Buying a coconut is easy in the Tropics, a cheap source of food and protein, however how does one go about cracking and eating a coconut, sometime this is difficult nut to crack.

Buy a coconut; hopefully they give you a plastic bag.

Place the coconut in one to three plastic bags; walk outdoors to a place where the ants can drink the coconut milk in peace.

Now swing the plastic bag with the coconut inside over your head onto the concrete. Do not bang on clay bricks as you can break them, find a good stone, concrete post, or something very solid and bang away.

A truly good whack the first time is the best strategy, take care about the coconut milk, this is a messy operation.

You will still need a knife to pry the coconut from the shell, however the best way I know to crack this nut.

Help Wanted BlackBerry Versus Iphone

Help Wanted BlackBerry Versus Iphone

I want help! I do not live in the USA!

I was asked by Verizon to review their BlackBerry Storm, and I have been grateful ever since because of the new freedom the data plan has given me to write this Travel Journal. However, because I do not live in the USA, because I cannot just walk into a store and ask questions until satisfied, I have a nagging question eating me away….
“Does the Iphone have or not have the same Global Data plan ability?” (Email)

Some reader out in never never land must be traveling globally with an Iphone and can give me a conclusive answer!

(Global! This means OUTSIDE the USA, many countries, if you have an Iphone and use in one country, this is NOT you.)

I am focused on “Data Only,” plan (Email), Verizon tries to couple the Telephone plan with the Data plan, however I am in love with the Global Email aspect of the Data Connection, it is not just Email, I can use the whole internet so they are understating what is possible.

This is confusing!

Data Connection

The Data Only plan cost 69.99, and is worth it, this is a great value, I am not sure yet what various other add on cost Verizon has in mind, but if the cost is around 75 Dollars a month, I am in, I want it even when I have to pay myself. This is truly a global internet connection, it is truly global freedom to roam the planet and have an internet connection without hassles.

IPHONE?
I am told with the Iphone a person needs to arrange an internet connection in every country. This is what I DO NOT WANT TO DO, I do not want to talk, discuss, and even think about talking to the annoying cell companies in other countries. I have done this, it is an act of God to deal with the companies, they are truly anal.

I just changed continents, the Global (Email) Data plan from Verizon allowed me to seamlessly, gracefully and without a problem change from Africa to Southeast Asia without missing a beat. Yes, a person needs to fiddle with the Data Connection, however once a person learn how to do this traveling globally with a connection is a breeze.

Can the Iphone use the same Data plan? If I had an Iphone or one of the other Smartphones on the market, could I use the Verizon Data plan? ATT? Sprint? Am I mixing or confusing plans, does the BlackBerry have a special advantage right now over the Iphone?

I am working on the "Tether" problem, can I tether my BlackBerry storm to my computer and piggyback this connection?

2009 June 10 Enter Thailand Leave Kenya
My 530 US Dollars flight with Qatar Airlines from Nairobi, Kenya to Bangkok, Thailand went off without a hitch. I was worried about a 45-minute layover in Doha, the travel agent in Kenya could not understand why this was a problem, which again made me nervous…

She said,
“You will be able to transfer planes.”
I said,
“I am not worried about my body; I am worried about the luggage.”
She repeats,
“There is no problem; it is a small airport you can easily walk to the gate.”

English language problems, understanding problems, and the lack of humility to listen… aagh.

Gee whiz, it is difficult to deal with a Kenya travel agent who probably has never been on an airplane or left the country. Jeroen my travel agent here in Bangkok was the one who found the plane ticket and the agent in Kenya more or less just took the money and issued the ticket. Jeroen did not like that I purchased the ticket from the Kenya agent, however since he demands I pay for Western Union fees and cannot get the Paypal thingy working I guess he loses. Travel Agents cannot think that loyalty is going to save them. Convenience in purchasing tickets online will probably put 90 percent of Travel Agents out of business.

I should give Jeroen 25 US Dollars as a consulting fee; this maybe will keep him happy even though he does not understand how to be a consultant. I keep trying to say,
“Do not get angry; realize you new position in life must be as a consultant, not a ticket vendor.”

I have done tons of consulting work as a Real Estate Broker, when someone tries to pay you consulting fees the transition is strange, one somehow must slowly accept that what they know is more valuable than what they are selling.

Glad to Know Thai People Lie

Glad to Know Thai People Lie
Walked out of the Hotel to flag down a Taxi, the driver says the airport is closed, he can take me close, but I will need to walk into the Airport… They PAD Yellow Shirt protester in Thailand are supposed to have seized the airport and closed it down.

