I have stopped in to see my High School friend Gary in Upton, Massachusetts and immediately the next day he has arranged for me to talk with his sons class.
They want to talk about 3-4 cultures they have been studying, the Mayans, Incas, Aztec, and the Viking. I know little about the Viking, but in my computer and on the web site I had photos even of Machu Picchu of the Incas in South America and some of the Mayan culture in Tikal of Guatemala. Although I was not prepared I was happy to do this and happy that Gary assumed I would do a good thing.
The children were energetic and I did my best to explain the contrast between maybe today's culture and the archeology sites that I photographed and how they related or did not relate.
The student I hope will write me emails and help me to take photos as I travel. I am often in locations where I have no idea why the place has any importance, and then upon leaving discover the place had this and that, and I should have taken photos. With the help of these students I could focus on what is important historically, culturally and otherwise so my photos are better at explaining the world.
Plus the opportunity to make young people happy and demonstrate the power of the internet is a wonder.
I received an Email from Lynn a person that writes with helpful information often telling me about an ATM Scam and I thought it best to put on the blog.

I am in the USA with the normal case of Jet Lag, woke up at 3:00 AM and fortunately snagged a hotspot in the neighborhood where I am staying with my friend in Upton, Massachusetts. Really great thing about the USA is the free wireless connections and now at blazing speeds. Just drive a car into a nice neighborhood and you will find a free connection.
Food, sheets, and safe, nice to feel safe once in awhile, the people of the USA are spoiled rotten, and have no idea how great life is here, but for me I like a little danger so will be bored, but in a good way.
I am off to Indiana to see my family on the 17th of October and then back to Amsterdam on the 3rd of November. I am lucky to be able to vote…. I normally am not worried, but the comment Kerry made about Korea and Iran makes me know he is clueless and I must vote for Bush. He does not seem to be able to stop being political even when the safety of the world is part of the conversation.
I think in some ways it would be good to have a new president of the USA just for some fresh blood, but Kerry is not an acceptable choice, even Hillary Clinton would be better, and that would make my mom happy, but she was too smart to run this time.
WHAT LANGUAGE DO THEY SPEAK IN THE USA?
I got off the plane in JFK before transferring to the Comair for Boston, and was amazed at the lack of English. This is my country and they are really not from my country, this was embarrassing, why do I have to try to talk with people that speak worst English than the people in the airport in Amsterdam.
- Something Spanish.
- Something from the inner city of New York
- Something hip or ragged out.
- Something Asian
Where did these people learn to speak English, they need pronunciation lessons, and Europeans speak clearer and better English?
Where are the Americans, this is the first impression of the world for the USA and it is not the USA I love.
Then the turkeys want 3 dollars for a cart for my bag, plus why would I have dollars in my pocket when I just came from Europe, I have Euros or Pounds and these carts should be for free or one dollar, not 3.
Embarrassing and gouging, the USA is sometime hated because we do put our worst foot in front of the world. The USA is NOT New York, or San Francisco and can the leader try to make the introduction to the silly Europeans better?
THURSDAY MORNING - AMSTERDAM AIRPORT
Thursday 5:10 AM, 14 October, 2004
I slept in the airport and probably more comfortable than the Hostel as I did not have to smell people or listen to people noises. The airport is ok to sleep in except the chairs have these hard handles between the seats with makes it difficult to stretch out on a series of seats. The ones here in the Amsterdam airport are not so bad, and the area with the little built in table allows enough space to lay down very comfortable. It is a little cold here, but I have both a down sleeping bag and a hammock that is now serving as both a cover sheet or clean sheets like a sleeping bag liner and also a light blanket. It worked very good and is exceptionally long and easy to cover myself.
There is a transportation strike today in Amsterdam with the buses, trains, but it appears not the taxis. They should love this because they will make a fortune today. This is why I slept in the airport as the cost of the taxi at maybe 40-50 Euros is stupid. Better to sleep in the airport, and the train yesterday was only 3.50 Euros.
TRAIN OR PLANE TOUR OR EUROPE
I keep thinking about taking a quickie train or plane tour of Europe, I have found lockers in most airports or train stations in Europe and I could easily stop, lock up my bags, and go wandering around the city. Hop back on the plane or train to sleep the night. I really have almost no reason to sleep in an European city except to get the shower, but I could sponge it or survive for 3 days at a time, and there are strangely places to shower like the beach or other.
