Gaddafi Marks his Territory in the USA

Gaddafi Marks his Territory in the USA
President Obama is one, maybe two generations away from being African. I wonder if he knows that Africa and Arab culture mark their territory? I watch Obama walk, I listen to him talk, and Obama shows respect to people in the Africa manner, he shakes hands with both hands, bowing towards the person. He talks endlessly in a smooth fashion fully aware he cannot do what he says. This is the Africa way, tons of talk, and no action.

However, come on he does know what Muammar al-Gaddafi is doing with this tent in the USA. Obama should not allow Gaddafi to walk around in the USA and piss in the corners of our culture.

Gaddafi a terrorist is making his mark, he is provoking and challenging the USA, this is clear to me, he is being African, he is being Arab, he is winning, again my country is clueless.

The “Right to Bear Arms.”

I think this situation lies in the realm of the right to bear arms, the second amendment of the USA.

Gaddafi should be allowed to speak at the United Nations, he has the right to rent a room in a Hotel, the Hotel does not have the right to refuse him entry, and this is our law. However, to come in and piss in the corners of our culture is a provocation and insult to the USA culture, he is the leader of a nation, he is outside his rights.

Amazing, just amazing, where are all those crazies who are supposed to be training in the mountains of Wyoming?

Best City Block for Photographers
Here is video of what is probably one of the best city blocks on the planet to photograph. A travel photographer can, could, needs and should take the audience in and out of their comfort zones. I can show you the chain Hotels, and then jump over to street children, I can show you Filipino people dressed in Western Clothes, but just leaving a brothel, it is twist your soul just for kicks.

GOOD FUN
If I wanted, I could elicit pity, pain, love, sympathy and without losing a beat, I could enrage readers with just honest comments.

The art of photography in my opinion is about contrast, the ability of the viewer to relate and not relate within seconds. To feel comfortable then walk into a dark closet, this is the game we play, maybe I should say I.

I started walking at the Hyatt here in Manila and walked around a city block here in Manila, one of the most interesting to photograph blocks on the planet.

I started this video walk at the corner of Mabini and Pedro Gil here in the Malate area of Manila.

The Philippines is Asian more than they are Western, just because they speak English sometimes, do not get yourself confused. This man and boy are squatting in a typical Asian manner, this is an Asian Country and very primitive. I can hop from super modern to complete primitive behavior in a heartbeat, this is a fun culture to observe if you do not walk in an emotional mud puddles.

This is like being a voyeur looking into the shower of your trailer trash neighbors after they had a huge party the night before. You truly want to look the other way, but why would you, there is soap opera on steroids going on for free, reality TV can never compete with reality, one is delusional and the other destroys your illusions.

If only tourist and travelers admitted to themselves they enjoy see the dirty laundry of their neighbors, they would stop whinging and enjoy the trip.

Filipina Girl goes to Saudi Arabia

Filipina Girl goes to Saudi Arabia
The story of life passes by us daily, everyone has a unique story, I listed to Bing and Christie tell me theirs today in the Mini Mart at 7:30 am.

Bing is on the left, Christie is on the right, I spied them walking around near Robinsons Mall at 7:00 am in the morning. They looked out of place, for sure, Christie is, and maybe Bing has been around the block a few times.

Bing the aunt of Christie came from the province of Pagansinan to help Christie leave to work in Saudi Arabia as a house cleaner or domestic help. The husband for some reason could not make it…

Christie has a husband and one child; she will be gone for two years. I asked,
“Aren’t you afraid your husband will find a new wife?”
She said,
“No.”

I whispered very quietly, below the conscious level of shame and truth, just quiet enough for her to gracefully ignore, she is look at me, she is reading my lips.
“Bola Bola.”

I took these two photos with my Cell Phone camera, the reflection off the glass, the surreal nature of the moment; the sweetness of Christie was painful. I spied her because she did not fit in, like a precious stone. This neighborhood around Robinsons Mall in Ermita, Mabini, Malate area of Manila is broken, it is full of damaged good, what was she doing here?
“She was NOT wearing high heels, she had on flats, with a face full of innocence, she was getting read for the slaughter.”

I walked a way, suddenly the words of a song came to my head, I am not sure what the mean and why they came to be associate in my brain at the moment I walked away from two people I will never see again in this life.

