Canon Wins the Race

Canon Wins the Race
I went into Best Buys; with the help of one of the workers I entered two cameras in a race.

CANON
PowerShot SX10 IS
Versus
SONY
Cyber-shot® Digital Camera DSC-H50

Look there to see the two cameras from a prior post.

We held the two cameras, and clicked the both power buttons at the same time and waited for the cameras to power up and ready to shoot.

The Canon was easy winner; therefore, I purchased the Canon yesterday.

I want to make a video, showing how fast I can remove my camera from my backpack, take a photo and return to my holster… hehehe

NOTE: My goal is to appear as if I am not carrying a camera, I do not like to volunteer to be robbed.

I think the value of photos, the ability to sell photos, are directly proportional to the ability to be robbed. If very safe, pretty much the photo has little sales value, if you are in extreme danger; the photos you take become more valuable.

There are all sorts of annoying problems that bridge on danger, sometimes I am just trying to avoid looking rich, or the need to answer many questions because I have a camera.

If everyone around you has a camera, maybe the photos are not so special… or needed.

What to Expect When Telling the Truth

What to Expect When Telling the Truth

I happened upon a great quote today,

"All Truth passes through Three Stages:
First, it is Ridiculed...
Second, it is Violently Opposed...
Third, it is Accepted as being Self-Evident."
- Arthur Schopenhauer (1778-1860)

I feel a warm sense of satisfaction when I read quotes that give me a clear view of my world. I have intuitively understood this quote for years, however never could blurt it out clearly in words.

I just told my Mom yesterday,
“If I want to get a person really mad, I tell them the truth.”

When the truth is brought into the light confusion disappears, and the harsh judgments of reality rule.

List a few Traveler Countries

List a few Traveler Countries

Who is qualified to call himself or herself an experienced traveler?

I have started a couple of research projects, for one of the projects I need to ask experienced travelers questions to find a consensus.

A person can be a glorified Tourist and have gone to 50 countries, while another person may have only visited five countries yet has the soul of a Traveler.

Example, a person could travel to Europe and visit 25 countries and I would not be impressed.

I think in this way,
1. If a person visited El Salvador in Central America.
2. If a person visited Paraguay in South America
3. If a person visited Somalia in Africa.
4. If a person visited Liberia in West Africa.
5. If a person visited Laos in Southeast Asia.
6. If a person visited Papua New Guinea in Oceania.
7. If a person visited Yemen in the Middle East.
8. If a person visited Croatia in Europe.

When I first started to travel, I thought that just traveling a year was outstanding, now I am thinking that three years is adequate.

To do my research project I feel I need to create a questionnaire then maybe do a personal interview.

Many businesses could benefit from knowing what is really important and needed by travelers and tourist. A traveler is just a tourist who has for some reason left the beaten path.

The farther you leave the beaten path, the more I feel you have you are aware of your priorities. You will become more aware of the pros and cons of your travel bag; you will learn which languages are needed. Your global awareness becomes more acute, you have taken off the “Wonder-of-it-all-Glasses.”

The time in country, your choice of countries you visit will help you remove these glasses and see the world as it truly is, not as you hope or assumed.

I am still am trying to completely remove the “Wonder-of-it-all-Glasses.” from my face. I was watching the Traveler Channel last night, thinking to myself; these people try to staple those glasses onto the face of tourist and travelers. They perpetuate unreal isolated visions of countries that are not true.

There are political decisions made by politicians who have “Wonder-of-it-all-Glasses.” permanently installed on their face.

No to SLR Single Len Reflex Camera

No to SLR Single Len Reflex Camera
I have been in a continuous debate with myself whether I need a SLR - Single Reflex Lens Camera. So far the answer is no, I have yet to find a clear reason why a SLR Camera would capture the best cultural photos.

To take the best photos, I need to always carry the camera. How does a person walk around secretly with a rocket propelled grenade size camera?

I am going to purchase a new Camera because the Fuji Camera I have been using for the last year has annoyed one too many times. It is still good; however, I gave it away to a good friend. The camera failed to focus properly; it required too much work to achieve good quality photos.

I do not have much pride in my scenic or nature type photos; I tend to believe any nitwit can take them. I take great pride in capturing the quick draw and shoot photos of the unique identifiers of culture.

I will be walking by something, see the photo and take the picture fast, no hesitation, just pull and shoot. Speed is what I want in a camera; the best photos in my mind are achieved when a person is ready, prepared and able to take photos fast.

I dumped an Olympus Camera because it was terribly slow, now I am dumping a Fuji because it does not focus and extract light well.

I am having a debate right now between two cameras.

PowerShot SX10 IS

20X with AA Batteries, and makes videos.

Cyber-shot® Digital Camera DSC-H50

15X with Lithium proprietory battery, makes videos and I have used four other Sony cameras.

I can buy both of the above camera for about 350-400 US Dollars. Cameras have radically changed in quality, size, features and benefits in the last few years, I am getting 5 times the camera for one half the price.

In the end, I believe to truly be a photographer, I would purchase one of the cameras above for regular daily photos, and purchase a SLR camera for when I go searching for specific photos, and not just randomly enjoying the day.