With the creation of easyjet.com and other discount airlines I can now randomly move between places according to the price. If one stretch is cheaper than I can move to that city, and then hop to the next. Europe for me is only frustrating because I spend too much time looking for Hostels that suck. I am used to living very good for my money, or I get extremely good value. When the airport is a better place to sleep than a Hostel this is sad.
I am totally disgusted with the Flophouse Hostels and their bars down below, this is not a Hostel it is greed. Give you nothing, and only suck money. The concept of a Hostel was originally thought up as a way to give youths a home away from home. It is a mis-interpretation to say a hostel is a dorm bed. It is like saying that to be a Hobo you must jump on a train, although there is a normalcy of this idea, it is not a need, just something that is stereotypical of Hoboes. Well a Hostel in Europe are often flophouses, and I am not used to living such a crappy level of life.
I am getting disgusted and maybe you would say outraged when I get on Hostelworld.com. I have this booking service on my site, and am about to remove the thing, but there is not alternatives. I do not know what to do, as it has tons and tons of room for up to 100 and more dollars. It is ridiculous, a Hostel is never over 100 Dollars and why would you pay 100 dollars for a dorm when most anywhere including Amsterdam you can get a room for 50 Dollars. I am starting to consider it unethical to have rooms over maybe 40 Euros in the site.
I am going to write them, and they are good at writing me back and tell them my opinion. I can put a warning on my site, because even though they are a problem, they are the only solution to finding rooms under 10 Dollars and booking them. In Europe you either book a room or sleep in the train or airport. I am even now believing the airport or train are better.
Here is the link, that is really Hostelworld.com.
I have made maybe 200 dollars in two years of use, and not really worth having on the site except as a service to my readers. I am thinking of getting rid of the commission aspect and just sending them to Hostelworld.com and then they will not associate me with Hostels that cost too much or are gouging. I am not in the business of giving bad advice, and not everyone listens or read correctly.
STILL IN THE NETHERLANDS AT THE AIRPORT
Wednesday October 13, 200 6:20 PM
I really made a good decision to come to the airport tonight and not tomorrow as I have been able to peruse and talk with all the discount airlines. In fact I discovered that supposed Europe-wide Easyjet.com has loosened their weight requirement. They are extremely good now as you can put all the weight you want in the carry-on as long as it fits in the 22 x 14 x 9 Inch compartment or bag size apparatus and up to 20 Kilos in the check-in bag. This is pretty much normal weight restrictions.
I can stay in a flophouse bar Hostel in Amsterdam and smell drunk people return all night and wake in the morning and take a taxi to the airport for 40 or 50 Euros, maybe 65 dollars or...
I can go sleep in the airport.
This is too easy of decision, the airport will smell good... I hope.
My dorm room in the Globe has this drunk that comes and flops anywhere he wishes every night and he stinks, so I am more than happy to leave.
My plane leaves at 11:00 AM tomorrow and that means I need to leave at 8:00 AM minimum, so might as well go sleep in the airport and not have to pay the 65 U.S. Dollars for the privilege of smelling people. I am amazed that I have yet to see anybody shower while I have been here. They do wake up 3 to 4 hours after me, but still you would think you would see one or two. I did catch an Australian guy with wet hair.
Like I said, I am in a Flophouse... a.k.a. The Globe, and it is better than most.
A Hostel has a kitchen and a common area where you meet people.
A flophouse is where drunks rest for the night.
So I go catch a plane to Boston. I will be in the USA for three week and return to Amsterdam on the 3rd of November where I hope to catch a train, plane, or bus to anywhere, and hopefully warm.
Photo of the elephant behind my elephant when I was in the Jungles of Chitwan or Nepal searching for Rhinos, I saw four Rhinos but only have one blurry photo. The elephant is a wondrous animal and is more or less an animal bulldozer, it can remove any tree up to maybe 6 inches in diameter from the path, it can walk through about anything.
Wow, this took long enough to get up, I am having trouble finding a way to connect my USB thumbdrive in Amsterdam, and now I have a wireless connection but it will not let me use Google, Yahoo, or MSN, I have no idea why?
I walked into a Shoarma or Falafel Restaurant and got sticker shock as a sandwich cost around 12.50 U.S. so I opted for French Fries at 3 Dollars U.S. My health is going fast in Amsterdam as my diet is the worst on a budget of 5 Dollars per day for food.
