Ranong Hot Springs Rain Forest

Ranong Hot Springs Rain Forest
Ranong, Thailand on the border of Thailand and Burma has Hot Springs. There is rain forest near Coca Ecuador I visited; there are many places on the planet they call rain forest. I think there is a close variation of a rain forest next to the river and this Hot Springs Park in Ranong Thailand.

A Gazebo surrounded by river with footbridges at Ranong Hot Springs.

I was walking back from the Hot Springs here in Ranong, Thailand and talking with a Thailand girl who has been my good friend for three years. I said, this would be an interesting place to have trekking paths, the Farang love to trek. (Maybe there is, and I did not see.) I said this jungle to the right looks a lot like Koh Tarotao in the South of Thailand. As I was talking about trekking, and a desire to walk through hot forest, a desire I do not have, I thought to myself. This forest or jungle is not normal.

This forest is too dense, too much vegetation. When you see a full on rainforest like the ones near Coca Ecuador the air is wet, the trees are wet, it is like living in a steam bath. It rains so much you assume it going to rain, and the world is green, very green, no way to stop the growth, and hard to grow food as the weeds or vegetation reclaims too quickly any claim made.

This area is a small steam bath forested area, it is hot and humid, however only one part of the city.

To see a real rainforest can be a lot of work, I am not sure; this may be what I am calling a mist forest. When a waterfalls drops from high points on a mountain, the falling water creates a mist. This mist is similar to a rainforest, it makes everything grow.

Well, there is some interesting ecological happening here along the river, all the trees, and the vegetation is growing wildly. Now, I believe it is now the rainy season, however I think the combination of being a river, hot waters, and just few miles from the ocean has created a special type of eco-system. This seems to simulate a rainforest without all the problems of visiting a real rain forest.

Note, maps, explanations will give wildly large areas of land the definition of being a rain forest. I am not a person who formally studies rainforest; however, I have been in them too many times. A rainforest is recognized in my opinion when the vegetation is growing so fast, it is hard to farm, or stop. You can log a rainforest, but hard to stop the re-growth of almost the equal amount of green. Water, warm temperatures, living a cloud, and green things, say wow, thank you.

Area where people can sit and place their feet in the hot waters.

This woman is panning some black rock or something I have not been able to be translated into English yet, I took a nice video and will put up the panning process when I return to Bangkok.

If you were in Ranong and wanted to see this area of the planet, I think you could print this photo, show to a taxi driver, and expedite your trip there. At the hot springs are many restaurants, a spa, a big Wat and other walk around and have a day trip things to do. There is a hotel up by the road that is also a spa the in the past allowed non-residents to use.

Not many places on the planet, you can take a taxi and go visit what is similar to a rain forest.

The Usual Suspects on Khao Sarn Road

The Usual Suspects on Khao Sarn Road
With my new 18X Zoom Fuji camera, my eyes wide open; I can spy on the world and take photos of the Usual Suspects of nefarious characters in the Khao San Road area. Behind the unsuspecting vender on the bike, in the sunglasses is a special character that haunts Khao San Road.

Who is this man in the sunglasses and why does he decorate his tri-cycle bike this way. He is a regular, part of background, easy to ignore, or easy to accept, one of the Usual Suspects.

I suspect he is normal for Khao San Road, and the truth is I am abnormal in a place where normal is abnormal. I never would want to focus on the normal when I know I am the abnormal in an abnormal world, better with a zoom camera.

A post for the insiders, who know the road, on the road, who have been to the road. A place where people get the rush of being different, on the outside world, before the return to the world.

Purchased Fuji 18X Finepix 12,800 Baht
Jumped from the Sony to the Fuji today, nervous decision, but the four AA Battery and a very quick time to take photos demonstration make the decision.

18,500 Baht for the silver Sony 15X with 2 Batteries or 12,800 Bat for the 18X Fuji with four AA rechargeable and one gig Sandisk chip and camera bag. I really needed to pay maybe more Baht and get three batteries and another charger to feel safe with Sony that in Africa I would have what I need to be redundant backed up.

Purchased at Panthip Computer mall about 100 Baht by Taxi from Khao San Road one way, and if lucky 60.

I now have another say 6000 Baht left over to buy a second small camera to with probably a 3X optical for my pocket as an extra camera backup when the Fuji breaks. The only dependable situation is two cameras and one small; I will also have the 3 what? Cell phone to backup as the third camera, to not have a camera this year will mean, someone robbed me of everything. I have never had a camera, cell or computer robbed in 10 years of travel, only one passport and 60 US dollars in two small thefts.

