Euro versus Dollar

Euro versus Dollar
I often hear this debate from travelers, more often I hear the Europeans bragging about their Euros.

I truly laugh, anyway you do it, paying with Euros, Dollars, Pounds, Yen, etc,

The cost of living in Europe is close to double the USA. This means, they have half the size of an apartment, half the number of DVDs, and pay double the cost to have internet access.

France must be triple.

What you get for the same amount of money inside a country is more important than the exchange rate. What is the buying power, how many eggs do I get for one U.S. Dollar?

I think if you want to do better, go to Zimbabwe, I think the money is presently crashing and is worth a look.

I have tried to create a true way of evaluating the cost of living in a country. I have been thinking about this issue for years. There are only three items that to me are indicators of cost of living in a country. I attempt to explain that when a normal person is getting PAID five dollar per day, to pay 100 dollars per night for a hotel is ridiculous.

However, there are three food items I believe I have seen sold in every country.

Chickens
Eggs and
Peanuts

Here is an online straw poll survey page made to try to discover the world
Cost of Chicken Eggs and Peanuts

I earn USA Dollars, and pay in other currencies, for 10 years, I just do not see this a huge problem for the traveler or tourist, some business people yes.

why don't you pay a fair amount for your photos. Your site would be
boring without them. Fair point about difference between magazine and internet but that is a lame reason to rip off your contributors. x

Answer:

I see the size of cameras; I see the investment made by average people on the planet in cameras. Daily, I see cameras that cost over 2000 U.S. Dollars as I walk around the streets of Bangkok, Thailand.

I recently wrote a post about being a Photographer. I compared being a photographer to winning the lottery.
http://www.hobotraveler.com/2008/02/famous-photographer-lottery.html

I am tempted to be sarcastic about the anonymous person that wrote me.

However, take this photo above; I consider it one of the best photos I have ever taken. I personally took this photo in Benin, West Africa, in the small city of Natitingou Benin on Wednesday, September 27, 2006.

1782 U.S. Dollars

If someone can tell me how to get paid 1782 US Dollars for this photo, I would love to sell it.

Maybe I should take it as a compliment this person wants to sell photographs to me, however in a way, I think they should be sending mean mail to Flickr.com, YouTube.com or Travelblogs.com etc. I was offering to pay; these sites are convincing you they are doing you a favor to have you make them money. Photographer Wanted

When I figure out how I am to make money taking photos and putting up on the internet, I will probably pass on 100 percent of what I earn to the photographer.

I do wish to Thank Eric for making some maps, these are truly of value, I asked him about how to pay, the value of them and he rufused. This is work, I truly know that many of my photos are just being in the right place at the right time.

Boy Genius from India says,

The girl from Thailand, that has a master in Pharmacology focuses more on Boy Genius, saying.
- No too much jumping. No too much exciting. I no want heart attack -
Spoken in perfect Thai English.

I keep using the word,
- Tweak -

Tweak:
To adjust something slightly: to make a slight adjustment or change to something, especially in order to improve it or fix it (informal)
Example: tweaked the engine

Glossary of Webmaster Terms

Problem: How to have many cultures, and many languages work on a project and communicated effectively?

There is an intriguing language and cultural problem I face every day. People speak English as best they can, trying to explain what they are thinking. The words are not specific, it is not good diction; there is nothing succinct and clarifying about the words they use. I need to interpret correctly at a high level of accuracy, maybe up to 60 percent correct to make progress.
This works good when talking in person, however over Yahoo Messenger Chat the interpretation accuracy goes down to about 30 percent or less.

I guess in buzzword terms, we need to be on the same page.

When I hear slang spoken by an English speaker, I often cringe, thinking the person just went down to about 5 percent capacity to be understood.

Counting Countries for Travelers Explained

Counting Countries
How many countries have I visited is a topic of many long term travelers. The number has never important to me as is obvious, 10 plus years of travel and only 77 countries is horrible progress.

However, I am flying to the USA, will stop in South Korea for 13 hours and could leave the airport. I think I need travelers judge call… does this mean I can say I visited South Korea? A curious question.

I guess according to the site MostTraveledPeople.com I can count the 13 hours in South Korea.

I think one month in a country is a short visit.

