Love Enhancement Drug in 7-11

Love Enhancement Drug in 7-11
7:30 am, I walked into the 7-11 diagonally across from my Hotel called the Stone House here in Malate, Manila. I buy a pop, thought to myself,
“The air conditioning here is good; I can sit at the bench in front of the window and relax, check my emails on the BlackBerry by Verizon and enjoy life.”

This is Abdul; he is an Islamic man that brought his family here from the Island or Province of Mindanao in the South of the Philippines. I think he said his city is Zamboanga. This is close to Jolo and a maybe a hotbed of Islamic terrorist problems.

I asked him why he brought his wife and three children to Manila. He said,
“There are lots of problems in Mindanao.”

Zamboanga, Mindanao is a long way from Manila, and in my opinion, Abdul screwed up by coming here. Manila is the place where many people from the Provinces come to look for money.

He put this box up to the window of the 7-11 convenience store in the SNAFU manner of the Philippines. I thought to myself,
“I am safe, I am inside, and there is a cop at the door.”

I look at my Verizon BlackBerry, emails are downloading and making this clinging noise, there is too much concrete inside the Stone House and no signal, I will move today.

I look up and Abdul has sat down next to me, I know my time is limited, I know this scenario, and he will never leave.

He never left, I finally needed to leave.

Well, what the hell, I decide to turn this moment of annoyance into a human-interest story.

I do not know much about this drug; however hear the word on every corner here in the Malate / Ermita area of Manila. He wanted 1500 Peso for 20 pills, and then went down to 1200 slowly.

I got up and walked slowly back to the Hotel, Abdul was a good guy in ways, just wanted to feed his family. To slime stars above normal, not the worst of the bunch. I gave him 20 Pesos because I took a photo, he did not ask for money for the Photo.

I am walking towards the door, he says,
“300 Pesos.”

When a Philippines man ask me to buy this drug, I normally say,
“I don’t need this, do you?”

There is obviously a market for this drug here in Manila, it is offered to me on every corner. I suppose all the old men around here have a desire to be young again, they always say,
“You are only as old as the women you date.”

Ok, enough of the jokes for today, however Abdul needs some money for food for his family, he does have a job and I respect that.

I was told by my friend the Spy that the USA has special forces down in Mindanao whacking Islamic Terrorist. He said the war in Iraq and Afghanistan distracted the Press, while the Press focused on Iraq, the USA special forces could do their jobs in other countries better. The strategy is to kill strategic leaders around the planet, I do hope he is telling me the truth, there are a few too many trouble makers walking the planet lately.

Water Fountain in Thailand

Water Fountain in Thailand
Is the water safe to drink in Thailand, the developed world is paranoid about drinking the water. My answer for Thailand is no do not drink the water, my answer for Ethiopia is yes unless obvious problems.

Thailand has finally made the Water Fountains work in their Airport that is impossible to pronounce or spell. It is rare to find a water fountain in any country outside the USA, it is more or less a USA phenomenon

The underdeveloped countries strive to be developed, in my opinion one of the world’s misguided goals. Thailand has a highly developed shopping center, highway system, electric system and one of the worst water and sewer systems on the planet.

Generally, most countries can clean the water and if you sample the water at the Water Tower or Water Plant, you would find safe water. The problem is the distance from the water plant to the housing, along this path the water becomes contaminated.

I enjoy this postulation, I enjoy observing water, and I even more than this, I enjoy the inability of the populace, sometimes called the “Rabble,” by Rene Descartes to make decisions in an environment that changes.

Water is analogous to crime, there are good neighborhoods and there are bad, you need to pay attention. If you are gathering water from the source, it should be cleaner than water pumped through miles of water lines.

Do not drink the water; it is the only safe decision that will protect you in a world that is not all the same. It is a little misguided to say,
“The Water in the USA is safe to drink.”

I am 100 percent sure there are places where it is not.

However, safe is a funny word, I have drank the water in 85 countries and I have not died.

I enjoy the perception game Thailand plays in the Airport; they install water fountains, set up complicated purification systems inside the airport and give the perception that Thailand has clean water.

