CNN says Charities in Crisis

CNN says Charities in Crisis
I think CNN has felt a decrease in one of their biggest advertisers, therefore to write the news to sell advertising they have a piece today called,
- Charities in Crisis -
Music to my ears, nothing better could happen, but do not worry, CNN has come to the rescue of one of their biggest advertisers.

Signs of Language Fluency

Signs of Language Fluency
To say a person is fluent in a language, to say to myself,
- I am fluent in Spanish. - Silly

I see this comment as dysfunctional, if I tell another person I am fluent, they tend to think I understand 100 percent.
Gee, I know….
- I am not 100 percent fluent in English. -
I do not understand 100 percent of what I hear.

Today, in a funny way, I discovered I am more fluent than I thought in Spanish.

I wake up often at an inhuman early times; today it was 3:30 am, upon waking I turn on the TV in my room. I begin to scroll the channels trying to find something of interest. While I am looking for old movies, I turn on my computer and start to type. The television has both Spanish and English stations; I often need to wait for a movie to start talking before I change off the Spanish Channel and onto the English channels.

Well, I stopped clicking and stalled on a new channel, normally the Spanish is annoying and I change channels. I was not paying attention to the TV, and then I heard something that caught my attention. I look at the TV and realized. It was in Spanish, I understand the Spanish, even when I am not focusing on the TV.

To accidentally overhear a conversation, to accidentally hear Spanish in the background and understand is closer to fluency.

I made a video in Mexico; I was talking to some children in Spanish. I made the video, edited, published it, and did not think much about it. My mother wrote me saying,
- Nice video, we wish we could have understood what you said. -

I edited, I did all the work, it never even crossed my mind it was in Spanish, I understood everything perfectly.

I do not tell or say I am fluent in Spanish, the domination of the language is demonstrated to me by how quickly I communicate, how often they do not understand me, how well the goal of communication is accomplished.

I can almost instantly tell, the majority of Guatemalans do not speak Spanish, at least not as their first language. I have been trying to explain to the family in the hotel that some of the words they use are Kachiquel and not Spanish.

Guatemala is not a good place to study Spanish, the speak the indigenous languages first, same for Barcelona, Spain, a very stupid place to study Spanish, the locals speak Catalan.

Maybe try Madrid, Spain, or Cali, Colombia, I tend to think El Salvador is good, and for sure do not go to Chile or Argentina, they are not even on the list of places to learn Spanish.

Although it is fun to learn the Guatemalan people do not speak good Spanish.

Good Travel Health Requires a Way to Cook

Good Travel Health Requires a Way to Cook
I was told I have high blood pressure, then given some pills called Atenolol.

Well, I have been abusing my body for the last three months, eating, working on a computer, not taking care. Therefore, I decided to take care, eat right, cut down on salt, etc, blah blah blah. I just set my mind to it, and I do it.

I cannot eat in restaurants and stay healthy; I know in the end I am doomed to malnutrition. I need a guest kitchen in the hotel or it just does not work, or somehow cook in my room.

Eating healthy while traveling takes work, now that I am really eating healthy, I have upgraded the desire for kitchen in the hotel for me to use from a want, to a need.

I do not find balance meals in restaurants; I can only find the food in the local food market.

My present hotel has a Kitchen in it, I am grateful. I also cook in my room, with an alcohol cooker, when there is no kitchen.

I really think a wise long-term traveler must learn to cook in their rooms, pretend they are always camping, it is the only solution I can find.

From a Farm in Indiana

From a Farm in Indiana
People ask me where I come from, I say Indiana, and Island of a strange and wonderful culture on Planet Earth.

I truly came from a Unique places on the planet, for the most part; I enjoy the Indiana obligation to say hello to people. When we walk alone towards another person, when we are close, we feel this obligation need or guilt that says,
- I better say Hello and break the ice. -

Whether I say hello, nod my head, wink of an eye, or just make eye contact, I feel an obligation to acknowledge other people exist on the planet who are equal, and they deserve the respect of a Hello in the morning.

