This is the best place to find cheap books near Khao San Road in Bangkok, Thailand. It is inside the Wat and to the very back of the Wat, or Buddhist Temple. I suppose if you walked out the Police Station, entered the Wat and followed the maze you would finally find these books.

Used books on Khao San Road or around Khao San Road are Idiot Tourist Expensive. Now they have even made the tourist fall for more Thai tricks, to prove just how stupid the tourist are, and travelers.

I have looked, I keep trying, I want to take a photograph of this, however, before I forget, I need to blurt this out. The Thailand book vendors are sanding off the edges off the tops, bottom and side of books. A book looks old when the cover had wrinkles, or the paper on the ends is discolored, then in worst case, when the binding is bad, the pages fall out. The solution in Thailand is they sand off the discolored paper, and then wrap the book in plastic. Not allowing you to open the book, or see if the pages are intact, or the condition of the book, maybe the last chapter is missing out of the book, or the prior reader underlined the whole book with yellow marker.

I now do not buy books in plastic, I know the price is too high; they want to gouge me and sell me a pig in a poke.

This is an example of used books in plastic, sort of like buying a used car and not taking it for a test drive. I would at least unwrap it before I paid for it, and inspect it.

For the too lazy and too rich, not on a budget bunch, do not mind me calling them or inferring they are stupid, then here is a two great places to buy,
- Idiot Tourist Expensive Used Book and New. -
I go to these bookstores often...

Go to Khao San Road, go to the end with the Burger King and look to your left. When I really need a book, or I want to buy a guidebook for West Africa or Ethiopia or anywhere the normal Tourist Backpacker does not go, you know about 80 percent of the planet, I go to this new bookstore and it is well stocked. The used bookstore to the right has a good supply also of used books, however expensive.

I trade or throw away books; I do not have the luxury of keeping a book.

Paul Theroux is not a Misanthropist

Paul Theroux is not a Misanthropist
A misanthropist is a person who dislikes or distrusts humanity as a general rule

I do not think Paul Theroux is a misanthropist.

Paul Theroux is maybe not a travel writer, I think there is a huge difference between a Travel Writer and a person that writes Travelogues.

I would say he writes travelogues, and I do not wish to insult him by calling him a travel writer. I do think he know the shadow a little too well, and should not be allow to play with sharp objects or left alone too much.

I was introduced to the word Misanthropist as I was reading a book review about this man on the internet, and the word stuck, I cannot remember how to spell and continually need to look it up in the dictionary, however I do not think I am a misanthropist.

The person called Paul Theroux a misanthropist in the book review. Maybe best to say he is grumpy, I can be very grumpy, but I also will open the door.

Misanthropist like to travel, they want complete control over who enters their world. I enjoy this aspect of travel, it is a very simple process to remove a person from my life forever. I also know it is very easy for people to remove me from their life forever.

I think misanthropist avoid people, they love caller ID on the telephone, do not answer the door, hate spam, etc, sort of control freaks. The get very angry at wrong number telephone calls or at spam, hard to work up anger for a spammer, like throwing rocks at the wind.

I think an open door policy in life is great, open the door, then I needed to learn how to enforce a three strikes and your out policy, and do not look back. I remember a time, in my fit of no-sharp-objects close, or do not go to the fourth floor because you like to look out the window time. Well, I remember that happiness is earned not by avoiding people, however by stopping the misery, or closing the door on the sadness. I must open the door to be happy, however somehow push out the bad. I do not say to myself, this will not happen again, I say this person, this specific person will not happen again, hard to generalize and politically correct speech is for idiots, I think they call this segregation in the mental hospital.

Being happy is easy, when you learn to say no, but not avoid, keep the door open.

Sometimes people close the door to all things, they put on filters, have everything going to the bulk box and never thought, I also filtered out my friends and my happiness. I can almost tell you, almost guarantee, if I hear one of my friends say to me, I am too busy, they are on the short list of friends to get rid of, what is the point. They cry wolf so many times there is no reason to make contact, it annoying to continue.

Paul Theroux gives to the world with no good reasons, take him or leave him, he is honest, frank, and depressing at times. I for sure would not want to read his books every day.

I think his writing bridges on depression and suicide, however I trust what he writes is true, therefore I continue to read. I trust James Michener, I do not feel like he is trying to mislead me, I so often ask people, do you trust this person. The do a pause, I say ok, why go on, when I hear the pause, I know the answer.

So, I would say Paul Theroux seems to open doors, not close them, a misanthropist does not open doors, they close them. I think Paul opens doors, and walk through doors, or allow me to enter, I continue to believe an un-locked door is best. A locked door keeps the nature in or out, and sometimes the nature needs to be shoved out so the good nature can enter.

Misanthropy is a general dislike, distrust, or hatred of the human species, or a disposition to dislike and/or distrust other people. The term is also applicable to those who self-exile themselves or become loners because of the aforementioned feelings. … A misanthrope or misanthropist is a person who dislikes or distrusts humanity as a general rule.

Anticipation or prognostication of what will happen has kept my butt out of danger for about 10-11 years. I was reading the book Smile While You are Lying and thought, this guy has only gone to some 33 countries and I have done 77, and he got robbed more than me.

Everyone I know loses bundles more than me, gets robbed often, and get in real dangerous situations. I really need some danger to write stupid stories, the more stupid, the more people think you are adventurous, but never realize, the smart ones never were in danger.

I believe they listened to the trendy peoples advice, what the majority does could get you in a resort, or beheaded an Indonesia resort.

Trendy people follow the crowd, all of us want to think we are not trendy; I am very trendy on some things.