Saudi Employment for Filipinos

Saudi Employment for Filipinos
I met a girl by the name of Aya who is applying for a nurses jobs in Saudi Arabia. Many Philippines people work overseas, and in the Malate area of Manila there are many Employment Agencies with lines of people making applications.

Aya is a nurse, not a caregiver, she is 21 and will be 22 in a month or two, she is staying with family here in Manila. She wants to find an employment agency that specializes in Nurses, maybe in Saudi Arabia.

I walked into a Mini Mart, expecting to find a Nescafe Ice Coffee and found a Chill instead. There was no solo seats left, so I ask her if I could sit down at her table, my back is killing me, this sciatic nerve problem works against my travels.

Aya appears naïve, never had a paying job, and said she worked in a Hospital for six months with no pay. She said,
“I need to earn money for my family.”

However, she also said,
“Saudi pays nothing, only about 14,000 Peso per month.”

I am not going to explain in great detail; however it always makes me nervous when a girl from the provinces of the Philippines shows up in Manila. There are many unsavory businesses here in Manila that are looking for genuine, young and silly girls. I was in the Mini Mart just across from the large new entrance to Robinsons Mall; I was on my way to the ATM machine inside the mall.

This area is permeated with people up to no good, in a way I was trying to encourage her to go back to the provinces.

This work overseas is something close to indentured servants, often employers in Hong Kong, Singapore, Korea, Japan, Dubai and other countries will employ a person from the Philippines. I think for the men this is generally good work; however for the women it can be a situation where their employer puts them in between a rock and a hard place.

There were or are many Philippines men working in Iraq setting up tents for the soldiers, I am not sure I agree with this, but it is an “America Way.”

The employer holds the girl, their job, their visa, the money the girl is sending back to their family under their control. This type of control is abused by these employers in these countries.

Pretty much, put out, or we make your life miserable.

She was a genuinely nice girl, fun to talk with; however, I could not get her to stop calling me “Sir.”
“Hello Sir,”
“Thank you Sir.”
“How are you Sir?”

There is a culture of saying “Sir” here in the Philippines, that is truly enjoyable after spending a month in Thailand where ignoring is the current fashion or trend.

Alcohol Stoves are Easy

Alcohol Stoves are Easy
There is nothing difficult about cooking with Alcohol, that is a no brainer, hack of the bottom one inch of any can, fill it with alcohol and you can cook.

What is difficult is making a cook stand that works, that is light, sturdy and easy to pack. This guy below seems to say a coat hanger works. I can tell you one thing, I am going to keep my eyes open for one of them extra strong ones you find once in a while.

The last problem is to not burn up the floor.

I never cook outside, but cooking in the shower daily, alcohol sucks outdoors, too windy.

Smelting Pot of Undesirables

Smelting Pot of Undesirables
I met up with a friend of mine I met about four years ago in the Malate neighborhood of, Manila, Philippines.

I said,
“Jim, what happened here, where are all the expats?”

He said,
“I think they left the country.”

There used to be many regular type men in this area of the Philippines, this for sure is not a good country for girls, close to horrible.

I said,
“What happened to Manila?”

He said,
“A Smelting Pot of Undesirables.”

I started to laugh, and said,
“Yes, the wanted and the unwanted.”

I have had many laughs in Manila, I am sad, I used to know maybe 10-15 people in this area, more or less Rogue Travelers, people who do what they want, when they want. My prior friends were the wanted, now they have been replaced by the unwanted. I would rather associate with the wanted than the unwanted.

I am sad, I continually learn the world changes, and there is no location that stays the same. There are moments in time when the sun is shining and they areas tend to move into the ice ages. There is close to zero reason to settle down and stay in any one country, better to just roam the planet.

Should I Keep Backpack Ideas Secret

Should I Keep Backpack Ideas Secret
It is contradictory to my character to keep secrets, in fact, I consider secretive people highly dysfunctional. However, I have been secretive about my ideas for backpack design.

Well, the debate in my mind is over, there will be no secrets; I will not wait until I produce a backpack to reveal it or show the design.