“I've been walkin' these streets so long
Singin' the same old song
I know every crack in these dirty sidewalks of Broadway
Where hustle's the name of the game
And nice guys get washed away like the snow and the rain
There's been a load of compromising‘
On the road to my horizon
But I'm gonna be where the lights are shinin' on me.

That is it, I know I could feel the words,
There's been a load of compromising

Well, I wish fairy tells came true, and I am sure for 1 in 1000 people, they do find the fairy tale. Maybe this is the bargain we make, we all agree to stand in line, wait our turn, and then God throws the dice, and up pops the lucky seven. Unfortunate for the majority, we throw the dice too many times until we lose it all.
(I doubt my Mother knows how the came of Craps is won or lost, and for this I am grateful.)

I personally would have love to discouraged her, I said,
“Be very careful, Singapore, Hong Kong, Korea, Japan, Dubai and Saudi Arabia will hire you pretty young Filipina girls and suddenly you need to please the boss. You are between a rock and hard spot, and all you wanted was to make money.

I do not believe this, I believe there is a There's been a load of compromising‘ and they know the game.

Nevertheless, we must allow the shell game to be played don’t we, we must allow the stories to be told and we should all agree to nod our heads and pretend it is going to lead this person to where the lights are “shining on them.”

No Bola Bola Zone, I have lost my Indiana innocence, I am not sure I am able to return, it is highly possible I am damaged goods.

I was walking around the corner trying to avoid having water drip on my head; I did not want to be slimed here in Manila too early in the morning the day is starting. I am singing in my head,

“Like a Rhinestone Cowboy.”
What is this, I cannot understand, but I do understand.

Maybe a fake cowboy, Elvis in his old age, like this man, broken and damaged working his way toward nowhere.

There's been a load of compromising‘
On the road to my horizon

Christie is off to get her Moral Cherry Popped.

The words to the song are from Glen Campbell in a song called Rhinestone Cowboy, truly I thought I hated the song and had done my best to ignore it, I guess if found a spot in my brain to reside.

Where am I Verizon BlackBerry and Google Maps
I can never shake the feeling, there is a constant question playing ping-pong in my brain, I want to know
“Where am I?”

I have always been a little lost for the last 11-12 years. Now, thanks to the BlackBerry and Google.com Maps, I know where I am, but I am not sure I am happy.

I just took a bus from Bauang, Philippines in the province of La Union on the island of Luzon to Manila, Philippines. The truth is, I probably was happier not knowing where I was or the route I took to the Malate, Mabini, Ermita area of Metro Manila. I am a little frustrated now with the Bus Conductor.

This is more or less the path I took from Bauang to Manila.

I told the bus conductor,
“Malate.”
“Tell me when to get off for Malate, Ermita…”

I took this photo with my cell phone; I was located at the North end of this gigantic city called Manila, Philippines.

I took the Verizon BlackBerry Storm out of my pocket just north of Manila and got the GPS working. I could then follow my progress by looking at Blue Dot or that big Icon, I have no idea where it came from, and it must be new.

I got on Google Maps and copied a better view of the path we took; I wanted to go to Malate, Ermita in the fastest way possible.

If you look close you can see I am not at the bottom of the Manila bypass.

The Conductor finally decided to let me off when he saw a Jeepney going to Mabini. It was humorous to me, but ignorance is bliss, I truly wish I did not know how I got here to this jeepney pickup. I was asking myself, did he think in term of money or speed. I know the answer. One of the ugly facts of travel, normally the locals do not look at maps, they know the way in a round about way, not by looking at maps, this may very well have been the quickest path to him. On the other hand, I could explain what I believe happened, and I am sure a few of you know what I think. What would have been the best place to depart this bus?

Here is a video I made a few weeks ago on the way to the Clark Airport in Angeles City, Philippines. I truly believe these Google Maps and the BlackBerry with the Verizon Global Data access could replace the guidebooks. The big value here is the internet access to Google.com Maps in 177 plus countries. I can seamless travel around the planet and answer the question.

I should have used this in Bangkok, Thailand. I never know my location and I refuse to try to learn. I can tell you the price of a taxi to Panthip, Mochip Bus stop, the airport, but I cannot point a map and tell you where Khao San Road is located. It just is not important, it is the cost, time and ability to effectively reach my destination that is important.

