Broadband Speed Test

Broadband Speed Test
I rent rooms in Hotels, when I am extremely lucky I have a broadband connection inside my room that allows me to make telephone calls using Skype.com. I want to know before I enter a room if the broadband speed is sufficient to use Skype.com.

I found a Broadband Speed test; I would like to get some feedback and opinions.

I have written many comments on the speed of internet; I find this below of little value.

This jobby does not work.

It can say about anything and still the connection is slow or fast, there seem to be only a small correlation between this and the true speed, probably because I am always sharing an internet connection.

REMEMBER THIS AND WARNING
You will be always sharing a connection in a Hotel room; at night between the hours of 7 and 11, the internet will be slower. If this is the time you want to use the internet, then you need to do test at this time of night. The fastest connections I experience are between the times of midnight and six in the morning.

I found this on a Broadband Speed Test on a web site by accident called ThaiVisa.com, which also appears to be great resource for information on Thailand.

Please tell me, what do you think, can it replace my Skype.com test.

SKYPE.COM TEST
If I were really in need of a high-speed connection, I would go to a Hotel, connect at about 8:00 PM at night to their internet connection and try to make a Skype.com and listen or experience the quality.

Here is the link to the test.

ThaiVisa.com Index Page Thailand Visa

Many links of similar type test below, I want to know if this is really going to show me how fast or slow my connection is, I share connections, this should go up and down as more people are sharing the connection. What happens when I move from connection to connection, does one test that does not care where I am located?

Thanks

The New Global Anger

The New Global Anger
I have been noticing a move from innocence to anger in the last few years of my travels. I believe education and knowledge has created a generation of angry people who are looking for a reason to be angry.

If you disturb a sleeping dog, it may get angry. I have been observing the new “Electronics Generation” and I do not like what I see.

I am going to blame this anger on Education.

I am going to blame this anger on Knowledge.

In the last ten years their has been an explosion in knowledge of the world and access by the inhabitants of the planet.

We have a generation of over stimulated primates who now are a bunch of “Know it alls.”

As I have observed the planet earth in my travels, there are some universal global behaviors that leads people to become arrogant and angry when

1. They have a lot of money.
2. They have a lot of knowledge.
3. They believe they have a lot of knowledge.
4. They have a mobile phone in their hand.
5. They have a computer.
6. They have a title or label.

The majority of people on the planet now think they are intelligent. This leads them all to believe that other should listen to their opinion and when the people around do not listen to their opinion, and subsequently following their advice the become angry.

It is as if everyone is waiting for someone to disagree so they can end the friendships, have a fit of anger and just try to demand control.

I notice this on this Blog, I daily moderate and delete comments that are angry and argumentative. My job is to give an opinion, this is my journal, it is a daily diary of sorts, and this is 100 percent opinions.

Why do people get angry when they read an opinion?

How can I blog without giving an opinion, it not possible.

I have a few personal experiences on the planet that very few people in their lives have the opportunity to experience. I am one of the most globally traveled persons on the planet, however I can write about some rare situation in a small corner of the planet and I will have some person say,
“You do not know what you are talking about.”

I have spent about one year in West Africa, and I will have people who have never even left the USA tell me I know nothing about Africa.

I have people who have never been to Iraq; tell me about Iraq as if I know nothing about the country.

When reading and the internet, this virtual travel experience becomes so empowering that people believe it can replace real life experience I am sad. It is baffling to me to think that a people that have barely left their computer or home can feel so audaciously powerful.

The world is becoming a place full of know it alls, who spend their whole time behind a computer and believe they know something. If there is one think I know in life, going to a country is more powerful than reading about a country.

Why are people looking for arguments, do they all want to get divorced, sit in a room alone and stare at a stupid computer.

Thailand Says USA has Hamburger Problem

Thailand Says USA has Hamburger Problem
Too funny, I was jabbering away with a Thailand girl, commenting on the economic problem in the USA, and she said,
“We say you have a Hamburger problem.”

