Foreigners Live in Harmony with Locals in Guatemala

I am able to relax here on Lago Atitlan, the Guatemalans live in harmony with the foreigners. I am quire sure the foreigners annoy the locals more --- the locals are extremely nice, quiet and easy to avoid while the foreigners want to change the locals.
(Many NGO’s Missionaries, etc, maybe this is NGO Colonization, about the same…)

"Hello Local, I will give you money if you suck up to me, and make me feel important."

Hmm 100 percent annoyed, and 0 is no annoyance.

What is the most annoying moment with locals here on Lago Atitlan? When the lady tries to sell me banana bread in the morning,
"Hola amigo, quieres pan?"

Cultural Immersion
I saw a sign here in San Pedro the other day, it said something about cultural immersion. I was laughing, that is truly the last thing a tourist wants. It is almost impossible to have cultural immersion on Lago Atitlan, this is one of the larger expatriate colonies on the planet, there is almost zero reason to speak Spanish here.

Beef on a Tortilla, truly a great dinner for two dollars.

Who are these People Sharing my Secret Lifestyle

Obviously, saying the word "Secret" is sort of crap on a cracker, the question is how we pretend to feed it to people, how do we serve up the secret? I am rather sure the reason why I am calling it a secret, is because I suspect I could explain it to many people and maybe only the odd 1 in 5000 would be on the same page after I was finished with the story.

Nonetheless, I am collecting a group of peoples names together on one page, and hopefully I can group them together without making enemies. Whatever? However, the bottom line, is I feel, sense and believe this is a group of people who share the same secret lifestyle.

Do I believe we can explain this secret to the general public, not really? It is one of them paradigm shift thingies, one of them white lights, an epiphany, not explainable, best done with a 2 x 4 side the head in the dark, without any warning.

List of people who share a secret lifestyle

Do you know the names of people who share the same secret lifestyle, click on contact and tell me the name, e-mail, contact etc... PLEASE?

I would add Tin Tin, but he is just an imaginary person.

I am Not Crazy if I get on a Plane to Cote d’Ivoire

Life is not a yes, life is not a no, it is living with my best intentions an ambiguous maybe, it is what it is, no more. I am not going to tell you about Bah, because I am certifiably crazy when it comes to discussing Bah my Ivory Coast girlfriend, I am not to be trusted. I just had telephone conversation with her, and promised her many things, I have no idea why…

NOTE: PC: It is Politically Correct that you call the country Cote d’Ivoire, and not this anal thing Ivory Coast, using the term Ivory Coast proves you an idiot.

One person read this book and felt guilty, the other hope, the other realized a guide is a guide, and always a maybe.

I wrote the story of my life, and was lucky enough to live a different one that is ten times more enjoyable. I am indeed grateful the story I wrote did not come true.

I say to many people,
"Do not get German on me."

What I am trying to say,
"Allow me to change, and just once in awhile, I want you to say, I agree."

I love Germans, Butt want to slap them silly.
I call them Butt Heads, they refuse to just agree, I often want people from the German culture, to be careful, I give them very strict advice in my German way:
"Warning, you must just agree once in five times, or you are intolerable to be around."

Add something to the conversation, do not try to prove me wrong, it is too German, and I do not like Germans, because I do not like me, it is a maybe "I am" thing…

The USA was or is about 26 percent German ancestry, it was the dominant culture of the USA, it was the German culture that beat the Germans in WW I and WW II, they beat themselves. I am by nature at least 26 percent German, it is the horrible and wonderful part of me.

I can be strict the level of designing the worlds greatest car the Volkswagen, but anal enough to never quit a job I hate because it pay so damn much, I cannot quit to enjoy life.

A Lifestyle You can Pick Off the Tree

Kabul Hotel International the Five Star Chance of Dying Offshore

There was an attack on a Kabul, Afghanistan Hotel by terrorist. Was it full of NGO’s?
No Good Organizations?

If you want to optimize your chance of dying by terrorist while traveling offshore, to have your head cut off while in a foreign country, then it is simple. Live in a Five Star Hotel, then you become the soft and easy target of all anti-western angers, the epitome of what the world does not like. It does not make people feel good to make it obvious other are less than them, and nothing does then better than a world of Five Star situations.

I dream of people being able to make great decisions, I am quite sure many people should never travel offshore, it is just not wise to leave home for a few naïve people.

NOTE: The chances of dying in a terrorist attack are close to impossible for an American, walking across the street is how you will surely die overseas, not by terrorist. But, if you wanted to optimize your chances, then become a soft target, live in obvious situations of wealth.

Gays, Grannies and Grandes
There are Gays, there are Grannies, and there are Grandes, I am always amazed when people have somehow maneuvered society into denying the truth. There is a Southwest Pilot who probably made an off job joke, while he as on the job, and got into a lot of trouble. Employers become the enforcers of manners, or pay money in a law suits, it just is not right, we need to, laws made by lawyers, to benefit lawyers.

Ranting real life

I am a Grandpa
I am 55, and a few people in Africa call me Papa, they are being reverent, but I know they also see me as weak.

I am Fat
I could also be called "Grande," which mean I am at about 190 pounds, too much to be called skinny. I call myself fat, because I must accept reality, I am in a fight with fat.

I am a Fat American
I would not like it if you called me a Fat American, but would have trouble getting truly angry at you. There are hateful comments, and there are real comments, the bigger problem is when people assumes people should agree with them.

I am an Alcoholic
I have had few people scream this at me, and I say, yes, and your point is….oops, I am a recovering alcoholic or better to understand, a drunk in remission.