As you can see, maybe it would be better if I did not know the path I took to my Hotel here in Manila.

However, thank you Verizon BlackBerry Storm and Google.com Maps, I now will never feel lost, only a frustrated.

Philippines is Politically Correct

Philippines is Politically Correct
I cannot put my finger on it, but maybe why I become incredibly annoyed in the Philippines is because they are incredibly PC. They have good manners, but maybe not proper, or are they polite, but no manners, I know one thing, nobody wants to hear my true opinions...

This applies to the Expat culture here, the same as the Filipino culture, there is just a small gray line that separates them.

I feel that people, who are too polite, too correct, too zealous in making sure nobody is offended are liars. Everything is always diplomatic, always polite, however in my gut, I feel there are no manners and life is not proper.

Politeness to a fault…. Hehehe

I am slowly realizing, I never am able to attain an intimate, honest relationship with a Filipino person. However, in reality, I am never able to stop the double talk, misrepresented and agenda orientated Expats either, they seem to blend in with the Philippine people, I would say that like kind associate with like kind.

Yes, it is warming, feels good for a month or two, but after awhile I long for a conversation where I know the person is genuine.

A politician can be incredibly charismatic, warm and cuddly, generous to a fault and the biggest crook on the planet at the same time.

Hmm, how do you detect the PC people in a room?

They are easily annoyed with honest statements, they refuse to listen to comments they disagree with, they enforce delusional beliefs.

I would talk about "toxic shame," and how growing up Catholic makes a person feel guilty. However, in reality this is the effetive effect of religions, they fail to make people happy, but they do make people feel guilty. Then again people do not help, the never stop sinning.

Goodbye Baguio Have a Nice Life

Goodbye Baguio Have a Nice Life
I meet many people on Planet Earth, we become friends, we share some laughs, and a very few, when I am ready to leave, I walk up, shake their hands and say,
“Thanks, Goodbye, have a great life.”
(I told Jan I am leaving and JD)

I leave Monday for Manila, I am two inches from leaving the Philippines. I will leave the Philippines around October 21, 2009 going to the USA to visit and then onward to anywhere but there. Funny, a month is nothing for me as a traveler, and a week is a vacation to most.

I seldom say goodbye to people, I long ago accepted that they do not care about me, and I do not care about them, we are just two passing trains blowing our horns. However, I do wish good will towards all people, even the good, the bad, and the ugly.

I wish to say goodbye to Baguio, I hope the place has a nice life, I do not believe I have a reason to ever return. I am clumping Baguio, Bauang, San Fernando, La Union in the same basket.

Map showing where Baguio and Bauang are located.

I have to accept my age, I enjoy spending time with people from age 25-35 and because everyone my own age is older than me it annoys me. I am 53 and I just cannot relate to someone my own age, I relate to 27-year-old people. The average age of Baguio or Bauang Expats has to be 63 about the age of living Vietnam Vets. The youngest Expat I personally met was 35; this is over the edge old in the traveler world.

We must accept who we are, and HOPEFULLY others accept that others have the right to be different and like something different. I do not need to like a place, or dislike a place. This area of the world could be heaven for a divorced male, disabled Veteran from the USA who loves to play pool and has a pension. It would be hell for a female from any country.

I still see myself as having a job, even though I work less than most retired people around me, I want to continue to live a life.

The lesson I learned a great lesson in Baguio, Alan a Brit reminded me about,
“Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.”

Rio, I should go back to Rio and look around.

I rather laughed; in the end, he left Brazil to come to a place where he is a big fish and small pond. Yes, we must all choose our playpens and our playmates, this is wise, and there is a place where everyone belongs.

I want to spend my life hanging around with people who refuse to die. I did not have enough money to enjoy Rio on my first trip their, I think I can ante up now; maybe this place is worth another look.

Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

I want to hang around, work on my websites in fun places like Rio and then go enjoy the cultural travel in Africa, this is my dream life.

Living is an Adventure, it is not for everyone.

Etymology of Phrase Ugly American

Etymology of Phrase Ugly American
Mark says, the term “Ugly American” should be against the WikiPedia.org rules of acceptable use, I do not know, maybe they call it the TOS, terms of service. I was telling him on a Skpe.com call that I am going to write something again about the Book and Movie called
“The Ugly American.”