I just think to understand if everyone has a tattoo that is not trendy or fashionable, if the majority is doing something.

Ooops, you screwed up.

I think want people want to do is be Trendsetters instead of Trend followers. Quick push the sheep into the gate, and close it, do not let them out.

I do Not Like Your Home

I do Not Like Your Home
To complain about a Hotel is the tantamount to saying to the owner or manager,
- I do not like your home. -

To complain more than two times is almost saying,
- You are not doing your job. -

I normally do not complain more than two times, I move out, vote with my feet, for me to complain over two times is silly. I know,
- I can change my pants, I cannot change people. -

However, moving is not always needed or wanted, there are often great reasons to stay in a hotel other than problems.

Maintenances problems in Hotels are normally solved immediately, usually within the next hour, sometimes during the next day, if not, then normally they are forgotten and never fixed. I have very little faith in the ability of owners or managers to solve problems. They more or less seem to hope the person moves out and they can pass the problem on, or just forget.

The best solution is to move rooms until you find a room that works, then never recommend the hotel and always request the good room. I was explaining this in Manila

Alternatively, here is a whole bunch of post on how to choose a room. When choosing a room, when you finally like a hotel, then what happens is you should, must, you are crazy not to become friends with a the managers, staff, receptionist and maintenance people.
Normally I fix all the maintenance problems in a room, because I have better maintenance skills than the staff, owner, manager or anybody in the hotel. Many time the mainenance person is competant and the reception person is not or manager, or somebody.

However, there are some problems that get out of control, I presently have told the manager, staff, talked, browbeat, etc about the room I am in now. I moved to another room, which is better in a way, however only a single bed, this room has has a double.
( I asked specifically about the thermostat here, and they said it was fixed, I think she really believes it was.)

The Thermostat in the room does not work, the air conditioner works excellent, I mean it is perfect, and it works so good I am living in a refrigerator. The normal problem is the air conditioner needs re-chargeded with Freon or other new gases, so in those types of rooms I move out, often about 80 percent of time the window air conditioners is too loud to tolerate. This room AC is great, just need to replace the thermostat or wake up in the night freezing.

I have a great air conditioner and the thermostat doe not work. I now have the window opens as wide as possible, have the air conditioner down as lost as possible and it is semi-ok, but still I need another blanket to stay warm at night and not wake up freezing.

I guess that is the solution, I will steal large towel that is a blanket, ore maybe two. This is funny; I will seize one from the hallway.

The next alternative is for me to change the thermostat myself, this is not a complicated task. I was talking conspiring with my Thai girl, she said,
- I will distract, we open an empty room, take the thermostat off and change.-
I said,
- I have tested all those rooms, the other thermostats do not work there or other huge problems.
What about that room.
- Bugs -

I can take the faceplate off and see if I can purchase the exact same thermostat, change it out and I am in business.

I remember in the Friendly Guesthouse in Manila, I purchased cleaning supplies and cleaned the common toilet, mold was growing on the curtains, I was trying to buy a curtain. The management just never cleaned. As best I can tell the place has turned completely too G-friendly and no longer for normal men, so not a good place for me.

I do not mind paying, working or cleaning up my home, I do not like to tell the managers they are not up to snuff. I have not found any hotel under say 100 dollars per night that was up snuff on maintenance, and the majority is dumps. Better to change hotels or do it myself, laughing at Craig in Peru, he was making a screen to put on the window of the house in Peru. I wrote, careful you are telling the family they do not live up to snuff.

The cost of me doing maintenance is nothing compared to what it cost to move to a 100 dollar per night hotel.

I am not sure, I think in this hotel there are maybe 3 rooms that will work, I need to make a list of the acceptable room numbers in Hotels and file away.

211 in Stone House in Manila, Philippines
223 in Yasmin Apartelle in Manila, Philippines
4 in Relais de Plateau in Atakpame, Togo

I really need to make this list, as the hotels just never learn; I would rather have three maintenance people and painter. I have yet to move out for a cleaning person, but maintenance is a regular reason…

I find it hard to recommend hotels, I am now recommending managers and room numbers. I have no way to recommend all the rooms of a hotel, this would be like saying, go live in the room with the bugs and air conditioning problems. I suppose I can recommend the really 2 dollar rooms and normally nobody complains, they got what they paid for.

I was telling a friend, I do not care if YouTube.com or its viewers watch many of the videos I make, however I hope someday a University Professor becomes excited to know, somebody took a ten-minute video of the drinking water in Burkina Faso.

Today I found a photo of mine on a serious looking PDF report about the Tsunami. I do not remember this company, however I do not care, glad they went to good use, and maybe they will help in a small way. More or less I recommend a person take photographs and do the right thing, take photos that you feel are needed, helpful, and report what the world is all about, or as I say to myself,
“So this is how the world works.”

Getting your Book Published is Easy

Getting your Book Published is Easy
A person does not need to get accepted by a publisher now to write a book. There are POD Books, nowadays you pay between 500 and 2000 and you have a book.

I just feel a need to say this, I researched this for months a few years and in the last few weeks people keep talking about writing books.

Not easy to write one, but the publishing part is getting easy. If you are good on a computer and can type the book, you probably can work through the process. As best I can estimate, a person can publish their own book, and can get listed in Amazon.com and sold all the other book.

More or less you write the book and with the new world of computers, a computer file is made, and this big machine can take the file, and print it out as one book. POD Print on Demand

The big publishers wait until you boom the book, and when you are big enough, they may sign you up… More or less, when you prove the book will sell, then they will help.

More or less I think they wait until you are famous already before the bet on you, I have never written a book, however if and when I do, I think I will just pay about 1000 dollars and publish it.
