I am learning to accept that I live outside the USA, and that is ok, my desire to return to the USA and live is ending. My commitment to live traveling is increasing, I enjoy this life, it has many bumps, and overall, I am a lucky man.

What has happened is this, I continually learn ways to avoid the unhappy groups of people on the planet, and how to enjoy the simple living their lives, enjoying their lives groups. I stopped watching CNN, BBC and any other news channel, more or less just read some headlines on this World New Page.

Moving on past old resentments, frustrations is difficult, however learning to keep my mouth shut has helped. I tend to just avoid people who do not smile, recognize controversial comments, and try not to reply, I am still working on this, but I am ten times better than I was ten years ago when I started traveling.
There is something about humans that like a soap opera, they like controversy, we like to argue. The search for the truth is not the goal, people seem to search for validations of the opinions they already have, not to find the truth, and this causes arguments.

This concept, or statement,
“The truth will set your free,”
This is true, free from arguments if both people are searching for truth.

There are truths in the world; I have continued to find universal truths that guide my day, for example.
“Talk to people that smile.”
“Walking helps me to understand the world I live in better than reading.”
“People like honest people.”
“The less I do, the happier I am.”
“Poor people are happier than Rich people.”

I sometime feel like I have been going though the Five Stage of Grief, and have reached an acceptance,
“It is ok to travel for the rest of my life.”

Five Stages of Grief
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K%C3%BCbler-Ross_model

Typing into this blog is both fun and a pain in the butt, there are some rewards, however overall, the biggest reward has been to talk to myself and reconcile, recognize, and realize who I am and what I am doing. There is this fantasy about travel, that is hogwash, travel is not glamorous, unless maybe you are a multi-millionaire, then you can afford to live in luxury. There is no fame to travel, I try not to not meet, and do not meet people who respect me because of this blog, or my web sites, the people I meet take me as the meet me, I am no more, or no less than just a person in the same Hotel, or on the same Bus.

I am equal with the world, I try to live as the same status and social level as the common people, and this is relaxing. I never thought about how competitive the USA is or the world in general, until I stepped outside my culture. Competition for status is the root of evil in a way; it is the coveting of what other have, to wish we were better than the people around us, this is a sin.

To stop this competition is an onerous task; I had to leave my culture long enough whereby I forgot to fight back. When I meet USA or Europeans I am tempted to enter into their mess, I am good at competing, and I can win, however the loser is both of the people competing. I am winning more now, because I do not enter into the competition as often, I still slip.

Now I compete with myself, this is my happiness today; I have been striving to make a great backpack to share with the world, to try to really do something special, something that really makes good sense.

I also strive to make a Travel Room or Hotel site that helps the hotel and the people who want to live in the hotels. I am making a site that helps me to find a room, truly a transparent and up-front internet page that allows people to find the answers they seek with the least amount of interference, it is not about money, however that is nice, it is the reward of doing a good thing that is needed.

I know I have family that love me, I have many friends, I have people who respect me, I have people who hate me, life is normal.

The world is a safe place, this is good, a little boring at time, too many cell phones and cars, however better than too many guns and dictators, the world is obsessed with fashions and their soap opera lives.

I sometime feel like Howard Hunt, as he tried to isolate himself from people, I do feel a need to leave the world, to stay away from others, and I do feel like a hermit some of the days. I enjoy simple people, I am learning to accept that competition is not a great thing, unless it the competition I have in myself to care more, to feel more, to strive to do the best I can, to be the best person I can be today.

I am like an onion, I keep tearing away the layers, there were layers of things I needed to be happy, I find the more the layers are removed, the less I need to be happy. In the past, I protected myself by a façade of possessions and accomplishments. I realize this is fools gold, there is nobody that cares, the only person I need to keep happy today is me, the rest of the world has their job to perform, doing what they believe they should do to be happy.

I do hope they are not too busy today, I am not, note if you read all of this and got to the end, you are probably able to enjoy the time given to you, to live your life, it is finite, and we do die.

Life is Good

I Am Happy

Vancouver Political Correctness Capital of World

Vancouver Political Correctness Capital of World
Vancouver, Canada has been nominated by a friend of mine for the Political Correctness Capital of World. Meaning to me,
“The last place I want to visit on the planet…”

“Political correctness is a term used to describe language, ideas, policies, or behavior seen as seeking to minimize offense to gender, racial, cultural, disabled, aged or other identity groups.”
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_correctness

Too funny, I was laughing when he told me, and I am still laughing and for sure, any backpack with a Canadian Flag on it would love hear this.