Find the Way… Wayfinding Maps

I do not want to be a person with a the sad story…
- I went to the airport and they would not allow me on the plane because I did not have a visa. -

I got in an argument in Togo with an airlines ticket person trying to tell her,
- I do not need a visa to enter Equatorial Guinea as a USA citizen. -
She was refusing to sell me a ticket.

Kosovo Complicates My Life

Kosovo Complicates My Life
I have a part time job; it is the study of a sub-category of Geography that I have not figured out the name for…

I am required by this part-time job to study and keep an ongoing list of countries of the planet. I say the word countries loosely, and please use this word cautiously as it can mean or infer many things. - Country -
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geography

Kosovo is in the process of claiming independence, the list of country is changing, or is it? When will we decide, look at Tibet, Israel, 50 years after the fact and the world will not accept they are not refugees.

There needs to be expiration date on how use of the word refugee is allowed, this is asinine.

I truly do not want to start typing on this subject, the part time job is work enough, and I do not need to double it by explaining.

Saint Barthélemy is also a troublemaker, this little island I believe has or is changing it categorical country or whatever status.

What is even worst, I must slice and dice words. I must be so outrageously correct in use of words, it is forever annoying. It is like listening to a political correct person telling me about my views on women and realizing I am talking to myself.

The list of countries on the planet.

The study of the list of countries must have an official sounding name?

I could talk for hours on why most travel sites just are money hungry jerks, as they say they cover the planet, yet do not even come close to being a world-class site. There are hotel-booking sites; there are internet pages that complete ignore up to 75 countries of the planet, not enclaves, protectorates, but countries that are sovereign, independent nations.

I can hear them say,
- Ooops, I forgot, these countries do not make us money so we ignore. -

Some of the business traveler’s sites are just absurd, if there is any group of people that cannot ignore countries, it is the true business travelers.

I am not sure I can even hire someone to do this job, it has to be an act of free love or they will not try to do their best.

I truly do not want to be seen as a person who ignored a whole country. I see you Kosovo and Saint Barthélemy, I am not ignoring you, I am just not sure how to proceed. You are requiring me to change some 75,000 pages and maybe 7 million.

Exceptions to Generalization Trendy

Exceptions to Generalization Trendy
I think there is a very anti-intellectual fashion or trend on the planet earth. People wish to announce what an exception to generalizations.

I truly believe generalizations, norms and stereotypes, profiling and other ways keep me safe, I try to attune my instincts and critical thinking to identify norms.

Trolls and Flamers…. Hehehe

I was trying to get Andrew to first agree or not agree with generalizations about uses of internet pages.

I would say something like the majority of users use Internet Explorer browsers and this is priority users.

He would say something like,
- Firefox is being used. -

Yes, of course, but really more of a trendy thing to say, and not pivotal or essential to the discussion, extra noise.

Finding exceptions to a generalization is trendy, what is up with this, annoying and problem making as there is no way I can live a day without a juicy generalization, stereotype or rationalization.

This is the map on the home page of HoboTraveler.com
http://www.hobotraveler.com/

I need to meet with Boy Genius from India about three times per year and probably other workers as they come on board.

We need:
- Private Room
- 24 / 7 High Speed Internet connection
- The cost of a round trip ticket should not be more than about 1000 USD.
- One month stay and transportation cost inside the country is not part of the budget, as we will not be traveling around.

We have been surfing, studying, researching our next meeting, and presently Portugal is our next planned country for a meeting.

Strange quirk of budgets, it is easier to rent a room for a month in Europe than to rent a room in Asia. We need to rent hotel rooms in Asia while we can rent private home rooms in Europe. The language is a problem in Asia, while we can find English pages in Europe. We also find a lot of rooms for students studying the languages with WIFI.

We needed to pay 750 Baht per night to live here in Bangkok and have 24/7 internet connection with acceptable rooms.
23.50 U.S. Dollars per night
705 US per month for Thailand

We have found many rooms in Europe for between 300 and 600 Euros per month, less than Thailand.

Funny I told Andrew,
- You have a 10 times better chance of getting robbed in Europe so you will have to be very careful. -

Asia is 10 times safer from robbery.

I have country by country pages where a person can submit their budget for a country and explain. Choose a country and submit the amount of money you need to budget to travel to these countries.