As best I can understand Thailand had some economic problems in 1997, which some people called the
“Tom Yam Kung Crisis.”

Tom Yam Kung is a typical food of Thailand, and the world defines the USA by the Hamburger.

This is a bowl of Tom Yam Kung, I would say it some type of Shrimp Soup with a lot of hard to eat vegetables.

The same day I learned about Tom Yam Kung, I also met a dog by the same name. Meet,
“Tom Yam Kung” the dog.

I guess the USA is having a Hamburger Economic Problem and the whole world has started to eat Hamburger.

We have hired three new workers, one from India, one from Pakistan, and one from Egypt.

They are hired as PHP Coders and I am enjoying all the different language backgrounds, lifestyles and time zones.

Techies have to some of the most intelligent animals on the planet; however, they tend to speak in two word sentences. I think they scored high on the math section and low on verbal with their SAT scores. However, I see no reason why they would take that test; it really is a different world outside.

Iraq War Was Not a Mistake

Iraq War Was Not a Mistake
I went to Iraq in August - September of 2003, shortly after the major fighting ended. I was 18 years old when the Vietnam War ended, I had a draft card, however I never went.

I do take offense from Obama and consider it an insult to the country when he calls Iraq a mistake, I have been there and it was not a mistake. I spent 30 day there, entering from Silopi, Turkey traveling by land to Basrah by way of group taxi, bus and train.

Here is a video from a Soldier in Iraq that will make you shiver.

I also know the Vietnam War was a success, we stopped the Chinese from coming down into all of Southeast Asia to dominate these countries. We successfully stopped what was called the domino theory and one of the reasons for the war.

I did not have to go and fight, I know I am lucky, however I consider it bad form, and bad manners to talk the way many people do about Iraq or Vietnam or any war. People die in War and right or wrong, they deserve respect.

I was young and foolish at age 18, I was disrespectful to the soldiers, I protested and complained, I made a fool of myself. I felt very foolish years later when I went to Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia and studied the war. I realized I was protesting at age 18 and had no idea what the war was even about, this is my shame, and I will remember this for the rest of my life.

I do understand that a person can be like Obama and not really understand the full implications of their words. I also know what it feels like to open my mouth and speak without thinking,

Thanks to the Soldiers, they went in my stead.

How to Buy Juice When Traveling

How to Buy Juice When Traveling
Here is a Travel Tip on how to buy 100 percent real Juice. This is not as easy as you think, say you want Orange, Apple, Grape Juice or my favorites Lemon and Grapefruit.

Here are two photos of Orange Juice labels here in Thailand.

There is real 100 percent Juice, and there is sugar water trying to pass itself off as juice. A person cannot just buy a box that says Orange Juice on it and expect to get Orange Juice.

Then again, many boxes do not say "Orange Juice" do they.

This is the Thailand Language for what I presume means,
“Orange Juice.”

Ok, there are normally photos on the box, however you need to look very close for the,
“100.”

IF it does not have a 100 on it, I would recommend you just say no.

I have been in many countries where I was not able to find one box that said 100 Percent. I hope they mean 100 percent Orange Juice, however I am not positive, I am just hoping to give you a tip to hedge your bets.

Is YouTube.com Blocked in Thailand

Is YouTube.com Blocked in Thailand
YouTube.com is blocked in Thailand and it is not blocked, the truth appears to be they are doing both.

I was in an Rangsit where there was no foreigners and YouTube.com has been blocked for a week. I came over to the Khao San Road area and they do not have it blocked.

I think Thailand is trying to be clever; they blocked their people who cannot communicate easily with the world. While the allow the foreigner areas like Khao San Road to have access. Effectively getting the world press off their backs, and unless the World Press and the Foreigners went to off the track places they would never know the truth.

I say,
“Thailand is Blocking YouTube.com from its people.”

Then again, this may be a good idea.

