2008 March 27 Entered Guatemala

2008 March 27 Entered Guatemala
I have left Acapulco, Mexico and flew to Guatemala, City; I am now in Antigua, Guatemala.

I flew one-way from Acapulco to Guatemala with a change of planes in Mexico, City. I used Mexicana Airlines and the ticket cost 250 US Dollars, not a cheap flight, but maybe cheap for Mexico or the USA.

The plane left at 7:00 in the morning, too much argument with Taxis so I just left the hotel, the taxis wanted 45 U.S. dollar to go to the airport, and I paid 2.5 U.S. by taking two collectivos at a dollar per fare and one bus.

Mexico loves to put you between a rock and a hard place and extract money. To take a taxi at 4:30 in the morning from Pie de la Cuesta was a dream trip for a Taxi, they love to extract cash.

By being too clever, they will remain at the bottom of the barrel, normal type under-developed culture who is trapped by their own customs to remain stagnant.

Getting Better Flight Times

Getting Better Flight Times

I have found, because I arrive very early sometimes to an airport, sometimes I sleep in the airport, that if I am early enough, the people checking me in will often rearrange my tickets so I have a better flight schedule.

Today I was leaving Guatemala at 3 in the afternoon, then arriving in JFK at 7:30 the next morning. I purchase the ticket over the internet with American Airlines.

She decide, why am I going to Montreal.. so she put me on the same first leg of the flight, however change my ticket so I arrive in JFK at 11 PM or 2300 hours.

I often just say, - Are there any earlier flights -  I do not pay more for this.

No Man Land Guatemala to New York

No Mans Land Guatemala to New York

I am in the No Man Land in the Guatemala Airport, I will leave Guatemala today and go to JFK Airport in New York, I am on an earlier flight than planned and will arrive at 11:00, I think I should hang around outside of Immigration in the No Mans Land of New York and wait for the clock to turn to April 2nd. I would get one more day in the country, I can only spend 35 days in the USA per year or I have to pay USA normal taxes. If I stay out over 330 days per year, I can earn up to 80? plus or minus thousand and not have to pay taxes. One day traded off for one hour of time is not a very good deal...

No Mans Land: When you have cleared the immigration on the country you are leaving and have not entered the next country... I am in No Mans Land, nobody own a non-country. Note this is my own rendition of this space. There are normally not any land mines, some people that feel like land mines.

I am amazed, Guatemala Airport has free Wifi in the International zone or departure area. I have not left the Sales Mall area and entered the actual gates, I suspect the signal will die.

What is the Future of Travel Technology

What is the Future of Travel Technology

It is a curious speculation, what will happen in the future. I am going to the USA today, therefore I tend to think about buying technology. It is cheap, information is easy, I can buy it with a phone call, it is possible to explore the possibilities. Therefore the USA is like a shopping center for my dream toys. I can do this on the internet, however without the ability to purchase the items, it is frustrating.

Communication is the major dream, satellite telephone, internet access over the internet.

Organizations toys, things to help make me smarter.

I am not addicted to the internet, however many of my readers are, they ask consistently on how to stay connected to the Internet when traveling. What tells me they are addicted is they dwell on the speed. Writing emails does not require much speed, however getting the rush of looking at new pages, overwhelming the senses takes speed. I very seldom care about the speed unless I have to wait. Music and pictures require speed, I do not look at pictures often, and do not download music. I do download books.

So as I go the USA, I am thinking about a BGAN Inmarsat Satellite Internet access system, I will try to visit an office in Rochester, New York.

IF I could talk with a person who knows how to put movies on the internet,  I would do this also. I better be careful, I need a person that knows how to take a 30 minute movie. The in the course of about 15 minute convert it to a 25 Meg Movie in three formats, then put in the internet from any computer they walk by. I can do this maybe with perfect conditions, however I should also say, do this from the rear seat of a greyhound bus, or on the back of a camel.

OK, if I could do these two thing, I could go to Agadez, Niger, hop on a Camel across the Sahara for 20 to 40 days. Send movie clips to the internet, go broke paying for the internet access, however explore a unique places on the planet and explain it while my feeling were uncensored. While I have no chance to edit, censor or change. This is maybe the future of Technology and Travel, we will be able to share in real time what we are doing.

Leaving Guatemala Soon

Leaving Guatemala Soon

I am leaving Guatemala soon, it has been a great vacation from my endless vacation. I am happy to return to the chase, there is a rush I encounter when I enter a place I have never been. This is the addiction of travel, then new world I meet continually, it never ends, every I enter a new city or country there is thrill.

This room here in the Don Quijote Hotel or Posada has given me hope, that I can make my life easier. My website is growing, the page is becoming my boss, I must work more every year. However when the internet is in my room, I do less work because there is no setup time. I do not have to go to the internet, try to find a computer, spend money, take the time to configure the new computer to fit my needs. The bottom line is working on my own computer in my own room is efficient. Working in an internet cafe requires me to plan and be extremely organized.

Somehow when I try to create a nest, I keep adding more twigs to the nest, the same as any other person, I desire to live better... for the same amount of money.

Ok, I truly believe there is not much reason to live outside the USA unless I live in Hotel room for less than 10 dollars per day, there is nothing like feeling like a rich Hobo.

I fly tomorrow night from Guatemala to JFK Airport in New York USA, then rent a car, take a look at the hole that was the World Trade Towers and then drive to State College, Pennsylvania to visit some University Professors.

I explained to the Hotel owner and her daughter today how their Wireless connection to the internet worked, they did not know they had this in the hotel. They told me they had a webpage. Note, my room, number 8 is 13 dollars per night or 100 Quetzals.

This is a very beautiful page, however invisible to the search engines.

Index 2005 Andy of HoboTraveler.com Travel Blog for Accountant

Index 2005 Andy of HoboTraveler.com Travel Journal

I am making a new Index for the Blog, for a couple of reasons. One is it is needed, the Blogger system just does not deal well with 1900 plus post, and I know some persons only want to read on certain countries. However for me, I am trying to calculate the exact number of days in the USA so I can tell the Accountant. I am coming up with 30 days.

This is a very slow loading page, it has 500 plus links on it, but if you wanted to pick and choose subject, country, date, etc, it better. I will do my best to implement into the master blog system... or get myself very confused.
