Tourist Caused Panic Attack

Tourist Caused Panic Attack
I went into a restaurant called the Riverside here in Chang Mai the other night with my friend Travis. I suddenly had a panicky feeling, started to get weak, I felt disorientated and angry.

There were too many tourists in one location.

I wish I were joking, I wish this were not a true experience. I will have to do some deep soul searching and introspection to try to understand how I feel about this situation.

Luckily we left the main Riverside Restaurant and went across the street to different version whereby we sat outside on the deck and I was comfortable.

As best can get in touch with my feelings, there is something about the situation that is opposite of why I travel, or maybe something I wish to escape.

We leave at 7:00 am and are scheduled to be back in Chang Mai by 6:00 pm, I guess the whole trip round trip is 11 hours. When a person leaves Thailand and returns they get another 30 days permission to live in Thailand.

I am leaving on November 26, 2008 and flying to the USA, then 11 days later I fly to Guatemala.

Turn Off the Air Conditioner When You Leave

Turn Off the Air Conditioner When You Leave
Here is a question for readers.

Should I shut off the Air Conditioner when I leave a Hotel Room?

I take great MacGyver pride in figuring out systems to stop this Hotel Electricity system from achieving its goal.

GOAL
The goal of this device is to shut off all the electricity in the room and save on electrical cost for the Hotel when the resident is not in the room.

I have zero desire to return to a room that it very comfortable when air conditioned and extremely stuffy when not. Yes, I could open all the windows before I leave, and close them when I return, but as I see it, Air Conditioning is a Luxury. If I am going to pay for the luxury of Air Conditioning, I am not going to live in a room that is hot until the air conditioner is running for an hour, then it take another four hours before the furniture is cooled off. Then next thing I know, the room is too cold and I have to adjust the AC a dozen time until it is balance. If I just leave it running, I can balance it one time and never worry again.

I ask my friend Travis,
“If you paid 500 Dollars per night for a Hotel, would you leave the air conditioner on?”

He said,
“Yes, because I am paying 500 Dollars.”

Map to Expatriates in Chang Mai

Map to Expatriates in Chang Mai
I happened upon an Expatriate center here in Chang Mai, I have to say the neighborhood is great, truly a good places to live.

It is the Southeast “Inner” corner of the moat in the area called Moon Muang and seems to go from about Soi 1 - 9. I am on Soi 2, so I know I am in a good solid Guesthouse area and many good places to stay, a great environment.

I have been laughing, this area is a mix of the boom boom bars of Sukumvit in Bangkok, and the younger lost in space group from Khao San Road. The two cultural groups in one place create a good balance between old fat men and young backpack girls.

The cost of living seems cheaper, and the noise level is about five levels lower than Bangkok, so more comfortable.

The first time I was in Chang Mail a few years ago, I was in dull location and life rather sucked. This area has given a new perspective of Chang Mai and I can see now why many expatriates call this home.

Chang Mai Bus Trip

Chang Mai Bus Trip
I paid 550 Baht for an overnight Thailand bus from Bangkok to Chang Mai, I suppose the trip took about 12 hours porthole to porthole, with a 100 Baht Taxi on each end. A nice Air Con Bus and a snack and bottle of water was included.

Therefore, for about 850 Baht, I am now in Chang Mai.

Plane versus Bus?

My theory is when the trip is more than six hours is when to think about a Plane, or at least give it a consideration. The bus system is so efficient in Thailand I cannot be bothered with all the crap involved with a Low Cost Carriers.

The weight limits on the cheap flights are too low for a trip inside of Thailand, I think I will always take buses, as there is no realized benefits for the planes. I have to make to many sacrifices, to save myself six hours of on my butt time.

As best I understand today about Hyperinflation, it becomes highly possible to happen when the government of a nation spends enough money in one year to equal one-third of the gross national products of the country.

Why Air Conditioning in Hotels is Unhealthy

Why Air Conditioning in Hotels is Unhealthy
In 1906, Willis Haviland Carrier was granted a patent for the first “Apparatus for Treating Air

After the Window Air Conditioner came into use “sales escalating from 74,000 in 1948 to 1,045,000 in 1953

What has not been invented, and truly is needed, is a way for housekeeping people in Hotels to clean the air conditioner units daily between guest. I am positive I am inhaling, smoke, dust, mite and other virus and bacterium of a world full of Hotel guest.

Why is air conditioning in Hotels unhealthy?
1. There is no way to easily clean the air conditioners, they are on the ceiling.

2. The management does not clean...
When was the last time you saw the maid cleaning the air conditioner?
-- Gong, never!

This is the window air conditioner; I believe this to be the best option for air conditioning in a large hotel room, in small one very noisy. The staff has the ability to clean the filter when in a window. This one has obviously not been clean in years. A window air conditioner brings air from the outside and continually replaces old stagnant are with free air. If the hotel was inclined, it is possible to remove the filters, or even remove the complete unit to clean.

This is maybe a second-generation air conditioning unit, what came after the window air conditioner. This type of unit when you see inside a hotel is normally not maintained, cleaned or supervised property by the hotel and is full of unhealthy problems.

This is the newest model on the market used in Hotel rooms, normally means the unit is newer and has had less time to collect an unhealthy layer or grime. However, it is only recycling air that is in the room, there is no fresh air entering the room.

SCARY COMMENTS ON WIKI ABOUT AIR CONDITIONING

“A poorly maintained air-conditioning system can occasionally promote the growth and spread of microorganisms, such as Legionella pneumophila, the infectious agent responsible for Legionnaires' disease, or thermophilic actinomycetes,[10] but as long as the air conditioner is kept clean these health hazards can be avoided. Conversely, air conditioning, including filtration, humidification, cooling, disinfection, etc., can be used to provide a clean, safe, hypoallergenic atmosphere in hospital operating rooms and other environments where an appropriate atmosphere is critical to patient safety and well-being. Air conditioning can have a positive effect on sufferers of allergies and asthma.

Poorly operating air conditioning systems can generate sound levels that contribute to hearing loss, if exposures are endured over a long term. These levels are similar to the exposure of living near a busy highway or airport for a considerable length of time. Properly functioning air conditioners are much quieter.

In many people, the air flow (draught) caused by an otherwise clean air conditioning system of a car may cause acute sinusitis”
WikiPedia.org

What is the solution, in my opinion, the least cleaned object in a room is the air conditioning unit. The only possible solution is to look for newer Hotels; the majority of Hotels over 2-3 years is going to have air conditioner problems.

Therefore, you best option is a fan for healthy living, I carry both a slotted and Phillips screwdriver, I will often clean the blade of fans so they do not slowly blow crap into my lungs. I often place the fan in the window to either suck air in, or blow the air out, therefore creating good replacement of old air with fresh air.

Ask yourself next time you enter a Hotel room,
“Where does the fresh air enter?”

Here is a fan I purchased in West Africa, I would hang in the window and allow to run continuously, it was very quiet. I the main use of this was to blow the humid air out of the room to make the room dry.

I am one of the most blunt, honest, transparent persons on the internet; I truly have no agenda other than to blab away about ideas.

What is the secret?

Well, I have developed this great system to put links at the bottom of my Blog post as reference information. For the last couple of months I have been doing this quite regularly, and I am getting faster, more accurate and better weekly.

How do I do this? That is my secret.

It is not my nature to have any secrets, I am an open book, and in a way, my life is dependent upon it, as I am a recovering alcoholic with over 20 years of sobriety.
