipate design flaws, and fix them.

Amazing though, to ask more than 2-4 questions of the average metal worker in Togo, West Africa, and he runs, become angry, too angry to continue, "I want to make money, I don't want to work." That is what he is thinking, even though he does not know that, so I must return the next day, and ask 2-4 more questions, until after a series of days, I can acquire all the answers sufficient for me, to decide to make the metal device I need.

In the USA, maybe we get up to 10, with an exceptional work, we tempt them, the challenge is their pay, they bite, they are so bored with life, they live in so many comforts, they dream of one challenge to make life worth living, this is the 1 in 100 in America, and 1 in 1000 in Africa.

There are people who live for the challenge of adapting, and overcoming  discomfort, for the unlimited satisfactions, the building of confidence, and self-esteem. The others are now watching YouTube, angry, or happy, there is a small different, both are endorphin rushes, feeding themselves emotions, and refusing to endure real challenges, discomforts, to build self-esteem.

Anger is the easy endorphin rush, if a person is slow, cannot find enough happy endorphin rushes, when they fail to find enough sexual pleasure, they often turn towards anger, rants, and choose to believe, they are right, conspiracy theory people believe in anger, how can a wise person choose to study, read, watch people who like a devil, want people to share their anger?

The Hobo Way is to walk slow, to talk slowly, to know that discomfort is the price of living a life worth living, where our self-esteem, our sense of pride grows. We love the challenges of life, we win another day, life is good. To champion great comforts, is to say, I am tired, I give up, don't get comfortable or you die, this is the "Stanley Principle."

First written in Kpalime, Togo West Africa, as a chapter in book, which may be titled, "The Hobo Way - Walden."
