Turning Fortunes into Shoestrings

Turning Fortunes into Shoestrings
I travel on a Shoestring Budget, and there are people who turn shoestring budgets into fortunes. I am sad to listen to anyone talk about investing the stock market, as I believe it can take a life savings or a fortune and turn it back into a shoestring.

I have studied the stock market for years, however as an intellectual game and challenge. I one time played a game called the “National Investment Challenge.”

I did well in this game, second in my state and 52nd in the nation; it taught me a lot about the stock market.

A few things I believe 100 percent to be true.

1. The reasons given on television why the stock market went up or down is crap, they have no idea, they are reporters, you should never listen to them it is really silly noise.

There are two major groups of investors.
a. Institutions like Insurance Companies, Pension funs that are big money.
b. Individual or the one person who uses something like Schwab investments

2. Institutional investors sell when there is good news.

3. Small investors buy when there is good news.

4. Investors in the stock market never admit they lost money, therefore the opinions are skewed, you will only hear your friends tell you about how they made money. It is like Vegas; people will come home and tell you how they beat the Casino giving hope to another silly person.

I tend to believe the Institutional investors make all their money from taking the small persons fortune by turning it into a shoestring.

You can beat the Stock Market, you can make a fortune, however the odds are extremely low and you do have to be a special person. If the majority of people knew how to do this, the majority would be rich.

I am now wondering what will happen on Monday after the small investors have time to think. There was good new about the bailout, I now suspect on Monday stocks will go down as the institutional investors try to dump their losers to the small investors. Presently even the small investors are not as silly as before, they know the whole market is taking a beating.

Fun stuff, and truly a dangerous way to live, investing in the Casino called the Stock Market.

Japanese School Children with Backpacks

Japanese School Children with Backpacks
There was an invasion of these small Japanese children running towards me as they rushed home after school.

Japanese people generally are reserved and do not make eye contact, that is except for the children. These two with the help of a hand signals, and intuitive understanding helped me to get some fun photos of them with their interesting Backpacks. They are like small boxes, square with a small flap that looks like a Super Heroes.

Cute children, dressed sharp, clean and well behaved, a real contrast to many of the street urchins I meet around the planet.

Rather funny, they seem to want to help too much, really well behaved.

Ok, that is what I wanted, them to turn around and peek.

Thanks Japanese Children for a Good Day.

Off My Travel Path of Dreams

Off My Travel Path of Dreams
I never thought about it much, however Taiwan, South Korea, and Japan has forced me to think about what I like about travel.

I am sitting here in Japan, what feels to be the most advanced, developed and rich of the three countries searching my soul, trying to decide what I feel.

I feel like I am home and I need borrow a car to drive to the Mall.

Even though these countries have wonderful restaurants, clean sheets, and a panoramic view of advanced culture, I still think to myself, I went traveling to leave home, not to go home.

What is even worst, I am researching a trip to Australia and New Zealand and I got on a few Hostel sites in Darwin, Australia and saw photos of Brits jumping in a Swimming pool. There is absolutely nothing wrong with Australia, there is nothing wrong with Japan, these are modern countries, but my feelings are not based here, this is not what I like to do, this is not me.

I look at a map of Papua, New Guinea and I get excited, I look at Ethiopia and I start to dream, I think of the Congo and I get a rush.

I have been slipping back to Pucallpa, Peru in my mind, I truly want to go and canoe down the Yurua River and see what it feels to be on the edge of the planet, close to less contacted tribes.

There is so much going on in my mind and world, however I know I have already left Japan, Australia and New Zealand. I cannot help it, I am not here, I am in Pulcallpa, Peru, Ethiopia, or Papua, New Guinea, I am not sure what to do, I am here.

I feel that I should save these rich countries for my old age, I need to utilize my youth while I am still young.

I cannot imagine Dirk Pitt or Indiana Jones being here, I cannot imagine Wilbur Smith writing about these countries. I am not much of a dreamer, however I do know when I have left the path of my dreams.