Beep The Horn Dad
I was in my parents car, returning from Indianapolis where 23 USA family members became larger. I asked Dad,
“Please honk the horn twice so I feel at home.”

I have been traveling so long, that when I am in quiet place like the USA it is uncomfortably quiet, chaos is normal, the USA is abnormal.

Just an hour before I was standing in front of the Comfort Inn. While I was waiting for my 75-76 year old parents to find their way out of the Hotel. Another older couple exits the Hotel and before I can turn around they say,
“Good Morning, how are you?”

What planet am I on? This is not planet earth I know. Oh yes, I am in the USA; I am in Indiana, a true island of hospitality on planet earth.

I fumbled around with the older couple, finally coughed up and said,
“Fine, thank you, Happy Thanksgiving”

I do hope the USA citizens are thankful, because they really should thank the good Gods for being a lucky sperm to be born in the USA.

The Sunrise Brings a New World

The Sunrise Brings a New World
Another bed, another Hotel Room, I am here in Indianapolis, Indiana, waiting for the sun to rise. I have jet lag, it is 4:14 am, however my mind still believes it is Thailand where the time is 4:14 pm in the afternoon.

Today is Thanksgiving in the USA, and it is a new day on the other side of the planet.

I will spend today with the majority of my family, truly a reunion of my family and one of the great American experiences.

Thanksgiving is a wonderful corny American holiday, the part of the USA culture I wish I could wrap up and have delivered to the rest of the planet. Indiana, the state where I was born, in a small farm village, in a place where everybody says hello, where I hear please and thank you, and excuse me, it is truly a great place on planet earth.

We have a special Holiday, there is a new baby, his name is Xander and he is a Black Boy, we are a White Family. My nephew and his wife adopted a baby, he is seven months and all conversations revolve around Xander. This is a good thing, my mother said,
“Xander can always say, he was born in the same year that Obama became the first Black President.”

The sun will rise soon, there will be a new day, all old memories will fade, and today will be replaced by new ones, there will be simplicity restored to the day. I try to enjoy my life, however for a traveler, this is not about traveling to paradise, and it is know I can take paradise with me as my constant travel companion.

Travel Readers Want Packing Video

Travel Readers Want Packing Video
I am baffled and truly do not understand this desire, I wish I could empathize with the many readers who want to know how to pack.

My friends and readers have written me in the last couple of months wanting to know how to pack. I am more than happy to make the videos, however I have yet to figure out how to make this video alone without including my whole body and face in the video.

I will somehow find a way, I think maybe I need a mask, maybe I can find a rubber; pull over the head mask of some funny person, or maybe a mask with a hat.

It would take days if not months to train an actor or actress to pack a travel bag; this is not a feasible option.

It is possible I am not baffled on why readers want this type of video; maybe I am just overwhelmed at the magnitude of this production. If I try to explain clearly, how to pack, I would need many videos.

Off the top of my head, these videos need.

1. What size of Travel Bag.
2. How much weight can you carry versus how much weight do you want to carry.
3. How to buy a Travel Bag.
4. The problems of Travel Bags.
5. Security Systems of Travel Bags.
6. Collecting all your clothing and gear to pack.
7. What breaks in a Traveler Pack?
Etc to at least 20-30 items.

I am going to stop here, I am sure I can add another 10-20 videos to this list. Packing is a dynamic experience, every aspect is a variable, if one of the variables changes, it then alters the ability of others. If the size of the backpack is too small, you will not be able to pack, however if you are not strong enough to lift the pack, then you have do what you are not going to carry.

There is no way to make this simple.

I know some of you are being patient, I am sorry; I will try to focus on this project and start collecting the video clips to assemble. I am guessing, however I will need about 2-3 hours of small clips to tell this story.

This is a story of Volume and Weight, how many liters of volume are you trying to pack, and how much does this weigh? Then are you physically strong enough to carry what you want to carry.

Hehehe, I am thinking, I could put on Seminars are how to buy a Travel Bag and then how to pack it.

2008 November 26 Enter USA

2008 November 26 Enter USA
I left from the Suvarnabhumi Airport, Bangkok, Thailand on November 26, at 01:35 am with Korean Air Lines KE 654 in partners with Delta Airline Flight number 7918.

I arrived in Indianapolis, Indiana USA at 1:55 pm, 13:55 hours.

It too funny, there are many reports the airport was close, all flights were cancelled and I personally flew out about 5 hours after the all flights were cancelled.

Who is lying?

The airport is lying.
The press is lying.
The people of Thailand are lying.

If have learned one thing in the last 10 years of perpetual travel, never believe anything coming from the Journalist of the Planet. I have become jaded, growing up in the State of Indiana in a small town, and I have learned the outside world will lie with no remorse for the smallest of reasons and sadly nobody cares.

The worst part is somehow the press is considered reputable and trustworthy; they are not to be trusted under any condition.

A friend of mine gave me advice when I was 20 years old,
“Never trust anyone who can make money by giving you bad advice.”
(Benefits are often many layers away...)

On the stupid Airport and Thailand situation, if you truly analyze this almost all parties to the problems benefited from lying. Reality is different; however, in this world reality has little value to the mass of humans.

An honest politician, and honest person can say the truth, and the world will not believe it because the press reported different. I trust politicians more than the press.
