Ok, in the next newsletter, I am going to write a tip about this bag.

What is the tip? What am I making?

Careful, my mind is like a bad neighborhood, you do not want to enter alone.

Not now, however eventually the answer will be as a tip in this newsletter. Today date I am typing is March 14, 2006, so the farther away, the more likely an answer is in this link.

Guess What This IS

Guatemala Drinking Water

Guatemala Drinking Water

This is a fountain in the Pueblo of Santa Catarina four mile away from Panajachel, Guatemala.

It is common to have a fountain or common water area close to a village or in the village. This is maybe a well, government like city water, and then they can make money. Hard to say how the quality of the water is, however I doubt it has fluoride in it for their very bad or soft teeth.

Come on Coca Cola, do me a favor, and start putting fluoride in your drinks.

Not sure, maybe also for washing clothes, difficult to assess why it has this bowl like drop area below. I guess they can put the jugs under the taps. Then the water would flow into the holding tank.

This is about 50 meters from the lake or Lago Atitlan. The water table is maybe 20 meters down or something like that, and a good well would go deeper.

Water is needed for living, living on top of a mountain causes a water problem, and living next to a mountain solves a water problem, as the water is released form the sponge mountain.

Guatemala Drunk in Front of Hotel

Guatemala Drunk

This man slept in front of the Hotel for about four hours in the middle of the day. I think he was trashed. Somewhat common to see people just drop and sleep in the streets of the world. However normally they choose a less conspicuous place, this is interesting at maybe the kindness of the Guatemala persons, I would probably have been kicking his butt down the street away from the front of my restaurant or hotel.

He was dazed, and then he would roll over and put his hat on his eyes to protect from the glaring sun. I do not like to take these photos, it is embarrassing, however it is real.

In the Caribbean there were many, however more dangerous because the people were more prone to violence than here. Much bigger people in the Caribbean and very dangerous person, harder to take photos of there than in Guatemala. Drunks are a dangerous bunch of people.

Anthropology I Collect Common Themes

Anthropology I Collect Common Themes

I was trying my best to chat to a Holland girl about Anthropology. She asked me about five times if I was an Anthropologist. There is as best I can figure at least 10 people from the Netherlands, a.k.a. Holland here or around this area studying Anthropology. The must come to Pana to party on the weekends as do many from Antigua, Xela, Guatemala city and such.

Interesting conversation with a very quick mind, very rapid firing brain, spoke three languages for sure, and could manage my barrage of commentaries, while talking and thinking in English, even though her native language was Flemish.

OK. I collect common aspects of cultures. This is a cart; I have taken man photos of carts. One day I will get them all grouped together by country. Carts bleed up into a taxi at some stage; they will evolve into from carrying goods, to carrying both goods and people This cart is for good or products only.

What is an Anthropologist? I scored some brownie points with the chat when I said, or made the rapid-fire assessment.

- A person with endless curiosity -

- Anthropology, the study of all aspects of human life and culture. Anthropology examines such topics as how people live, what they think, what they produce, and how they interact with their environments. Anthropologists try to understand the full range of human diversity as well as what all people share in common. - (2)

Thanks Encarta the definition above is from my computer Encyclopedia.

How they use this cart

Not all cars though share this little lock box in the bottom, unless you want to consider how as this grows in size, stages, it become a bus with storage, or at the end a plane with a cargo area.

Anthropologist, a person that does not want to be called a businessperson, however probably still wants to earn money.

A better way to meet women than saying you like money.

A little box for his lunch he says, plus makes it safe, keeps his hands free.

San Pedro Hostel

San Pedro Hostel

OK, for one thing, anyone that wants to sleep in a dorm in Guatemala is crazy. You can get room here for 2-3 dollars USA.

I was cracking up, laughing and chisme with the manager of my hotel. Some Gringos enter the hotel, asked the manager to put this flyer on the counter.

I started to laugh when I seen it. - TRIPPY - if that does not mean - DRUG - then nothing does. This word is evasive to the locals however to me has two meaning, however for sure the San Pedro de Laguna across the lack city is known for drugs.

Free Love - the next big laugh for me.

The is an entrepreneurial person. Contrary to popular myths about hippies, they do seem very greedy. They are the jewelry salespersons, marketing in I am lonely, I hate money, I make stupid crap, I hate the government, I hate globalization, and then become very good drug dealers. It is like a perverted form of a good cause, I am in many ways a hippie generation person; however, I keep trying to see the nobility in some of these people and all I feel is the sleaze.

Sadly, the owners thought they were just trying to be nice, does not want to recommend drug hotels or such. I do not know what this hotel is about, however to me, it is pretty clear you do not want to recommend to mom and pop to go live in a trippy Hostel.

A gringo can enter any Hotel; convince the owner they are respectable. Marketing by sort of a statutory rape methodology.

This is the type of post that elicits hate mail from the - Free Love - I love you, but I am angry bunch. Sort of confused from the get go bunch.

Gallo Beer Guatemala

Gallo Beer Guatemala

In Santa Catarina, a man was angry, I was not happy. I think a couple of children had by accident caused a case of beer to fall and break.

Nothing in the world could make some Latino angrier than breaking or separating them from their beer. It is expensive for this habit, they drink too much, I think alcoholism is rampant. IF you do not drive a car, if you do not go to jail, alcoholism rises. The wife is killed, beaten, and abused in many ways. In a sort of stupid macho Latino way, they all work together to enforce that the wives do not interrupt their drinking. In much of the world, the women do most of the work while the men drink. Not a good day for the boys, sad to me.

The women captured, thanks to the 12x Sony Zoom, hehehe, I am happy to have my new zoom camera. I really would like the go-pro model of Canon. Please Canon send one, I will try to be nice, not criticize, speak nice, then again, I know me

They are a happy bunch; this is in the village or Pueblo of Santa Catarina just 4 mile away from Panajachel. I talked to many of the vendors, they come from there, and ChiChi and I suppose if you wanted to find the source. I need to ask in the big market areas where they are from, then I could find the common places, go and visit and see them actually weaving. Many do so while waiting for the sale, however the real culture is up in the mountains somewhere over the rainbow.

Panajachel Guatemala Volcanoes

Panajachel Guatemala Volcanoes

Presently I believe or think there are four volcanoes on this lake, called Lago de Atitlan in Guatemala. It is unfortunate; the last time I was here the sun was setting directly behind the volcano and made a dreamy type photo.

From the back of my pickup on the way to Santa Catarina, Guatemala, I am on top of the hill looking down.

This is a wonderful little dock or pier in the Village of Santa Catarina just about 4 miles from Panajachel or a 3 Quetzal ride in the back of a pickup.