Thailand Apartment for 50 Dollars Per Month

Thailand Apartment for 50 Dollars Per Month
I have found an area close to Thammasat University where there are many apartments for rent from 1500 to 2500 Baht per month.

1,700.00 THB = 49.8925 USD

This room is good and better than any room I have stayed in on Khao San Road; it is the same as a large Hotel room.

----------------------------------

There are many price levels of apartments in Thailand; here is my guesstimate of price ranges.

All listed in Thailand Baht, one dollar is about 33-34 Baht.

1. 7000 and up is the life of leisure income class
2. 2000-7000 above average income
3. 1000-2000 normal Joe Workman with a nice concrete room.
4. Under 1000 either squatter or a little packed in lifestyle.

My guess is about 90 percent of people live in the number 3-4 or in the apartments that cost less than 2000 Baht per month.

Thailand is my base where I purchase plane tickets and plan trips to other parts of the planet. I also need an address outside the USA to use for Tax purposes, the one I had in the Philippines is not working correct. I could also use a storage location, so I can have supplies for funky trips.

As I am speculating today, the cost of renting this apartment for one year is 600 Dollars, and in addition, I have to pay for electricity and water.

I am able to rent for only three months, I need to pay 5100 Baht to move into the Apartment, and then I would need to buy a bed and other small things that are in a normal Hotel room.

I have been debating on Air Conditioning, it is often more or a problem than an asset. I like Air Con when everything is perfect, however it is never perfect, there is tons of noise, the going in and out of air-conditioned room is uncomfortable. The rooms I looked at all have small balconies and front walking area with a rail. The build these building that go up to six floors with no elevator.

What always stops me from getting the cheapest rooms is the internet, today with these two internet pages, HoboTraveler.com and HoboHideOut.com, I need internet to manage them. I do not need internet to Blog, this Blog is the easiest thing I do in my life, I suppose each post takes me from 15 to 30 minutes to type, something I do in my spare time when I have a extra time, or when I am watching Television.

I believe the apartment would have a Television cable connection included that would allow me up to 40 something stations.

I have been trying to figure out if I want to use the AIS GPRS Internet connection, or if I can have internet installed. I was told about a DTAC Edvo system, however all of this is incredibly difficult to figure out because I must go to the offices and ask questions. I cannot talk on the telephone because the English is too difficult, the only way to do this simple and correct is to go the offices and ask about Internet connections.

I want all the utilities whereby I can turn them on and off, whereby I can stop all expenses except for rent if I was gone, which can be for months on end.

I would have a place to store a few things and I would be able to rent the room out to friends if I wanted too.

Location, this is the real issue, there is real life and there is vacation life, the average person who travels wants endless vacation. They do not know this, but the reality is the average person who says they are traveling the planet wants to go on an endless party vacation that never ends. This is not real life, this is vacation life, and for sure, it is not truly travel.

Many people who say they are traveling are really doing just what I am discussing right now; they rent an apartment in another country and call it travel. I think I can save a lot of money by renting an apartment in Thailand and not have to spend all my time searching for something that works as a temporary base as I come and go from Thailand.

There is setup time in any new Hotel room I enter, I have to arrange the lights, the clothesline, and I must figure out where the shopping is done, internet, laundry, and endless list of daily needs that need to be met, I call this setting up my Traveler Nest.

The problem with a Traveler Nest is there is always a couple of things missing, presently in the great room where I am located, the laundry are difficult, and I need to walk a long way to eat. The internet is great, the rooms are large, however there are few people to talk with, and it gets boring.

Truthfully, the room is the easy part; the other periphery things around the room are what are difficult.

I do not work much, I am more retired than most people I meet who say they are retired; I have an over-abundance of time to just walk around and look at people and places. I do not get excited and take on some huge project where I need to say,
“I am busy.”

I think those three words coming out of a persons mouth tells me they are out of control. I know the outside forces around the person are making them live a reactive rather than proactive lifestyle. They have lost control of their time and their lives, and are hopelessly caught in a hamster treadmill inside their cage.