I believe I have been worried about people stealing the design, I finally have accepted that is a silly worry. I really do not care if they steal the design, what I really want is that they do not steal my money. I realized I have enough money; I do not need to worry about them stealing my money.

On the other hand, the goal of the Windmill Backpack is to make the perfect backpack; the whole design needs to come under continuous scrutiny. I need continuous criticism, I need to weather the storm, and consider every idea.

Here is a work in progress directory; I will soon be publishing the designs idea for the backpack, with the rather tedious list of pros and cons. People will be able to submit links and comments.

Note, there is some Hobo and Traveler culture, rules of being a good traveler that says we need to help each other. You can always spot a traveler; they are normally willing to help.

How to Enjoy every Country

How to Enjoy every Country
I have never done this, but I know it would work.

Two Week Rule of thumb.

If you want to enjoy every country you visit.

1. Never stay in one country more than two weeks.

2. Stay in Five Star Hotels.

3. Do not take public transportation, only take private tourist transportation.

4. Pay a lot of money for your trip.

I have known for years that tourist love countries for simple reasons.

1. Tourist are not in the country long enough to get annoyed.

2. They do not live in the country, they live in a Five Star Hotel in the country, not the country, I am positive the locals do not live in Five Star conditions.

3. Their transportation works, it functions and it is comfortable designed special to all the tourist to avoid the conditions of the country.

4. If you pay a lot of money, a person normally does not have the ego and emotional strength to tell everyone, include themselves.
“I made a bad decision.”

Bottom line, go live in a Five Star Hotel and look out the window, stay less that two weeks so you do not get to understand the country, after two weeks you slowly begin.

Final, never return to the same country.

Copying versus New Ideas

Copying versus New Ideas
New and novel ideas, I do wish people would try to be themselves instead of copying the rest of the group. There must have been one person with a new idea, and then 10 million other people copied. I do not find people to be different and unique, I find them annoying the same.

I am intrigued with musing around, perusing around the concept of how people make decisions. I like to study the reasoning skills of people, as I tend to believe the majority make bad decisions.

I have been having tremendous design problems on the Windmill Backpack, mainly because the company making the backpack has nothing to copy. I have heard at least a dozen times,
“If you gave us a bag to copy.”

Hmm, I would not need them to make the bag, it would already be done.

There is this need of people, they want to copy, they do not dream about inventing something new. I really do not care to invent, and would easily copy if I could find more ideas to copy. I have needs; I suppose I have annoying needs after 10 years of travel. The small inconsequential problems when I started traveling, are not become huge thorns in my side.

Example, I do carry a guidebook, I want the guidebook on the outside of the pack. I also need a one to two liter bottle of water connected to my bag. If the guidebook or bottle of water is not connected, I will lose them, and trust me, losing your only bottle of water on a long trip, or losing your guidebook on long trip is not a good experience.

Water is a need, and so is a guidebook, I suppose the guidebook is only a need if I wish to save money. If you want to save money, you need a guidebook, if nothing else but to help you find the lowest prices of rooms so you can see if you can get cheaper. You need a frame of reference, you must know a starting target price to really get a great value.

Well, I am trying to make a pocket on the outside of the bag, which will hold a large guidebook and a two-liter bottle of water. There is no pocket to copy that works, mainly because I do not want packets on the outside of the bag.

I do not want pockets on the outside, however I want two pockets. I have invented a pocket that expands from being flat to being a large pocket.

I know the majority of people reading my blog believe the bag they purchased does the job, they believe they made a good buy, their bags is very good. Yet, the truth is, they just copied what they believe they should have, what would happen if they saw a new idea that was better.

Are there new ideas; are there new ideas that are better?

I continuously find new ideas, or discover ideas I have never heard of before, this is fun.

There are people who see or feel a need, they view this need or want as a problem, being that they now have problem, they search for a solution.

The art of travel is to solve one need, the problem is this, you need money to travel, and therefore how does a person earn money and travel at the same time.

I dream of new ideas, of new ways to live, new ways to enjoy my life, I only have one life, I want to enjoy it, I do not want to make a copy.

Have you ever invesnted a new idea?