My Mother sent me this,

Once upon a time in the Kingdom of Heaven God was missing for 6 days. Eventually Michael the archangel found him. Where have you been? God proudly pointed down toward the clouds and said LOOK. Michael said What’s that? It is a planet God said. I have put life on it and I am going to call it earth. It will be a place of great balance. Balance inquired Michael. God explained pointing to different parts of earth. Northern Europe will be a place of great opportunity and wealth and southern Europe is going to be poor. The Middle East will be a hot spot. God continued pointing to different countries. Michael was impressed and he pointed to a large land mass and said, "What's that one?" 'Ah,' God said. "That's Indiana, the most glorious place on earth. There are beautiful lakes. rivers, sunsets and rolling hills. The people from Indiana are going to be modest, intelligent and humorous and they are going to be found traveling the world. They will be extremely sociable, hard working and high achieving, and they will be known throughout the world as diplomats and carriers of peace. ‘Michael gasped in wonder and admiration and said but what about balance God? You said there would be balance. God replied wisely, 'Wait until you see the idiots I'm putting around them in Michigan, Ohio, Illinois and Kentucky! Only someone growing up in Indiana will appreciate this and send it to someone else.

The Responsible Tourist and Traveller

The Responsible Tourist and Traveller
This is the buzz of the day, the words used in a formal way by the World Tourism to promote tourism.

This always feels to me like a leaking ship, or a mutinous bunch of people. They sail out to help the world and become pirates who rape and pillage in the name of good, cannibals disguised as missionaries, I think the world is better off with rogues.

I enjoy an honest philander more than all this noise….

There is no checks and balances.

Promotion of money versus the Promotion of being responsible travel.

They need to separate, and work against each other, to work together seems ingenious and doomed. A good situation is when nobody is happy, they feel the other side got too much, however when there is no other side, the ying and yang is lost.

Note: A good person normally can see the wolves in sheeps clothing and want nothing to do with the wolves at the door.

Run On of Panajachel Guatemala

Run On of Panajachel Guatemala
I was intrigued by the words of one of the Managers of some Rooms in the village of San Pedro on Lago Atitlan, Guatemala yesterday.

- Panajachel Run On -

----------------------------------

- Has had it Run On… -
- Is Run on -
- Tourism has had it Run. -

Tourism in Panajachel, Guatemala has had a good run, it is now in the wee hours of the morning and more or less is a has been, it was the place to go, now it is a run on…

San Pedro also will have its Run on Tourism soon she says.

Run on away from this place and onto the next.

Contrary to any Marketing the world promotes, most travel destinations, the majority of Tourism areas, for sure any type of trendy place to stay, live or get a hotel has only about 5-10 years of in the sun, and then the run is over.

There is first two parts to a tourist location.

1. The reason why we came…
Example: To study Spanish

2. The best neighborhood or area to live.
- This has little to do with the quality of the hotel, more to do with where all the fun is happening. Where everybody goes to look at each other, the place to be, the center.

Diehard Tourist Attractions have staying power, inherent reasons to live in a Hotel close to the tourist attraction. (The Statue of Liberty)

Resort type of locations burnout or have their run and then become the lair of those who pay too much to go to places that have lost the music.

Lago Atitlan in Guatemala has music, the song is half over, it is a very large lake, and there can be a few more runs before the fat lady sings, however this has maybe 10 more years and there will be too much of too many tourist, it will lose all purity.

The experience Guatemala will be run out here, the tourist in Guatemala cluster, creating places that are distinctly not Guatemala more the Bob Marley, Che eat your Veggies and enforce the new age politically correctness, more than the culture they think they are escaping.

In the end, all if Fashion and Trends, there are almost zero free thinkers who do their own thing, the majority do their own thing in big social groups. Well, I would say the do our own thing together has had it Run in Pana and San Marcos and San Pedro are also run out.

There are stages:

- A few Hotels and a few backpacker types hanging out.
- Every house gets in the act and starts renting rooms.
- Regular Hotels are built
- The tourist information office is built.
- Tour Packaged
- People go just to go because they have heard for years about the place and it is easy and sounds like an easy enough place.

I suppose in some really bad tourist area they become Ghost Towns the Run is over.

If there is a tourist information office, the run is over.

Cacao Cocoa Bean Diet

Cacao Cocoa Bean Diet
I think Cacao Beans are natural diet pills, somehow as I understand these beans cause the body to secrete Serotonin. This seems to create a calmness that relieves that annoy desire to stuff food in our mouths.

Go figure, these are suppose to be special organic ones, this word Organic means nothing, just another label to mislead...

It cost 20 Quetzals per pound here in a tourist store, or about 3 US Dollars, I have not checked well, however it seems to sell up to 18 US Dollars per pound in the USA.

I have found red beans, and black beans, they taste bitter, give a kick in a way, and remind me of the Euphoric feeling of chewing Coca leaves in Peru or Bolivia.

Let me think, 20 pounds X say 10 is 200 US dollars to accidentally carry back to the USA in a my backpack.