But here I am eating French Fries that would be called Chips in England with my small backpack on, while the owner starts to go into great detail about how dangerous the backpack is, and how people come in crying everyday. He does not say the word crying, but makes a sign of wiping his eyes with his hands as if he was crying. It says they will open the bag and steal faster than I can move. He is quiet adamant that I am really making a mistake and I should go back to the Hostel to get rid of my back and valuables.
We then proceed into the interview of where are you from, and where am I from and we discuss. But when I say I am planning on going to Cairo, Egypt on the 7th of November he starts into another tirade of why are you going there, it is not safe and the Muslim will kill me. He is Christian, but for sure he is dark skinned and look from the Middle East. He says to go to,
“Italy, Greece, Croatia, etc, but wait until next year Egypt.”
I was early corralled by a coupled of black guys up to no good here in on the bridge in front of the Hostel. I am not sure what they wanted, but decide to walk down the open street and not down the alley towards the main road. This place is definitely dodgy.
I took the canal trip today and was fascinated by the hooks on the gables of all the building that allows them to lower and raise furniture to the upper floor. I guess the stairs are too narrow for furniture.
The canal was great and easily worth the 6 Euros I paid. I sort of think it Amsterdam would be a good city to stop by train, pack your things into a storage locker at the Amsterdam Central Train Station and go on the canal trip, and late at night get back on the train and leave. Even if you only go to another part of the Netherlands. I really wanted to see some windmills and have been disappointed so far, as I saw a lot more in Belgium. I think I am in the wrong part of the Netherlands or Holland. There is suppose to be some 4000 or 6000 Windmills in this country. If I remember correctly when I was going to come here before 9/11 and was in Gent Belgium.
ON THE FLOOR AGAIN
Tuesday October 12, 2004 6:08 AM
I am outside the room on the floor again as all the tourist wander in from drinking all night. There are two British boys in a double room that went down and got another bucket of beer. I am always curious why I find British boys are up and drinking together very late or early in the morning and talking? The seem to never have girls with them, it is like there is something about the British boys where they have a need to sit around drinking with other boys at 5:00 AM in the morning. Of course there is also the cultural need to drink unto you pass out with them also, as opposed to just falling asleep.
Amsterdam is a beautiful city, clean, simple and easy to navigate. They have street signs although not real good, they have signs which is better than a lot of countries. Here they put the sign on buildings, and sometimes on a free standing sign.
What this means is I can use a map and actually find a place. I found the student travel place yesterday with almost zero problems other than the walk. Everyone told me I had to take the tram, but I kept looking at the map and calculated the time and decided they was dependant upon the tram and they just did not realize it was a short walk. I am a tourist and I came here to see the city and walking is ten times better to see a city than to take a train car. The feel and smell of a city is clear when you walk for a couple of hours from type of neighborhood to type of neighborhood.
I found a couple of grocery stores and was happy to find that the Lays potato chips were half the price of the Potato chips in the area I live. If the cost of living is the same as where I am than the Netherlands is in big trouble, but like normal tourist areas they gouge or take advantage of the laziness and stupidity of the tourist. I normally walk about 10 blocks away from any core tourist area before I would purchase anything much.
CHEAP AIRPLANE TICKETS IN AMSTERDAM
The best place REGARDLESS of your age to buy plane tickets is with a student travel agency, or ones that specialize in students. The ones that work the corporate or older tour crowd will gouge the hell out of you, and they are good at convincing you that it is necessary to observe their recommendations. I normally go to both type because sometimes you do happen upon a good travel agent that can stop being a gouger.
- The best places for tickets I have found are:
ADDRESS: Singel 413
The second place that specializes in cheap tickets to Israel.
ADDRESS: 226 Overtoom
ROUND TRIP COUNTRY
The plane ticket in Holland are best purchased as a round-trip price, then lose you return ticket. I have no idea why countries do this, but fortunately I base myself out of Bangkok, Thailand and they do not require you to buy round-trip tickets.
I was very happy that Kilroy Travels a Scandinavian or I think Finish company was able to find me a ticket cheaper with a layover in Boston of 5 days. This is a strange thing about plane tickets. It is very easy to stay or construct like a mini around the world ticket where you have few days in each city where the plane would normally stop. So if the travel agent says that the plane stops in a city, ask the agent…
“Is it possible to spend a few days there?”