Political correctness is just a way for people with no control, to try to control those who will listen. Alternatively, maybe the taxi driver here in Lima is correct, take care, beware the Chico, Chicas.

What happens is this, a weak person says,
“You are controlling.”
Therefore to be open-minded and helpful, allowing the wimp to not be dominated by everyone or anything, this makes sense, you take more care not to accidentally dominate. Next thing you know, you are listening and giving credence to the wimps idea, de facto giving the wimp control.

Beware people who say you are controlling, they want control. hehehe People give control to others, they cannot take it.

Scared in the Grocery Store

Scared in the Grocery Store
Walked up to the Cash Register in Lima, Peru, the neighborhood of Jesus, Maria, a large modern grocery store, looked over just at eye level at these bottles and thought,
“Wow, so many bottles to open inside my bag.”

This is a frightening photo to me, I instantly got nervous, these quick open lids just make me worried, they do just that, they open quick inside my backpack…

Gatorade or Toothpaste, which is worst?

Hmm Is Lima Peru Safe

Hmm Is Lima Peru Safe
I do not trust what I hear, I do not trust what I read, I for sure do not trust what I see on Television, and for sure, TV news is the most unreal reality of the world.
However, I tend to believe there is a reason for all this security in Lima, Peru.

These four rows of electrical wire around the top of a fence surround the front of a day care center in Lima, Peru.

I think a loose translation is,
“Stop, we are living vigilant.”

Lima is improving, there are cars parked on the road, not inside a fortress at night, the people are nice, however, Lima, Peru has some problems as does most Latino Countries. I am in an upper middle class neighborhood, there are no tourist to rob therefore I believe safer.

Backpack - I am Tilting at Windmills

Backpack
When a person wakes from a dream, and finds they are not in a dream, this is satisfaction. This Windmill Backpack, my Tilting at Windmills, the will to fight my imaginary giants is finding the path, to stay the course.

I wrote my friend, saying,
“The Windmills are spinning in the Wind.”
He replies,

Andy,
I have never doubted that miracles happen. Some people are just too dumb to give up.

Gary

People with a desire to earn money never seem to find what they are looking for, when you search for perfection, life has meaning.

I have found the fabrics, zippers, the hardware to make the final sample bag; they have delivered it to my home in Indiana. I will fly to Thailand, buy a sewing machine, maybe take over a tailor shop, make this final prototype of the bag myself, so all the measuring, cutting and design work working until I am finished.

I will do some test, run the bag by a few smart people, then make the modification necessary, this could take from one week to three months, depending on the problems I encounter.

I have found three companies in the Philippines that are willing to do a run of 100 bags. I will fly to meet them soon, hope they have the right perspective I need to make an ideal bag. If all goes well, I can order the materials needed to make these bags, have them sent to the Philippines and I can make the bags.

I talked yesterday with a fulfillment company, this is a company that will warehouse a product, and then send it out to buyers as the orders are received. This company is in Traverse City, Michigan, which is close enough to Indiana, Chicago, Airport, Detroit, Airport, whereby I can stop in and check easy enough. Fill Request for Orders

The recommended one of three Shopping Carts to put on my website to process orders, these are already integrated into their system. This would make the systematic process of selling and delivering the bag a possibility for a world traveler who does not live in the USA.

Ultra Cart 3D Cart Yahoo Stores

This stuff can be quite boring, however, I have never met a long-term traveler that did not find some great things for sale in other countries. They then think to themselves,
“How could I continue to travel and sell these to my country?”

I am putting together a very large puzzle that involves many countries, people, places and things. I just choose each piece of he puzzle with care, look at it, then make a good decision on where to place the piece, hoping they all fit together peacefully. I know there is nothing easy about this, I know to make this all work seamlessly requires just what my friend Gary said a person who is,
“Just to dumb to give up.”

Time to put in your two cents and help put together the puzzle, do not get hung up on the word Backpack, this is type of luggage, all are invited to explain their ideas on how to make a bag for travel.

