Dial 1330 Korean Translation Taxi Help

Dial 1330 Korean Translation Taxi Help
There is this nice tourist service in Seoul, South Korea that is really needed, however I have not figured out any way to use it. You can dial 1330 and they will talk to you in English and then can tell a taxi driver in the Korean Language where you wish to go.

Problem, the Mobile Phones in South Korea do not seem to work for the Europeans or Americans.

If you want to drop some money, make life easy, I believe you can rent a phone at the airport to use. Plus they alos sell phone everywhere in this country, however, I have no idea how to buy the SIM card, or use. There is nobody in the Hostel or Hotel that has a Cell Phone that is working, however I met an English Teacher who ask me,
“Do you have cell phone?”

Always a strange question for a person who just arrived from the airport with two bag and plane check in tickets still taped on his bag.

I would never use an American phone in another country, unless I was on 500 US Dollar per day budget.

My solution to all transportation problems has been to use only the subway, and no other form of transportation. It may be possible at the Airport to say, “InsaDong” and get to this major tourist trap street. There are many hotels in the area, and one Hostel, the Hotels go from 30-40 US for backpacker grade, and you can rent a dorm bed for 20 U.S. More or less the same as Europe or a little cheaper for the single rooms.

There does seem to be buses to Insadong from the Airport, which would be faster than the Subway for 9000 Korean whatnots or about 9 US Dollars. It arrived in front of a YMCA, you would get out, turn right and walk to Insadong, find the Tourist Information booth and beg for mercy.

Insadong is the Center of the Backpacker Universe for the Anguk Area, however lets be real, this is 100 percent tourists with backpacks here in this area, it is not a Backpack Ghetto, it is a tourist trap Ghetto.

There are four acceptable Hostels or Hotels near Insadong, however I have no idea how to explain to get there. I will say, if you read the Lonely Planet and it says get out exit 4, this doe not mean the fourth subway stop. What they mean is there are many doors leading out of the subway, you need to find door number 4 and leave so you are pointed toward the Hostel area, you more or less walk down hill pass a temple thing and take the first left.

Arrive early in the day, and beg for mercy, no taxi will have a clue where you are going, so get a map and hope to arrive to the Hostel or Hotel before the sun goes down.

Map, it is the only way and plan on a lot of walking, note that you really could or should have a two wheel cart in South Korea, it is competing with Europe for the most amount of exercises countries of the planet.

If a person truly wanted to wander around this country, I think the only reasonable way to do this would be to go to the Banana or Seoul Backpacker Hostel, hang around for at least 10 days, absorb as much as possible, then venture out.

The only person I know for sure who went anywhere outside of Seoul was a man with a Korean Girlfriend, all the others are people are just doing some type of Metro Hop Tours of Seoul.

I have not found any traveler here without a welcome wagon person or organization of some sort of person that greased the wheels. I feel to backpack this country, you must learn the language to travel with the least amount of confusion. Or you can be like most travelers of the planet, have many problems and deny it was difficult.

I often think about buying one of the professional grade Canon or Nikon Cameras, or even the new Sony with the removable lenses, however the better cameras do not have the ability to make videos. I would need to carry two camera, not my idea of leisure wandering of the planet.

500 US Dollar Travel Budget Countries

500 US Dollar Travel Budget Countries
I am adding South Korea to a mental list of countries that would be fun on a 500 US dollar per day budget.

This is my ugly list, countries that are ugly living unless on a gluttonous budget.

Korea could also be called a “Tour Only Country,” best done from the seat of a tour bus with a tour guide.

I groups all of Europe in the 500 per day category, ugly countries unless you are willing to mortgage your soul to enjoy. New York City is a 500 per day city, I just have no idea how a person could enjoy truly enjoy the place on a cheap budget.

Forget Paris, this place needs 1000 just to remove the ugly grimace off the face of the place and me...

I am happy only 20 percent of the planet are 500 US Dollar per day countries, and the most beautiful are not these countries.

I thing many people equate shopping with beauty, Korea could be considered a tourist trap mall shopping country.

I have yet to hear some person who hates his father, tell me how they also hate their country here in South Korea. The normal anti-USA, anti-Anything, the totally illogical and childishly fashionable group are not here in South Korea.

This is great, like a breath of fresh thinking, people doing their own dreams and not complaining about other people.

Population Density Map

Population Density Map
I was talking with a Russian girl in the Hostel when I realized, I do not know the population of Russia.

Russia has 142 Million people.

I said,
“That is smaller than Brazil.”

Brazil has 187 Million

Hmm, I have been thinking the world ignores Brazil.

I have been feeling like a Sardine in a can the last few weeks in these runt sized countries. Russia is huge, the number of people is not as relevant to comfort as population density.

There are some crowded countries on the planet.

Taiwan 23 Million
South Korea 49 Million
Japan 127 Million - Must be really crowded in Japan

I have already places this map on the WayFinding Maps link of HoboTraveler.com for traveler and tourist who want to find the way.

What Time do Koreans Wake Up

What Time do Koreans Wake Up
7:45 am, two Norwegian girls ask me,
“What time do Koreans wake up?”

This is a very polite and full of empathy question.

I was fumbling around trying to answer for a couple of minutes, then finally said,
“What time do you call people in Norway, it is about the same here.”

There are some humorous and intriguing cultural anticipations from tourist and travelers as they visit the world. They truly think the people are going to be different however people are generally the same.

I added later, if you called the person at 9:00 am in Norway, then call the same type of person at 9:00 here in Korea. The only variation of this is that in West Africa I know you could call one hour earlier. Because as best I could observer African wake up early and do not try to avoid the day. I would think the Islamic people would wake up earlier, however have not found that to be true.

There are countries known for their organizational skills and intelligence like Germany, Japan or even the USA. Then people are surprised how many stupid people they meet in these countries like for some reason they should not exist.

There is continual drone from Europeans that have visited the USA on the number of stupid people. I on the other hand have visited many European and I am positive they have their share of stupid people.

Then again, did the smart ones or the dumb ones immigrate from Europe to the USA?

Nonetheless, people do go to other countries and anticipate certain type of behavior from the country and in a self-prophesizing way they find what they want to believe. My opinion is most core behaviors of the human animal is essentially the same. However just because a person speaks a different language is not huge difference in cultures.

None of these Tourist Rat subject are working or have any reason to differentiate between a Friday night and a Monday night. This group in a Classical Conditioning manner all decided Friday night was party night.

As a traveler or a tourist the days of week fuse, I place zero priority on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday they are just another day in my life.

However there are few travelers who ever lose they Rat Lab Conditioning.

MEI Voyageur a Great Travel Bag

MEI Voyageur a Great Travel Bag

MEI Voyageur a Traveler Bag

This is the optimal size for a Travel Bag 14 x 22 x 9 inches, the carryon size for Airplane. I finally found this photo when searching for photos of this bag on google.com and it lead me from what I think is a vendor of the product to the actual manufacturer.

I do not see how a person could go wrong with this bag, it is a top and somebody truly understand what is needed in a travel bag.

This is a photo of the MEI Voyageur by a company called Genuine Gear, Inc.

There is some discrepancy because Tom gave the link of http://www.meivoyageur.com/ for the Backpack, however I tend to feel the true source of the backpack is another website that has the URL of http://www.meipacks.com/ .

I hope to try to give the company a call on Skype.com when the sun aligns correctly so the other side of the planet is in the right time and space to allow me to call. I am on the other side of the planet and about exactly 12 hours difference.
