Jobs Abroad
A person should be careful when choosing a Jobs Abroad; I have learned that Tourist Cities do not make good homes.

I slowly understand myself and accept that I have a Job Abroad, and I work at this Job Abroad. I travel to a new city and live in the city for a short time working on my Jobs Abroad.

I now know the purely Tourist Cities are not good cities for living, I can recognize good cities for living or for having Jobs Abroad when there is a large number of Expats who live as a community.

I must have friends that do not continually leave as they do in Tourist cities like Cusco, Peru.

I think this is one reason why Manila, Philippines is nice; there are always many of my old friends to visit.

The desire for old friends that do not leave is important when a person has a Jobs Abroad. I do not like to admit it, but I do have a Job Abroad, and that is blog and making web pages, where I live abroad has to be thought about better.

I have a few long-term projects like this Windmill Backpack, and I need to take great care in where I decide to manufacture the bag. I do not want to work on my Job Abroad in a city I do not like; there is no reason to travel to a city you do not like and live.

Even though I may only live for 10 days to 90 days in the city, I must remember to choose cities I like, and for sure when it is an extreme tourist city remember they are not good choices for Jobs Abroad.

Gmap-Track.com Track a Mobile Phone
A good friend of mine Steve explained a site that allows a person to know where a person is by tracking their cell phone.

I have signed up; however, I need to have an internet connection on my cell phone to download the program. After I have installed the program and turn it on, a person would able to go to pages like the one below and know where I am located.

When I return to Thailand I will download the program over the GPRS connection.

This is probably a great way to track your children.

Fly Cusco to Lima Peru

Fly Cusco to Lima Peru
I fly from Cusco, Peru to Lima, Peru on Tuesday, June 17, 2008, I hope to find a Hotel with WIFI Wireless Internet called Inalabrico in Spanish.

I paid 92 U.S. Dollars and purchased a one-way ticket online with StarPeru.com, this seems to ten time better than the Cusco Travel Agents, really losing interest in Travel Agents.

I am trying to buy a Spiritair.com ticket to the USA, however cannot seem to access the site here in Cusco, I think they have it blocked, forcing people to buy from other airlines. I will try in an internet café today and make another internet doe not have it blocked. This is really corruption in my mind, and not good business, but welcome to Cusco, Peru.

The road from Bangkok to Siem Reap, Cambodia is never repaired and they receive money from the airlines to keep bad, the new type of corruption of the planet, now blocking of internet sites is becoming the way.

I will fly to USA for a week, then fly onto Thailand to go to the Doctors there to try to figure out what is wrong with my kidney area of my body. I hope to fly to Africa from Bangkok after making two proper backpacks.

Doing Good Work

Doing Good Work
I cannot be bothered with people who do not strive to improve their skills.

I cannot be bothered with people who are perfectionist and never start or finish anything because they refuse to look stupid.

I strive for perfection, it is long tedious battle, I can never stop trying to improve, I never am able to just stop and say,
“the job is done.” The road to perfection never ends.

I continuously try to find ways to beautify, clean, lay out, and make the HoboTraveler.com and HoboHideOut.com sites function better. I am not good at making pretty pages on the Internet, it is not what I do best, however the sites are a lot better than when I started 10 years ago.

I realized yesterday, I cannot be bothered with my Bag Maker here in Cusco, he just doe not strive to do a good job. He tries to placate me, make me happy, he will say many things, yet he never gets anything done. I like the man; however, he just is not responsible. However, what is worst he does not improve, he just stays the same.

It is very tiring to design this backpack; there are 906 variables I am trying to incorporate into the bag. How to give make a bag that is adaptable to the person. For example, one person want wheels, the other does not, can I make a bag that is both? Many people want a small bag, lightweight; however, there are times when a person needs a bigger bag.

I went to Nepal, entered into Tibet in November, the amount of clothing we purchased and needed to carry to keep warm added 30 percent more volume to my bag. To just tie all this stuff on the outside of a bag is not the best answer, however that is what we had to do more or less, there was no choice.

Well, to try to think through how to solve all these real life travel problems is a test of will, to not just accept solutions that do not work. I must dwell on problems, try solutions, test the bags, and then see what I can make up.

I do not accept a bag that does not work, therefore the reason I have made about 12 bags of different designs, try to find the proper combinations that optimize the bag.

I find the formula is this.

Backpack Formula

Design +
Person to sew the bag +
Raw Materials +
Equals a Bag

I believe I found the solutions to Raw Materials in the last few days, I can buy the top quality fabrics I need, I can buy the top quality clips, and other hardware I need. I have found my dream zipper hasp padlock slider and zippers, I can now buy them.

I feel I have 95 percent perfected a design; I will need to test the new design before I can remove the last 4-5 percent of problems.

I need a person to sew the bag. This is two levels; the first is to make three example bags, two for me to use, and one for me to keep as an example. I have decided this job must be done by me; I need to find a sewing machine and work on the bag myself. A person sewing can copy a bag; however, they cannot create a bag.

I am sad to think how many tailor types, how many people who sew just have a job, they do not have the desire to improve or do the best job, they just want to make something then get paid, no desire for the thrill of creating something special.

I have worked with so many people who continuously do bad work, I hope to one day find a solution to this problem, somewhere on the planet I will accidentally find a company or a few people who can do great quality work. It saddens me to know that the majority of people on the planet never have the thrill of doing great work; they always are happy to just do ok, to get their paycheck and go drink beer.