Finding the Desire to Write

Finding the Desire to Write
I read an blog post by Fred Wilson today, it helped me to learn about Bloggers, maybe wanna be writers.

I think he misses the point…
Where To Go For Inspiration?

There is natural writing, there is inspired writing, and there are people who get paid to write. The people who write for money are more the drone writers, they write as agreed, like a kiss from your grandmother on the cheek, not a first kiss from the love of your life.

I think a person has to ask themselves,
“Am I boring myself?”
If the answer is yes, then what are you doing?

I know I bore readers of this blog, nonetheless, I am true to myself, I do not type information onto this computer that bores me, I would hate to have my worst critic be bored.

There is no need to write, it is a want.

I think writing for money is a recipe for failure, talking to yourself is honest.

Backpack Ergonomics

Backpack Ergonomics
Here is a drawing explaining various ways to distribute weight carried by Humans. I tend to believe one backpack is the worst method of carrying weight, whether a light load, or a heavy load.

This is a drawing I made, the world carries weight in many ways, and on top of the head is the most common method. I tend to believe the butt muscles are more equipped to lift, therefore weight on the front is a preference for me, however in the way of seeing the path in front sometimes. There is a problem with width when walking on and off a bus, airplane or train.

I am thinking there are a time when distributing the weight to the top of the head is better. There is a big problem with weight only on the hips as people are fat, people wear belts, the pants have belt loops, the hips are great suppport when very skinny, however not so easy as people get older. However the pants need to be the correct type to not cause pain.

Balance is needed in a design, or the proper distribution of weight.

Side Bags to distribute weight, a very good design.

Lowered Center of Weight Bags, NOTE: I see this as a bad idea, I think on top of the head or high is easier to manage.

The way the world carries weight:

Young girl carrying on top of head in Africa.

A molded piece of wood or bamboo is used in Asia.

This one distributes the weight on the chest and back, there is a special strap you can purchase in Guatemala for the head, which goes across the forehead.

The weight here of this goat is on the chest of a boy in Africa, whether on the front or on the back the weight is not balanced.

Mad Mick in Iquitos, Peru carrying an Anaconda wrapped around his neck, this show the idea of how wrapping the weight around your whole body is wise.

I took all these photos as I traveled the planet earth, it is clear to me that what is natural makes more sense, on top of the head would be my preferred method. Porters will often in Tibet or Nepal carry three packs; it seems that there is a need for fashion that precludes logic.

Trust me, you carry a backpack around for ten years and you start to think, there may be some better ways to do this job. I live with my backpack, it is my home, it is all the possessions in my world. I truly use my bag, this is not a game, this is my home on the road.

Collapsible Water Bottle

Collapsible Water Bottle
A plastic travel bottle I purchased in Katmandu, Nepal froze while in Tibet on the way to Lhasa. My shampoo bottle took a good squeeze when the I flew down from 3300 meters to sea level and the air pressure increased.

Bottles leak because of pressure, maybe this bottle is a solution; it is a Collapsible Water Bottle.

A Collapsible Water Bottle, a plastic bag, small enough to carry, has a cap that is attached so I will not lose the lid. I do not use Travel Water Bottles, and have no plans of buying this Collapsible Water Bottle, however if I needed a toy, had about 12 extra dollars and was close to a gear store, maybe…

I see a gear store about once every two years, I do not buy bottles because what would I do if I loved the bottle? I would,
“Wait for two years to buy the next one.”

This is just a setup for disappointment, my old one liter Coca Cola bottle works as good as or better than most travel bottle.

A big lid leaks, a small lid has less chance of leaking, the more thread the better and for sure no easy to open types, they do just that, they open easy… in my bag.
The bag is made by Evernew, a nice Collapsible Water Bottle; this is a good idea; however, the stores give me a bottle free when I purchase a bottle of purified water so do not expect to see me with one soon.

I use water bottles for lifting weights, I am not sure if this Collapsible Water Bottle would work, but another toy for sale, a lot better idea than those camel back water tube systems too silly for word.

I think I could drop this Collapsible Water Bottle into almost boiling bucket of water to clean, I really do not like the taste of the algae that must grown in them very large water bag people carry. Maybe it is convenient to use, but inconvenient to clean. I think they make people look like elephants, and for sure a newbie to the road.

More toys for the toy chest, something to talk about on the way to the jungle, and something to forget and leave on the bus.