While in the Taxi, the driver turns on the Radio, he has already refused to turn on the Meter, I am held hostage for a 500 Baht Taxi trip, about double the normal, then about half the way to the airport he says,
“All flights cancelled.”
I say,
“Go Airport,”

He is angry, I do not care, he is a liar, it is the culture, but I am betting another 500 Baht Taxi trip, hours of waiting in traffic, mass confusion with a Taxi driver that will say anything to make the extra Baht. If he can convince me to turn around, he will earn 500 Baht for the trip, not have to make the trip and another fare for the return trip to Khao San Road.

If I turn around, I risk losing a 1000-dollar plane ticket from Bangkok to Indianapolis, Indiana, and missing Thanksgiving Dinner.

I know Thailand, I never would just trust a Thailand person, and for sure, I would not trust any Taxi driver on planet Earth.

The airport drop off area is closed, the PAD, the yellow shirt protest are lined up on the top deck of the airport, there are multiple road blocks, however we do go all the way to the airport. He drops at the lowest areas, truly the traffic was not that bad, just a confusing.

I got on the Korea Air flight to Seoul, there was no problem, life is good and I am out of Thailand.

The last thing I get to hear is a Thailand Taxi driver lying to me, but this is the culture, they will say about anything plausible, and if you buy it, you lose and you can go home saying,
"the Thailand people are so nice..."
-- aagh!

If I had trusted the Thailand culture to be honest, I would have missed a flight, missed Thanksgiving and maybe lost 1000 US Dollars.

10 Days in the USA

10 Days in the USA
I will fly to the USA tonight, I admit I need it, I can feel myself slowly going crazy here in Thailand.

I cannot truly tell you why, however, there is something difficult about Thailand that slowly makes me nuts. It is cheap here, the quality of life is good enough. I truly cannot say why I feel a little crazy when I am in Thailand.

When a person lives outside their own country, they need to hack out a place where they belong, I wonder if that is possible in Thailand.

Deflation is Needed

Deflation is Needed
As best I can interpret the global economy, the price of the majority Homes and Consumer products have been sold at gouge level profits for about 10-30 years.

In my opinion, about 40 percent needs hacked off all prices, they need deflated, and the tourist industry needs a healthy 100-250 percent.

There is the nick and gouge theory of business, and the world has been gouging for years. You can gouge one customer or you can nick a lot of them, the world needs to get back to nicks where they make a fair days pay for a fair days work. I feel everyone wishes to get rich in anyway they can.

I am truly worry the governments are not trying to slowly deflate this gouge made balloon, instead they want to put more hot air into the system.

The Toilet Spray Nozzle Argument

The Toilet Spray Nozzle Argument
Me and my Thai girlfriend returned from Koh SiChang to a Hotel near Khao San Road, she goes in the restroom and comes out trying to say something in English.

----------------------------------

It was about a spray nozzle thingy in the toilet…
(Note, the Europeans get angry when I say restroom.)

She would have said something like this if she knew all the correct words in English.

“There is sh--t on the head of the nozzle.”
“They did not clean the restroom good.”
I then said,
“Welcome to Thailand.”
She tried to say,
“This is their job.”
I said,
“What do you expect when someone sticks that thing up their a--ss.”
She said,
“They should do good work.”
I said,
“What do you want me to do?”
"Welcome to Thailand."
She said,
“They are supposed to clean the restroom good.”
I said,
“Clean it.”
“Put it in the toilet and flush it a few times.”

Well, I then went into this diatribe about how they should have a power wash systems in Hotels, and big brushes to wash the toilets. Then gave a few other explanations on how a Hotel could or should allow their staff to clean a toilet.

She said,
“Aagh, I need the toilet.”
I said,
“What do you want to do?”
I finally said,
“Please go down to the desk and ask them to clean that thing.”

I knew I did not know the Thai words for spray nozzle and I would never be able to explain to the reception desk. They sent up this guy who sits out in the hall all day smoking, somewhat has acne and really I would not want to enter the toilet after him. He takes some toilet paper and does something inside the toilet.

She comes out again.
“Scream.”

Now, I go down, saying something to the effect, you need to have someone clean who knows how to clean, and you need to make sure the A--Hole does it. You are the manager, do you job!

I am laughing all the while, knowing they truly do stick this nozzle between their legs and spray their A--s. Many traveler say this is cleaner, I think they drink the water too much.

We finally moved rooms.

I was going to title this,
“Where in the H--ll is the Manager?”

Truly, it would be nice on planet earth if a manager of a Hotel cared enough to check their workers, however I know the truth… as long as nobody complains, they do not care. And the Hotel is 10 times cleaner than the homes where these people live, so how would they know what a clean room looks like, they never seen one in their lives.

Note, of all the cheap countries on the planet, Thailand is one of the cleanest, it is downhill from here...