I have lost many items or forgot. Breaking is a bigger worry, and I am careful, but he pigs walking in front of motorcycle just are not predictable… Taxi driver throwing bags or bus drivers are a huge danger, nobody get to every carry the camera, computer bag for any reason, I am never that tired.

I have a flexible tri-pod that will help with the 18X wiggle while I am making an 18X long distance video of a the opposite sex doing a a wiggle. More photos and videos of the natives and crazy on demand foreigners coming up, you are welcome. I love a new gadget, a new toy.

For what is it worth to know, I spend about 700 dollars per year on camera and about 1000 dollars every two years on a computer. I have never used a warranty on a camera and every time used the warranty on the computer. A person need to coordinate the camera, the computer, the batteries and chargers at the same time, throw in a about 2 one gig thumb drives for the computer and never use a CD rom to back up photos, do it to the net, or on a thumb.

Hobos Work and Travel

Hobos Work and Travel
- The past 25 years have seen the most dramatic reduction in extreme poverty that the world has ever experienced. -
Quote from the United Nations

A Hobo is a person that travels to work.
A tramp is a person that travels and won't work.
A bum is a person that will neither travel or work.

I need a job, I need money, my family is starving, I will do anything, give me a job. I am hungry, I am a man.

Freedom from want, a lofty idealistic, no meat on the table goals.

I am not a beggar, you can take away anything I have, my bags, my freedom, my home, you can take it all by hook, crook, extortion or the police can just take me. However, I am 100 percent positive.
“I must give you my pride.”

I have suffered the shame of poverty, not a fun thing to say, but I remember my parents bringing me chicken every week. They would drop off chicken at my home. I would cook it during the week. I was on house arrest after my fourth DWI, I was a miserable person.

I would think about some Bob Dylan,
“When you got nothing, you got nothing to lose.” ~ Bob Dylan

I had to say some Johnny Cougar quote,
“Nothing matters and what if it did.”

I truly think that thought saved my life, it told me, nothing is so important that you need to off yourself. When people kill themselves it is not because they need a reason, then need a reason to not do it, so if it does not matter, there is no reason. Dylans idea was not a help, when you got nothing, you go nothing to lose…

I suppose the little bum Hobo has a special place in my brain; it is reserved as a way to remember, to be grateful. Too many years and we have a built in forgetter, we forget our path, we forget, I did this, I did that, and I am responsible. I was that person, I am, I are that person.

Take away the fun crap, and a Hobo is a man without a job. Then a man with pride who wants a job. So, they run out the door, and run down the road, they put their thumb, they jump a train, and they buy a cheap ticket on a bus to where they hope is work. The go and find there is no work, but there was a job, stand in this lot, some truck will come and pick you up, and dump you out, you will make a few dollars. You will earn enough to eat today.

Mothers have a special pain; they need to feed their children while the man is out drinking. It is the way of the world. I was a very fortunate son, my father never drank. I think there is some story about rolling a truck after a baseball game.

I was born under a lucky star, and gamble the luck away for about 28 years, then the star looked down on me and said, it is up to you, nobody is going to save you. I gave you luck, and you keep refusing the gift, what do I have do, just accept, the wolrd is good, the life is good and you just have to be a good boy.

One day after another, one day at a time, I am a good boy, and what do you know luck looks down and gives me unlimited happiness and the right to complain. Because when you have enough, you complain, because it becomes a hobby, the more I had, the more I complained. Now I am very good at it, and think, wow, what a waste of energy.

To run to a place where you hope. To run to a place where you think, you your heard was a job.

Ok, so I have played around for years. The basic theme of HoboTraveler.com is not to be a tourist; it is somehow to find a job to continue to travel. We that travel already know we love to travel, we are also tourist, but there is something magical about the road. It is an addiction.

I am doing well, I have enough, more than I need, more than I want, and more than a few people look at me with respect, when someone looks at you without respect, no amount of pride can stop the feelings.

So back to the issue, how to help the other Hobos to travel the earth, look for jobs. I have been in a dilemma the last few days as two and two came together and I was trying to work on my project. I have many projects and hope I bore everyone, this is my life, and hope you see, a good project keeps a person out of trouble, that idle hands thing. The long-term travelers need to go home, they become nuts, drink, drug, they just do not know how to be free, they need a job to tell them what to do, I think they need a project, and for sure I do not want to hear them save the world, quote this and complain, I want them to work on a solution to what they perceive as problem, or well, do something so they shut up and stop talking about being a vegetarian, not a very macho thing to do, and at the end of the day, I am an Indiana Farm boy, hard to listen to the noise.