A good one will admit that this is possible, a bad agent will deny the possibility. I am probably going to fly with Delta and this is allowed. There is smeway they buy a ticket or arrange the seats between the stops, and all they have to do is choose a different day. These mini multiple stop plane tickets are great. You have to commit a little, but nothing like a very restrictive around the world ticket.
I have finally found an internet cafe where I can use my USB thumbdrive.
It still is limited for use, I cannot use my foxmail program for emails.
FTP works, but this place is on Overtoon which is mabye a 45 minute walk from my room.
The STA travel office is at 226 Overtoom.
The have charter flights one-way to Israel for 205
The flights to the USA are the same as the other ones, unless you are a student.
AMSTERDAM - STINKY DRUNK IN MY ROOM
Monday October 11, 2004 5:00 AM more or less
It is early morning and again I am out in the hall typing on my computer. I am now in the Globe Hostel or sports bar and it is better, but there are the same type of problems but less. The place is nice, but there is a bar in the bottom so you have drunks. Some drunk has presently flopped complete with clothes on the bottom bunk and is making all sorts of grunts, snorts, and bodily noises. I have no idea where he came from and will be sure and lock the door tomorrow night. There are doors on the dorm room and I had to pay a 5 Euro deposit to get the keys. There are some very high security features to the hotel.
Example are that cannot enter the upstairs area without being have the reception are buzz the door and it unlocks. There is a key to the dorm door and lockers everywhere. Normally security features like these are only implemented when needed.
WORST INTERNET ACCESS IN WORLD
The may have some of the fastest internet on the planet, but the most difficult situation if you would wish to burn a CD Rom of your photos, write a word document and save on 3.5 disk, or in my case to use and USB thumb drive to load information to the internet. I would say that the facilities in this area are almost only for tourist or bar drunks. The mid-range backpacker has no services that I would consider normal. The laundry is difficult here, the internet is awkward, there is no area to hang around except in a coffee shop or a bar. The extra or miscellaneous expenses in this city are extreme, while the cost of the Hostel is lower than England the Miscellaneous needs probably makes the cost the same.
But people come to Amsterdam to smoke, drink, and pay for sex with all the prostitutes and the place is very good for that, but for the normal Joe Blow a stay of over 3-4 days is not needed. There are some special museums here like the Anne Frank, and the Vincent Van Gogh museums.
I keep looking at the map of Amsterdam and trying to understand the canal system as it has a series of canals that are concentric circles around the train station area.
DO NOT EXPECT TO TAKE YOUR PHOTOS OFF CAMERA IN AMSTERDAM!
AMSTERDAM CANAL TOUR
8.50 Euros and I am on the boat, it leaves every 15 minutes I am told, so I can get easily get off at Amsterdam Central train station and take the canal tour and even get back on the train and leave. I am trying to buy a plane ticket or I would have got back on the train… only after taking the canal tour. There is an architecture tour advertised, but only on Saturday and Sunday, although today is Sunday, I do not know the price and am not sure I can arrange or move fast enough.
I have been thinking a lot about just sleeping on the train and doing Europe, the quality of living in the dorms is not much better than sleeping on the train, although the shower is the problem. But I can take hand baths for 3-5 days and take a full shower whenever I find a room easily. Buying a car or van is the other option. I saw huge storage areas for pull campers as I was entering Amsterdam.
I cannot yet find discount airfares, but before I just book a ticket I am going to find the STATRAVEL or student travel office. I am not a student although I do have a student card…. Hehehe from Thailand, and made in Thailand… hehehe… But they will book a ticket without being a student.
I have this gut feeling that I need to find the place where students or university people buy tickets here in Amsterdam as the ones around this area of the Amsterdam Central trains station are not discount ticket services, but pay though the nose, put it on credit-card ticket companies. I would guess that in reality only about 1 in 20 backpacker or tourist goes to more than 3 ticket offices before they buy, therefore only 5 percent of the world travelers even shop a little, they just buy, so the best type of travel agent to make money would be a gouger. Two way tickets are cheaper in Amsterdam than the one way, so the one say ticket is not half the price of the return ticket, but about ¾ the price. In Bangkok a one-way ticket is half the price of the return or round trip ticket. Bangkok is so far the best place to base yourself for around the world travel.
Battery is dead, and the plugs I cannot use without digging in my bag…. Aagh, one snafu after the other. I really do not like Hostel, if there was a common area of any kind beside the bar I could drag my bags around and open them up. I am in front of the toilet on the floor.