2011 Lake Atitlan is an Incredibly Great Deal Because of USA Recession

If you are going to retire overseas, try to find a locations where you can fly direct, cheap, and in less than 3-5 hours. You need to accept you are fat, old, decrepit and need to be able to fly back home to the hospital fast…. Hehehe

If you are female, gorgeous, between the age of 25 and 35, and want help, I will be glad to assist, but please send photo.

Lago Atitlan, Guatemala is a great destination for old and fat people, the ones that are about to keel over dead. There are plenty of direct flights to GUA. And, once you get in Pana there are small Tuk Tuks to haul your fat butt around very cheaply.

Tourism is getting hacked to death outside the USA, and Guatemala is an now incredibly good deal., you can rent houses in many places here for 200-250 USA, but watch your steps, this is the fat people problem.

Guatemala's Version of Tuk-Tuk, Guatemala
This photo's source is HoboTraveler.com: Guatemala's Version of Tuk-Tuk, Guatemala

There are four problems to travel to Guatemala

1. You need to negotiate the price of Hotel, you cannot just say yes.
2. If you get a reservation for the Hotel you will destroy the deal, get a one-night reservation..
3. People believe what they read or watch on television about countries, and somehow believe this place is dangerous, which for the most part is ludicrous.
4. Why come for week, when you can come for two months, it is cheap.

Ghana is safe, Guatemala is less safe, and Sosua was rather dangerous, but Ivory Coast was safe, except when at war.. hehehe

Am I Offshore Outsourcing my Life to Lago Atitlan Guatemala?

The term offshore really is ambiguous, more understandable when looking out into the ocean at a boat,
"Look at that boat offshore."
In a way, offshore defined is: functions performed in a foreign country.

However, the word outsourcing, is even more ambiguous, when I hear these words, I scream,
"CALIFORNIA."

Why do I scream California?
There is this propensity for people who live in California, to believe they know and understand thing they do not understand. They then use these buzzword that to make themselves appear sophisticated and knowledgeable. Then of course, and the other people in other states adopt the words, everyone in unison is using words they do not understand. Then nobody is willing to admit they do not truly understand..

Actually, people who live in California, also believe they are more intelligent than people in other states, this is fun stuff to toy with…

I am saying in an indirect way to the person:
"You do not know what you are talking about, and are behaving very Californian."

I define this as:
"California the Travel Game."

I say two things: California or I like Pizza.

The people have low self-esteem, or never listen, therefore what compounds my fun is they do not even ask,
"Andy, why did you say the word California?"

Offshore defined as simple as it gets, I am living in a foreign country.

Outsourcing defined as simple as I can make it seem, is to use cheap labor that is outside the USA, the source is outside in a foreign country.

I have outsourced my life and I am living offshore, which again means nothing but there are tens of thousands of people that believe it is clever to hide money offshore in tax havens, whatever all that means? Or maybe I understand, and I am just playing stupid, to make the California people have confidence in themselves, thereby making them soft targets.

Bottom line in life, if you do not obviously understand something, try to do something else, and for sure do not open your wallet and give money.

What are the names of cities that sell used book in English abroad?

In NON- English Speaking countries: I need help, in which cities, in which countries are English Books are sold in great numbers, or maybe an exceptional book exchange?

NOTE: I do not care about NEW books, I can, and would buy them with Amazon.com and read with the Kindle Reader on my computer, I do not have a Kindle.

Please write names of cities, and explanation at:

hoboontheroad
AT
yahoo.com

In my opinion, if you want to know the best places to live offshore, you do not follow the money, you follow the used bookstores in English. Many many many men follow the boom boom girls, and the rest of the Expats living offshore follow the bookstores, they seldom are aware, but used bookstores are great unique identifiers of a good offshore expatriate colony.

Kindle of Mobi Book are great for research reading, paper books are for fun reading, I on average pay 1-3 dollars worldwide for a used book.

Internet 5 times better in Guatemala than in Dominican Republic

You really cannot compare countries, better to compare cities, but the Internet on Lago Atitlan is about a five times better situation for people who want to work on the Internet..

In Sosua, DR, I had a spastic connection, seldom dependable for Skype, then if I was talking, there was a constant problem with the connection being cut because electricity went off and switched to batteries. I tried to buy an Orange USB wireless Modem, for one month, costing $150 USD and the girls were too stupid to sell. I then tried buy a 3 gig transfer USB wireless Modem with Claro and again, the women was not capable of getting to work, and it would have cost 75 dollars.

Here in Pana, I have high-speed, non-breaking connection in the Hotel Posado Don Carlos, and across the street El Amigo has the same.

My Internet Backup System in Guatemala
I can have a Tigo USB Wireless Modem for 200 Q or about 30 USD per month, and have 8 Gigs of transfer, and I use as my backup Internet access. I used the same modem here last year and in Honduras.

The modem then allows me to further cut the price of rooms if I want, I can live cheaper and cheaper. There are two bedroom houses for rent here on Lago Atitlan for 250 USD per month, and would be good for a family. Personally, I like having people around and find living in a Hotel more fun.

Majority of Expats Offshore live in Gated Communities
Hmm, I am sure the majority follow their fears into the compound living away from the locals. In reality, the biggest majority of foreigners living offshore live in gated communities. More or less, for reasons unknown to me, they live inside big fenced in additions with armed guards outside, and seldom leave the compound except to feed. The problem with this, they want to live the same as the USA or Europe and by the time they are done, the cost of living is more than the USA or Europe, they lose the financial cheaper cost of living advantage.

This is a great alternative if you are incredibly famous, you can live anonymously overseas and avoid the hassles of living at home. More or less a country club environment that does not allow the locals to know who you really are.