Palin versus Biden Debate

Palin versus Biden Debate
Old man versus Women, as best I can tell, the American man has no chance, women are the smarter sex on Planet Earth.

This is truly a city boy versus country girl fight.

Alaska versus Deleware, Go Palin!

I truly am going to enjoy this debate; I 100 percent feel and see an overlay of sexism in the USA press coverage. I am from the State of Indiana; there is a natural propensity for bigger states like New York to think Indiana people are not as wise or sophisticated, they are trying to say that Alaska is not up to snuff.

I would say generally, when it comes to be street savvy, maybe as conniving Wall Street crooks, we fail. However, there is no way you can just groups minds together, there is this groupthink that somehow puts a lesser value on the State of Alaska, somehow them Eskimos up there in Alaska are stupid.

Imagine a City Boy from Washington fighting an Alaskan Eskimo.

Then the men, oooh, la la, I am positive men are stupid compared to women, anyway I see it, women control the planet. I am just hoping they never realize this or I will be towing the line for the rest of my life.

Obama is a black man, hehehe, everyone has gloves off on this issue which is racism at it heart, he is not being evaluated at a black man running for President and how that will effect his decisions. I truly believe Obama will play the race card before this is done.

I on the other hand think… then ask the question, who would be better?

Biden or Palin, Palin or Biden, who would be a better President, I think Biden would be better than Obama, I think McCain is a little old for the job, I found Biden to be 65, and older looking, however young enough to be President. Palin and Obama are young enough to keep the brains cells working fast enough to learn.

Do I want Palin for President, I am not sure, however I do feel she will win the Hearts and Minds of the nation a lot faster than some Washington Insider.

The press is always naïve in their judgments, they tend to think intellectually or liberal, they do not know Main Street. Main Street wants to hear words they trust, not words that make sense. They do not wish for great speeches, they want humility.

Sitting here in a Japanese Hostel looking in at the USA, this is the first debate in my life I wanted to see.

This is the first time

Man against Women Debate on Planet Earth, the playing field is level and the audience is balanced, public opinion will see women for the first time in the USA as a contender. I see this as a great moment in the history of the Democratic World.

This is real, if Obama got assasinated, or McCain died, who would be leader of the free world?

I want to vote for Warren Buffet.

Japan is a Top Level Developed Country

Japan is a Top Level Developed Country
I find it very difficult to describe Rich Countries in terms that make sense to other Rich Countries. How do you compare and contrast the same to the same, there are no differences to point out.

So far, in my experience of traveling planet Earth, Japan may be the most highly developed country I have ever visited.

Now, please be careful with these words Highly Developed, for sure this means crapola in many ways. I am not saying the quality of life is great, in many ways I would think Guatemala would be my choice.

However, in terms of the ability to remove problems or stop problems that are endemic of under-developed countries such as:

1. BAD Manners, the biggest sign of under-developed country.
2. Trash
3. Pissing in the street
4. Traffic
5. Disorganized
6. Corrupt Police
7. People becoming superstitious and paying the witch doctor remove the problem.

Etc. hehehe I put number 7 for contrast, at the bottom this happens often and daily.

The signs of development in my opinion and mind has to focus on what problems are missing, not the highly developed aspects of a nation that a person can see.

However, Japan has some Highly Developed Characteristics

1. System of making change when you pay whereby the money is not put into the tray until both parties agree that the transaction is satisfactory.

2. Recycle Trash bins next to Soda or Refreshment Vending machines.

3. High Rise Condominium living to manage high-density population.

4. You can drink the water from the Tap and bottle water sales are just fashionable in nature.

5. Joggers in the morning.

To be objective in making an opinion about the development is by nature just an opinion. To truly compare and contrast the countries of a planet the observer needs to visit all the countries and travel around from the lower strata to the higher intermixing with the locals. This being close to impossible in one life time is an indicators that nobody should pay much attention to these opinions. And for sure when a country says they are poor or rich, there should be no economic benefit as a reason to enhance or distort their image.
- Example: Poor countries say they are poor to get money, they make their problem worst than reality.