TEN - FIVE AMSTERDAM - NETHERLANDS - HOLLAND
4:50 AM Sunday, October 10, 2004
I am sitting on the floor outside my dorm room in the Durty Nellie Hostel in the more or less Red Light Area of Central Amsterdam. It has an Irish Pub below as is normal for most Hostels in Europe, not that they have an Irish Pub, but the normal status quo seem to me that there is a bar below most Hostels in Europe. I really would not call these things Hostels when they have a Bar below, more like Bar Flop Houses. By far one of the worst budget accommodations on the planet. I just left Nepal where for 6 dollars U.S. I had color TV, two beds, a private room and a balcony. Plus it was quiet so for 30 U.S. Dollars or 25 Euros I am paying 5 times the price to sit outside my dorm room and type. Miserable!
I have been warned by Bruce from the USA, Nicolas from Switzerland, by the lady at Hostelhunters.com, and everyone more or less, including the signs in the Hostel that they are not responsible for loss or theft, and that I need to be careful of robbery.
BOOK OR BOOK?
Do I book a room in Europe or do I go to Europe. I have finally decided that there is a huge need to book rooms in Europe. But when I got on Hostelworld.com or my own booking Engine on my site, which is Hostelworld.com with my co-brand it said all the room were full. Except for the 100 Dollar plus rooms. I have no idea how a room for over 50 Dollars could ever get into a Hostel booking site, but there are hundreds. I am becoming more and more disappointed in the Hostel booking services. They are ten time better than nothing in Europe, but for sure I am going to make a booking service that is better.
What is wrong with having a kitchen in a Hostel?
In England and maybe Australia they have Kitchens in Hostel…. I think, I am not positive, as I cannot afford to move around in England. The Tube or Metro, subway or whatever you call it is radically price too high, and is just a gouger. But the hostels are much better or more fun than Amsterdam so far. I suppose if you want to get very drunk than Amsterdam is perfect.
In my dorm room of about 20 people there are maybe five people awake and talking very loud, I have jet lag so there is no way for me to get comfortable or sleep through the racket. I would suppose that 33 percent of the people in the room have just stumbled in and fell on the bed, so their inebriation is helping them. I think the preponderance of people are Irish as I cannot understand a word they say unless they repeat it 3 times. I am happy to say even though they keep turning on the light, talking loud, stumbling, and opening and closing the door, they do say,
Funny, but the words excuse me are not really used in the world, the word to say excuse me is,
So I am moving today for the Globe, also in the Red Light district and recommended by my friend Bruce. I have already paid and booked a room there as it is 18 Euros and more secure. There are wooden lockers it appears in most hostels and a locker I think is standard, the problem here in the Dirty or Durty Nellie as they spell is that they are wood and they can be popped open very easily in some instances. The use screws and not bolts that go all the way through the wood. A screw can be pulled or removed pretty easily, while a bolt all the way through the wood cannot. In the Globe they have relatively deep STEEL lockers and almost impossible to break into quickly. Plus they have a wireless internet system inside the Hostel they tell me, I was told it was free if I understood correctly, and this would make my life easier here.
I have got to guess that the cost of living in Amsterdam is about 15 Dollars U.S. per day cheaper for a short stay than London, but Earls Court or Kangaroo Court in London has information on finding apartments and jobs easier. So the first week appears to be more expensive in London, but you could quickly downgrade the cost.
Amsterdam is a full on, no stop tourist city like Brugge, Belgium and there are tons of obvious tourist here and I have only seen maybe two normal like backpackers. Most are tourist and I looked extremely out of place walking with my large back pack and my front pack and wheels is the norm here even for the backpackers. Wheels though are best and am constantly trying to put light and strong wheels on my bags.
My backpack weighs exactly 20 kilos and exactly the weight for the plane.
My front pack weighs 14 kilos or 7 kilos over weight for the plane.
(A drunk girl in maroon pajamas just stepped over my bag, that is working as a desk. I am in front of the toilet and coke machine on the second floor.)
There is a 5 pound grace normally on the big bag, so I can go up to 25 kilos and really the airlines are not set up to take extra money for baggage. Except for the discount lines, Ryanair.com, Easyjet.com, Airasia.com. If you see a counter that collect money for excess bag weight you need to really work and adjust as much as possible quickly before you go to the check-in counter.