The problem with jobs.

A person in Thailand may make at Joe Blow about 5-10 USA per day, 80 percent of the planet, the guy that digs the holes makes less than 10 dollars per day. Then we have the halves who make 20 times that and say they are poor, as they go to the mall.

In the end, everyone wants money, and truthfully, I cannot honestly say I saw a person I thought could die from hunger. I just have not seen it, I have seen skin diseases, I have seen what cars do, and I have seen beggars with no legs from a car. I just do not see much hunger, I do see want.

In the end, we need to distribute the wealth. I think some of the people should work less and allow some others to get a job, or think; I can make some jobs… I suppose I respect Bill Gates, here is a person that has made many jobs on the planet, and feeds a ton of people.

Making jobs is to me a noble thing to do; it is a great and prideful way to give a Hobo a job. This Hobo needs a job Joe; let him clean the back 40 of weeds. The farmer knows the man is beat up, probably cannot handle the heat, but better to give him work, then to just give him money, do not give, it will buy his pride, give him work, where there was none that was needed to be done.

I really despise people that give people money; I think they like to make fun of people. I will give money to a person, but it has to be me and them, and the wall, I do not think I should tell the wall. It is not to be trusted. Give in secret, one on one, and say, pay me back when you have it, this is a loan. Or give it back to someone down the line, someone who needs it, but I want it back, and you are obligated to give it to someone less than you, or back. I will not buy your pride.

Ok 50 cent per business card. I have this horribly complicated project, how do I collect all the Hotels names and addresses on the planet. I am getting close to having a CP… a Control Panel whereby a person could say.
- Andy, I know a hotel that I like, can I recommend it? -
- Yes, Margaret, go here and post it, I am sorry, you must also take a digital camera, photograph the business card of the hotel, and post is with the listing, we need some backup proof it is really a hotel.-

You don't trust me I think... No, I need a business card.

I keep wanting to say to some travelers, you can do this, but the truth is 50 cents per card is probably too cheap for a halve on the planet. The can go back to McDonalds and make money a lot easier and faster. I on the other hand cannot afford to pay more than 50 cents per proven hotel, and I am not good at getting help for nothing. People do not feel sorry for me, and do not just help me. Some help in other ways, but the average Joe thinks I am a jerk, and this is ok.

50 cents is one-half the daily wages of many people on the planet, so this is a windfall proposition for some people in say, Uganda or Nepal, or Haiti or any place where earning 50 cents 10 times in day would be a job.

I guess I am thinking, I am dwelling, how to somehow induce people to collect Hotels, or Guesthouses, I really do not have a proper word. I am thinking Tourist Rooms is best. To collect business cards of Tourist Rooms and add to the site. We are also collecting list form Tourist Offices, but this normally only helps the Hotels that do not need helps, and the rough, cheap ones are not there. You know the Hobo priced ones.

I want them all, this is the problem, the Five Star ones are too easy, the 2 dollar minus one star ones are a big problem.

Oh well, any suggestions are welcome, I have an online job application. It has been there for about two years, and two years ago, we started to tap into the world’s job market. I knew two years ago I wanted to collect business cards of hotel. I also knew and accepted, it would not just be me, I needed to tap into the world, and I need to find people in all 252-310 countries of the planet. (I really wish that were a definite number).

Jobs for people who need five dollars per day

Funny, I lived in Thailand on five dollar per day for about one year, and still find cannot help but look for he cheap room, it is what I are.

Ranong Thailand Visa Run

Ranong Thailand Visa Run
I will do a Visa Run tonight to Ranong, Thailand on the Burma border, I suppose I should say Myanmar, I just feel bad because the locals more or less call it Burma, so why would I call it something different.
I will enter Burma, then leave Burma and enter Thailand. This is called a Visa Run, some strange ritual travelers do.

When a person steps back and says out loud.
- I am going to walk across the border, the walk back. -
- I am will leave for 15 minutes, the come right back to Thailand. -

I do this for most countries of the planet; I will travel for 10 hours and leave a country before I will deal with the bureaucracy of the country. I will do about anything to not have to sit in a government office and wait for the Gods that be decide my fate.