I have as of today collect 458 different specific types of identifiers of the development levels of nations. More or less a check list whereby a person of lesser skills sets could in a subjective manner, attempt to evaluate a countries level of development. If you read the 12 examples above, then envision that I have in total 458 of them in a database waiting…

Japanese Comic Book Girls are R-Rated

Japanese Comic Book Girls are R-Rated
I read many comic books when I was younger, however I doubt my Mother would have approved of these Japanese ones. I am not sure what happens, I think the real thing may be illegal here in Japan so they suffice with Comic Books.

Look at the photo.

This is like Hooters with a twist, people go to Hooter and pretend they do not understand the name, I suppose a kid can say,’
“Mom it is just a comic book, gee whiz.”

Funny observation on the real side, the Japanese girls here in Japan are ten times better looking than the hippie dippie Japanese girls of Khao San Road in Thailand. I often thing only the runts of the litter ever leave a country and travel.

A representative from MeGlobe.com wrote me, now I am itching to chat with someone in another language. You can type in English with a friend from France, the person in France types in French and it auto-translates so you only read English and your Frenchie friend only reads French.

MeGlobe.com is an idea that needs to be supported, encouraged and made a success. Translation on the fly with MeGlobe.com is a great way to cut the distance between China and your country in half, really helping two worlds meet.

Languages supported as of October 2008, they say they are adding more soon.

Hmm, I have friends in every one of these languages, except Greek.

English
French
German
Italian
Portuguese
Spanish
Russian
Dutch
Greek
Swedish
Arabic
Japanese
Korean
Chinese Traditional and Simplified

I just learned this; Hong Kong, Taiwan, and probably Singapore use Traditional Chinese, an older more complicated form of Chinese. The idea was this; the main continent of China was more literate so they simplified the Chinese. I hope that is correct…

Nonetheless, I am writing many people emails all over the planet inviting them connect so I can test out this great service by MeGlobe.com. Please test it with your friends, I want to help give them feedback and keep this show on the road.

Japan in my opinion is the most developed country in Asia; it makes Singapore and Hong Kong look like country bumpkins.

I have grown suspect of highly developed countries though and yesterday saw suspicious signs that life at the top of the food chain may not be as good as at the bottom. Your quality of life, are you happy, is life good for you, I feel, people need to step back and take a good look at themselves.

I was on the subway in Seoul, South Korea also thinking, if this is life, “I quit.”

I have no desire to stand for 30-60 minutes in a subway wedged into a spot, trying to close my eyes, hoping it all goes away.

I also have no desire to wear a suit, ride a bicycle to work, and try to balance a bag of rice, vegetable and tofu in the basket as I go home.

There is a deluge of suits that pass me on my morning walk around Fukuoka City here in Japan, this man is waiting for the little green man to say walk.

Tribal customs, traditions, and life of the average dweller of planet earth are about fashion, then how we use fashion to represent our status in the society. Suits in my opinion wea this uniform to try to show the world they are in this status category or obey certain tribal traditions.

Off he goes, riding his bike off to business fame in Fukuoka, Japan, I wonder if he is feeling a sense of status as he rides to work.

Do you care about your personal image, would you have a mountain bike, with fat tires, and look the sports person, or would you be practical and have what looks like a 1960 Pee-Wee Herman Bike, maybe a Schwinn bike of your childhood. When the practical life prevails, people tend to think,
"Married with Kids."
However, the majority of bike here are practical, I saw not trendy looking bikes, does practicality rule, there are many sporty cars.

I suspect the cost of living is so high here, that Suits are required to be practical as the cost of living pushes them down in social status.

I do not fit in, I have nowhere special to go, I am in the business of enjoying my daily walk, looking at the world as it hurries by.