I am trying very hard to downsize my bags, but am starting to believe that in Europe the Eurolines bus system is a lot simpler and less of a headache than the cheap flights. Unless I need to get from one end to the other end of Europe. Heathrow is the only real easy airport for England and I am not sure of the status of Amsterdam and Brussels. I will get on the internet for a couple of hours today and only search for cheap flights. The cost round-trip to Boston from here is 420 U.S. Dollar with is pretty good, but not extremely good. The have an advertised price of 249 round-trip to New York that is in January. So I think January is the cheapest month to fly to USA.
32,000 FEET - 500 MILES PER HOUR
Saturday, October 9, 2004 Who knows what time?
I am on the Bimar or Bangladesh airlines flight from Dhaka, Bangladesh to Dubai to Brussels, Belgium, to New York, New York, USA. My trip ends in Brussels where I will hopefully catch a train easily to Amsterdam, I say easily because Europe is extremely difficult for travel. In 80 percent of the world I can take a taxi for one or two dollars and the taxi knows the way to the train station. In Europe unless I am willing to pay 20-50 U.S. Dollars to take a taxi I must learn how local bus system works. Local buses are always the most complicated to use. Sometimes they are simple but normally they are a maze for rats.
So I am high in the Air, flying around 500 something per hour, the plane is full of Bangladesh people going somewhere and a few Belgium people. I have the feeling a lot of these people are USA citizens, but very hard to say because they are wearing the Islamic uniform and talking in different languages. One young girl next spoke English more than she spoke the Bangladesh language and I finally asked her where she was from? She said that she was from Jersey with the appropriate USA Jersey accent. Quite humorous to me like a complete culture clash to see a woman with the long dress like shirt and silky pants, plus the scarf over her head. Skin color the light brown or Bangladesh color suddenly speaking like “New Jersey.” She even has the East coast arrogant, cannot be bothered, why do you ask questions attitude. Islamic people are normally very polite and well mannered.
The girl is getting married in Bangladesh and she is going back to the USA to…’
I made a Joke,
“You can make an application for a marriage?”
She finally went beyond the curt Jersey answers and told me or I finally guessed she was making application for her husband to have citizenship. It was funny because as we was leaving Dhaka, Bangladesh she said that she wanted to stay because she like it. So there is few missing pieces to this pie.
I did learn later her father is dead and her mother moved to the USA eleven years ago. I have not idea of the reason, but I am continuing my cultural investigations of marriage.
She has been explaining there is a quasi arranged marriage system for Islamic people. There is the same quasi arranged marriage system for Hindu also.
PLUS THE DEAD KICKER
If the husband of an Islamic or Hindi person dies for any reason it appears that the wife can never remarry. I am not sure if she can have a boyfriend. This is one reason in the past and in many ways in Varanasi, India the women jump on the funeral pyre with their husbands to kill themselves. Their life is defined by their husband and in most ways ends with their husband. So they often commit suicide. I would suppose moving to the USA would be a good solution also, but that is my speculaton.
WHAT THE H..?
They wake us up to eat on the plane and then the shut the lights off after breakfast so we can sleep. This is too silly, either it is time to BREAK the FAST or Break the day, or it is time to sleep. So now I am typing in complete darkness. It is ok, because my computer has light, but the light of the computer will for sure annoy people that want to sleep.
Just a not on crying babies. Islamic babies cry, western babies cry. Most Southeast Asia babies do not cry much and either do babies in South America. The Islamic babies and there are a few are making sufficient noise.
I was talking to a girl on the shuttle bus in Dubai. She was with one of them women in black that has every inch of her body covered. But the girl I was talking to was from..
She was talking as did the other girl about how busy, full of traffic Bangladesh was, and how dangerous it was to walk. Both of the women are half American and in the end only their family is truly Bangladesh.
This one tells me that she wants nothing to do with the arrange marriage and obviously from here western clothe wants nothing to do with covering herself.
What was even stranger was the use of the word to call her traveling companion. As she reachess out to hold the hands of the completely covered, non-English speaking woman as we proceed to get off the shuttle bus she says,
She smirks, then she says,
“They said she lives in the same place, so it would be no problem.”
So she called the woman she was helping to travel “Luggage.”
GNASHING OF CULTURE
Rip, bang, tear as the seams of culture rip apart.
This is the ripping apart that is happening in Islamic, Buddhist, and Hindi Religions and cultures as the world watches television and learns that some women have choice, and some women dress to be pretty they are starting to rip apart the older culture.