The people of the world do not need help; they get out of life exactly what they deserve, no more, no less.

Travel Agents Versus Purchase Online

Travel Agents Versus Purchase Online
I continually try to use Travel Agents, however, they just are not competing with buying tickets online.

1 in 20 Travel Agent actual gives advice, the rest just wants to take orders from naïve people, that means I need to visit 20 travel agents to find one with the lights on.

I went to a three Travel Agents here in Cusco, Peru; they all just gave me one price of 121 for the 25 to fly to Lima, Peru. I finally realized there was no thinking here, they just do as I say, they said,
“This is the cheapest ticket you can get.”

I went back home, got on StarPeru.com and purchased one online for 92 U.S. Dollars, what is the point in talking with them, there is not a brain attached.

I now suspect there is no such thing as an Air Consolidators Travel Agents, I think they airlines just dump on Travelocity.com and Kayak.com or other big sites.

WARNING --- I think they are also blocking some Airfare internet sites, I cannot get one Spiritair.com here, the Aero Condor site does not even allow me to choose Cusco to Lima, The other day I was on the internet inside and airport and they had Travelocity.com blocked.

What this means, when you come to a very popular travel destination city like Cusco, Peru, it may really be a TRAP, a complete gouge you Tourist Trap. I have notice many times that certain Airfare sites are being blocked.

Buying Backpack Parts from the USA

Buying Backpack Parts from the USA
I have 90 percent given up on buying any Backpack Parts or Fabrics from outside the USA. The quality and availability is horrible, there is a reason why Made in the USA sells, or even sold in the USA, you can trust the vendors.

The problem is not the materials, I think there are quality materials sold in most of these countries, the problem is the people. They have never done or seen a high quality work performed, therefore believe junk is very good.

It does not help that the majority of buyers of backpacks have no ability to judge a good backpack from a bad backpack. Tending to only buy many pockets, webbing, and toys. They will not wear the bag out in a three-month trip, or realize the problems.

This means backpack is made for looks, not to be used, so there is no demand for high quality materials, zippers or clips.

I have found the YKK Zipper in the USA, I have also found the Fabrics I need, and they could be delivered to my home. I could sit in the USA and make this back ten times better quality.

I am wondering if I should just sit on Skype.com, call all the Vendors and have top quality materials sent to a location in the USA. I do know, if I had all the materials, sitting on top of these low quality and cheap workers, I would have a bag, because I would be the quality control.

Visiting the Same Place Twice

Visiting the Same Place Twice
I will not return to the same Tourist Trap twice, I am writing a mental note in the back of my brain to stop, I shall only return to places where I have many friends, like in the Philippines, maybe Thailand.

Returning to a Tourist Destination such as Cusco or Machu Picchu is just a rerun, and rather boring.

This is a nice city, the people are nice, however I do not have any friends, this is Quechua or New Generation of too cool to be Quechua. There is no real expat community, this is a daily rerun of a new people entering the hotel, and then they leave to go on the Inca Trail the next day. The prices of places like Cusco has been so inflated, most long-term travelers would it find uncomfortably expensive to return, they are not just hanging out in Cusco, Peru.

The Hotel I am in presently six years ago was a cheap backpacker hotel, now Cusco has Tourist inflated their prices to a level where nobody is hanging around for more than a couple of days.

Tourism is about money, people who work in the tourist industry seem to always be preoccupied with optimizing their money to a uncomfortable point. They everything over the edge, about 20 percent higher than people would comfortable pay and not think about it.

I tend to believe a Hotel, Hospedaje, Posada, etc. that is not 100 percent full in a tourist area is over priced.

The bottom line is this, a person should only return to place where they have collected a lot of locals emails as friends, or expats, there is no reason to see a tourist attraction city such as Cusco or Machu Picchu twice.

I came to modify my backpacks.

Coffee Filters Clean Waters

Coffee Filters Clean Waters
A person can buy Water Purifying Systems, they have filters and you pump the water through the filter. I have never seen anybody on planet earth carry one for longer than three months before they stopped using them.

Example of Water Purification Systems

Buying water is easier than using these systems, however, expensive, about 3 US Dollars per day to drink three liters, I have trouble believing countries can be so cruel as to not provide free waters to their people.

I do not buy water often, I would just as soon die early, however I have started to boil water, I am slowing perfecting a system to boil water, and I also boil the purified water, because I do not trust companies that bottle water. I will soon make another video explaing a simple system to boil water for drinking, however today I was excited.

Coffee Filters, I can replace the sock system.

Buying them stupid filters for all the silly water purification systems above is close to impossible, I do not return home, they do not see them anywhere on the planet.

However, coffee filters, they do sell them anywhere on the planet for the most part, sometimes difficult, and maybe cheesecloth, whatever that is?

I can stop with the sock idea and move up to the coffee filter, there is no such thing as perfectly safe water, there is water that optimized for safety. I truly trust boiling water more than I trust a bottle of purified water. Getting the water to cool is the biggest problem with boiling.

Note, I would still just continue to drink the water, it has not killed me in 10 years of travel, and I have drunk the water in every country. However, I am starting to think that drinking the water causes my immune system to work overtime, I think maybe it will work less if I boil the water.

I need a water testing laboratory to send samples, if you know of a water testing laboratory in the USA that can do this job, please click on contact an write Andy of HoboTraveler.com. I am wanting to test the water around the world.