To do you first Visa Run or to renew a Visa is a sense of pride, in your mind you say,
- I have lived outside my country. -

A Visa run is a sure sign of a person that is on the road to being a traveler, or an Expat. I do hope that one day the world invents a better system or maybe we will just globalize and say, everyone can go to any country and live. I like this idea more and more, I tend to believe the Mexicans in the USA would go home after earning money, as this is all they want, and some rich girlfriends in Mexico City would come and stay a few months. Or all of Mexico would move to the USA, which is a real possibility.

If I were to live in Thailand, I would say that Ranong is on the short list of places I would choose to live. The Visa is easy, there are two or more islands one is called Koh Chang and the other is Koh Phayam, I think. I have been to Koh Chang I think three times, it is easy, quick and a nice peaceful island full of Germans and other travelers who do not seem to need bars. I do not know Koh Pha Yam or whatever the name is, but I think there is more Tourists.

The call this place, Koh Samui before… before it became a Tourist Trap. Tells you something about Koh Samui, all Islands or Tourist areas are on a timeline, too much time passes and kiss the tourist destination goodbye. A good tourist area has an obvious reason to Visit, like the Pyramids of Egypt.

I will get on a bus at night, and wake up there the next morning. I do not do drugs, but this type of bus trip is getting old for me. It makes sleeping pills and other downers seem tempting. Sleeping on a bus is not natural either, I am happy to not be taking the Tourist Buses from Khao San Road. The local or long distance Thailand ran buses are more comfortable than the tourist buses, the seats are wider, the people that run the buses are human, and they often have food served.
Craig from Travelvice.com gave a good outline of the hotels in Ranong; however seemed to miss a couple. I am going to try to check out either the Spring Guesthouse. Ranong Hotels (Kiwi Orchard is on the Ranong Thailand page of Wiki and need to get the boot.)

Note, I hope this page revealed to Craig, you cannot quickly collect all the hotels in a city, you need to live there. Ergo the reason I created HoboHideOut.com it allows a never ending list of hotels. And soon people will be able to list hotels, then data entry people, one way or the other we are pointed towards a comprehensive list.

Ranong has Hot Water Springs; a person should if nothing else goes towards the Spring Guesthouse and watch the people if they still do it, collect water that has been purified by heat.

The island of Koh Chang has a special Agro-Tourism area with Cashews and Rubber trees, a special Island on the planet, and empty of tourist and most tourists seem to fall into bars that are just like the ones from their home. (Koh means Island, so I am being redundant, but you know why.)

Counting Coup on Cars

Counting Coup on Cars
I realized I have developed a strange habit. I do not trust cars, buses, taxis or any vehicle. I see them as extreme danger. I find I touch them, do a small knock on their back fenders or side.

I just took my knuckle and tapped on the back of a Thailand Taxi, as he was accelerating over the Zebra. He never stopped, cut about 10 inches from my feet, and this is normal in 80 percent or more of the planet countries. I find I do one of two things, I often touch, then tap. And if I have something in my hand, I am carrying trash as normal in the world before I go my 50 meters or so and just drop it, well, there are many trucks in places like Africa so I just drop the trash in the back of the truck better than the ground. hehehe

If the enemy is close enough to touch, I touch, count coup and see if they even notice. Note, the enemy does not like this… a person that endangers me… a car close enough to touch with no effort should never be moving.

The Rebel or Revel Traveler

The Rebel or Revel Traveler
I listen generally by accident to two main categories of travelers; the one is being rebellious and tells me everything wrong about their topic of the day. Then, there is the person who is rarer, however is reveling about how great something is, although possible they are reveling about a crazy tattoo they just got.

People love a Rebel; I enjoy and admire a person who fights the good fight against real Dragons. I am annoyed when any person has more than about three major causes. I try to inspect is there any action or just them talking.

I think of my writing, I try to remember, what do I revel in, what is my passions, this is me, this is what makes me happy. If I can remember to stay in the passions of my life, what I revel in, I will not sit around complaining and being rebellious.

The need to rebellion on the planet is minimal; a peaceful democracy is spreading all over the planet. Now we have these made-for-TV causes, meant to raise donations to make NGO fat cats rich.

I want to hear people say, I have some hobby project, saving the world is a personal problem and only if I was God would I be qualified, and I know I am not God.

I will make an introspective marker, I will remember the next time my passion is raised, am I reveling or some personal problem rebel that come to the forefront.

I do forgive people under 25, then do not know who they are and are explorers.

I am positive words can hurt people, and if they can hurt people, good word can save people.

I am a very lucky man. When I think about the good words that saved my life as made me very angry, some people reach in my soul and rearange the shelves with words, making me a better person. I am grateful to the people in my life who use words to make me one person, not a confused mess of many, today I am just me.