See to wear western culture is against as best I understand many of the rules put down by Mohammed. So you cannot just secularize or adapt the religion a little, you almost have to jump or completed separate. Hard to say what or how this will play out, but western clothing and the Islamic, and Hindi religions just do not work right, I can hear a lot of shrieking and ripping in the minds of the elders.
So as my Israeli friend in Panama said,
“Send them Televisions.”
I have moral dilemmas like I would with an Amish boy that would want to drive a car…
“Are you sure you father would permit you to drive this truck?”
I know the answer is no with the Amish.
But to encourage a person to do something against what they morally consider correct is in most ways not morally correct in my view. So to encourage a Islamic to watch Television in my view is morally bad on my part, because it will lead them into temptation to not obey the rules.
Iran and Afghanistan are great example of societies that have at one time westernized and suddenly the older generation fought back and destroy the modernization of the culture. But right or wrong a culture will change.
So I sort of laugh every time I see a person using a Mobile phone.
LAYOVER OR AIRPLANE STOPS?
Note that it seems like every plane between Europe and Asia is stopping in the middle east. I wam wondering…
Is the jet fuel cheaper in Dubai, Quatar, Bahrain?
IMPORT EXPORT KATMANDU NEPAL
Friday October 8, 2004 4:28 AM
I leave with Bangladesh Airlines for Brussels Belgium today. I will be in Amsterdam in the afternoon of the ninth.
It seems that buying things in other countries and selling would be a perfect way to make money as a traveler, but it is extremely difficult. But in theory I should be able to go buy a few things I would think would sell, pack them up and send them to the USA. What happens though is DHL, UPS and Federal Express seem to have it down to a science on how to make money. The cost of shipping is more than the value of the things I purchase, but the good part about these services is they will arrive in the USA and other means I have to worry.
Really in the world Federal Express and UPS are very difficult to use, while DHL is very easy. DHL to me is an obviously the largest and most successful or knowledgeable or may you would say widespread.
I am trying to make these products to sell on my website in Nepal.
2. Mosquito Net
3. Day Bag
4. Backpack Organizer

I am in Internet Hell!
I cannot find a place to use my USB.
The internet cafe here had a USB port and it does not work on the machines. I guess it is here to flustrate people.
Some drunk with stinky feet lands on the lower bunk after getting tanked below in my
flop house bar Hostel.
It appears to be normal in Europe to give you the worst part of a Hostel the dorm beds and take away the best parts...
i.e. Kitchen, common areas to meet travelers.
But Amsterdam is for drugs and prostitutes and after they are done with that they go and look at the Canal, Architecture, Van Gogh, Anne Frank.
NOTE that cheap airplane tickets are confusing to buy here.
I am trying to find the Israel people or Statravel.com office, because for sure I am just in a pay through the nose tourist area here.
But for sure I will have some good photos of the canal and other nefarious things.
My friend from Norway wrote me...
She helped to lead me away from home on this Hobo Journey.
AS Rod Stewart said in the song Maggie Mae
Wake up Maggie, I think I've got something to say to you
It's late September and I really should be back at school
I know I keep you amused
But I fell I'm being used
Oh Maggie, I couldn't have tried any more
You led me away from home
Just to save you from being alone
You stole my heart and that's what really hurts
The morning sun when it's in your eyes really shows your age
But that don't worry me none, in my eyes you're everything
I laughed at all of your jokes
My love you didn't need to coax
Oh Maggie, I couldn't have tried any more
You led me away from home
Just to save you from being alone
You stole my soul and that's a pain I can do without
All I needed was a friend to lend a helping hand
But you turned into a lover and mother, what a lover, you wore me out
All you did was wreck my bed
And in the morning kick me in the head
Oh Maggie, I couldn't have tried any more
You led me away from home
'Cause you didn't want to be alone
You stole my heart, I couldn't leave you if I tried
I suppose I could collecd my books and go on back to school
Or steal my daddy's cue and make a living at playing pool
Or find myself a rock and roll band
That needs a helping hand
Oh Maggie, I wished I'd never seen your face
You made a first class fool out of me
But I'm as blind as a fool can be
You stole my heart but I love you anyway
I'd never seen your face
I'll get on back home, one of these days
Rod Stewart - Maggie Mae Lyrics
So we wander the planet like nomads, wondering why?