The quandary of whether this term should be included in Wikipedia.org now has my attention first, is it fair game to use this term in Wiki? There are two links on the Encyclopedia Wikipedia.org site, one of for the book and the other is for the term.

Mark says,
“The term “Ugly American” should not be in Wiki.”
I laugh,
“The Wiki is full of Germans who want to get back at the USA.”

Well, this is good; the Wiki does have Euro Trash.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurotrash_(term)

WIKI SHOULD ALSO INCLUDE
It does not have “Brits Abroad.” or “Canadian Flag Wavers,” or the best yet, “Germans in Rubber Pants.” Gee, it should include for sure the “Brits Abroad.”

All these phrases are analogous to the “Ugly American,” in usage, I use them all the time, I for sure use Euro Trash, I enjoy stereotypes, it dis-enables the power the European mental midgets believe they have over me… People call you a name, you defend yourself, but the only true way is quid pro quo, you need to give them back the same.

I more or less decided about five years ago, I had enough of my what I call my “Mean Older Brother.” I truly have no need to associate with the “Brits Abroad,” who have a chronic case of “Take the Piss,” truly an annoying idiosyncrasy and prevalent in “Brits Abroad.”
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Take_the_piss

BOOK
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Ugly_American

TERM
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ugly_American

The Encarta dictionary defines "Ugly American" as stereotypical offensive American: a loud, boorish, nationalistic American, especially one traveling abroad, who is regarded as conforming to a stereotype that gives Americans a bad reputation.

In contrast, Dictionary.com defines "the Ugly American" as: Pejorative term for Americans traveling or living abroad who remain ignorant of local culture and judge everything by American standards.

Fun stuff this “Ugly American” term and closely related to racism, but not the same. Anyone who uses the terms the “Ugly American” needs to take great care, or they will expose just how stupid they are, I can tell instantly whether they have read the book.

Why am I talking about this, well, the stereotype of loud, boorish Americans does exist. There are archetypes for this behavior in a few major groups.

1. US Military Abroad
2. United States Embassy People.
3. Non Governmental Agencies
4. Missionaries from USA
5. The lovely youth of the USA going to Europe as Backpackers.

The Etymology of the Archetypes that created these stereotypes is my muse; I need to visit more and more countries until I know how the world works… Hehehe.

TMI - Too Much Information
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archetypes

WARNING
Use this phrase the “Ugly American” with great care, if you are going to use it, please read the book and watch the movie first. I just purchased the Movie on Amazon.com, I have been waiting for years to see this movie by accident, and I am forcing the issue.

I feel and believe “a truly ugly person” is a person who does not know, who thinks they know, more or less they talk in an authoritative voice when it should be passive. (Probably describes me.)

Hmm, note that is truly bad manners to make generalized stereotypical comments directly at one person. This implies that the person encapsulates the stereotype. It is not acceptable to sit around with Brits talking about “Brits Abroad.” On the other hand, I am not prone to sitting around with Brits unless they can be proper, have some good form and stop “Taking the Piss.”

Someday, I will understand more about the Stereotype of Germans in Rubber pants, and why this is a stereotype. I will wait until Wiki decides to include, all if fair game when we start down this slippery path.

Jack a Canadian told me the best advice,
“Andy, remember, many countries lost wars to the USA, they want payback.”

I am going to watch the movie on about October 25, I will then revisit this subject with more zest, armed with more and more stereotypes misuse, abuse and provoke you brain from sleep mode to run, many of you are sleeping, wake up, feel the flowers.

There is nothing better to wake a sleeping brain than to use words in a twisted manner, truly a joy to a person who wants to talk. Truly an annoyance when the PC Police - "Politically Correct Police" catch us. Heaven forbid I misspell a word, that would be a sin, or include a sentence fragment, you would have to take your mind of cruise, step on the brake, wake up!

This is a video me (Andy) in the travelers nest I created in the Philippines. The room cost 12-14 U.S. Dollars per night. This is an attempt to prove to you that “life is good,” and I do not live like a bum.

Some of you are hung up on this word Hobo, and miss the plot, my goal of travel is to enjoy my life, and I do not torture myself. This place is a little better than other Hotels, but in my opinion very expensive. I think the price of the room for one month according to global standards should be eight dollars. Apartments in Bauang rent for about 8000-10,000 pesos per month.
