On the Front Lines

On the Front Lines
A friend Scott wrote an inspirational comment,
“But Andy why concern yourself with these trivial affairs and get back to some serious front line reporting of the world. Remember when you got back from Africa and you stated "I accomplished nothing". I think you were on the front lines then. We want blood (your blood). Take your friend on a truly memorable ride. His blood and your blood would be doubly nice. Take it to the edge and jump!”

I have to admit; I am boring myself silly some days here in Guatemala, and have a taste for some on the edge travel. It is confusing to explain, however, I am training and preparing now to go back to Africa, and maybe go see the Stan Brothers, Kyrgy..., Uzbeki..., Trukmeni..., Afghani.., Paki.. Etc, plus up to see Mother Russia.

What am I doing, I am cleaning house on my website, creating support staff to help me along the path, and I hope helping some others to follow the road. It takes money, on the edge takes some serious cash, I realized Gabon, Cameroon and the Congo could be unpredictable, and there is not even guidebook information on some of the countries.

I sold 13 photos to Roughguides West Africa, and the book is out, I have been boning up on how help, but not buy into these big players think about photos, how the videos work, how to take better photos and how to tow all this equipment to place out on the edge. My backpacks are getting heavier...

I have had some great victories, some slow days, and life is good, yet life is a little too calm. I am ready, as you say Scott, to
“get back to some serious front line reporting of the world.”

The main goal is to not sell my soul, and thrive in the outside world.

Travelers Need to Break Habits

Travelers Need to Break Habits
My friend Chris is here in Guatemala, I have been enjoying immensely his habit of being friendly and talking to people, then his custom of wanting to pay quickly, easily, and before being asked.

Both of these great habits of a respectable Americans are problems here in Guatemala.

When he says hello, the vendors in the tourist area continue to follow and never stop….
Why?
“Because Chris never stops replying to their questions.”

I was allowing a nice girl to torture him yesterday, she followed us maybe four city blocks, and finally he purchased something. This was too funny to me; I was explaining she won the competition. More or less to annoy you until you buy is the idea, hoping there is a 10 percent desire and 90 percent desire to end the game.

I think he understand now, say hello, do not enter into conversations with Vendors.

Next, was funny, he pulls out some money before the we negotiated the price and ended up paying double of what was needed.
I said,
“The minute that girl saw the money, she knew she had you, it is impossible for me to help you, because she know you are a sap.”

I am quite sure Chris does not like me calling him a sap, but, well what can I say, does he want me to lie? Most Americans are saps when it comes to travel, us American never in our lives have to negotiate, play poker, and deal with sly and clever 100 percent selfish people who just want our money, our lives are too easy.

We are soft targets, I really do not care about this, but it is annoying to know the people of Guatemala have no respect for USA people who are not smart at these small normal games on the planet.

There was a party the other day of Foreigners, I explained to Chris, think about it, there was not one Guatemalan person at the party, this is how Americans and Europeans deal with these problems, they just do not have friends from Guatemala, or at least not good enough friends to ask to a party.

I was trying to explain the Ugly European, also known as the Ugly American, however because this insightful book and movie was written by an American, normally said as Ugly American. Europeans and the Americans are the same animal, just American are more polite, and bigger saps. The ugly is the enforces separations, this is indeed an ugly thing.

Chris is modifying some of his habits, it is interesting, I keep trying to encouraging him to just be respectful, nice, and how to stop the vendors in their tracks without being rude. He a little too old for this, he is 59, set in his ways, not able to really think fast on his feet.

I think of Panama, Costa Rica, or Thailand encouraging the older Americans to come and retire, then want the old ones, not the young people. After about age 30 people are so set in their ways they become soft target, easy to screw, the ideal types for all the scams of the planet. I hear people say they are going to retire in other countries, this is too late, they need to make one-two month trips starting in the early twenties or they should stay home before those habits become so ingrained they cannot change.

Too funny in a way, too say in another way.

The tourism industry targets the older people, more disposable incomes, with the brains running at slower speeds, saps, easy to screw and gouge money out of, what a way to make a living.

Tighten the Belt of get the Noose
I am praying for 10 U.S. Per Gallon gas, I am worried about the USA economy. It is obvious the American culture has no restraint, just a bunch of wimps, crying over everything.

40 Year Mortgages…. Geez, too silly
(I cannot believe this is not illegal.)

I want the economy to tighten up and fly straight before there is a noose around their necks.
If the USA has problems, then travel will get cheaper for me… hehe

Do not get it wrong, if the USA has a noose, then Europe will be dead, however most of the underdeveloped countries will not be a phased as much.

I see the rising price of gas a great blessing, finally getting the USA people to grow up, life is just too easy in the USA. My life is too easy, however, I know dreadful things can happen to a good person.

I almost have trouble talking to Americans, they feel like children, the Europeans feel like 12 year olds, they really do have the dream life, the American dream, they are delusion how rich they are, and that nothing bad can happen to them.

I believe the inherent optimism is too high, they believe tough times is paying 4 dollar for gas, wait until they lose a job and have unemployment at 10-20 percent like France or Germany.

What is the cycles, recessions every 12-14 and depressions every 60-80?

I am positive Obana, Clinton or McCane are powerless, yet 10 dollar gas is not.

Off Focus Off Topic Reading Skills
Eric sent me a link explaining how people read words on the internet, or correctly how they do not read, it appears the average person reads somewhere from 10 to 30 percent of words according to the type of pages.

My problem is this, I write a blog post, people do not read it, however, I know they believe they read it, then this person jumps, and wishes to comment.

WHAT THEY DO….

First - Off topic, not related to the complete post, just pull out one line and comment.

Second - Off Focus -Comment in confusion, irrelevant, however they are on-topic partially, but not on the essentials of the blog post.

Third - Trolls and Flamer who just need heard, never got a hug, have penis envy problems.

All this has intriguing insights into the real nature of people, and how they read, understand, and then sadly make decisions. On the other hand it is terribly annoying to have people just doing anything they wish to do, and destroys any cogent, consistency of the blog or their lives.

The gossip, social media sites encourage people to talk non-sense, this empowers individual to make inane comments. This blog is where I propose ideas, and want constructive comments that help enlighten the other readers.

I am continually trying to learn ways to moderate kindly. I do believe it is almost a waste of time when I know the majority of reader’s minds arrived off-topic and off-focus, and never read the instructions.

When I am talking with with the real-time people, I like to say,
- I want to bid on a verb. -
- I want to bid on a subject. -

In a funny way, I am requesting a subject to their sentence, then a verb; however, they ramble non-sense and truly believe it makes sense. Writing lacks the hand gesture and emphasis of primal body language, therefore inherently missing about 90 percent of the communications possible.

I find reader are funny, they never do anything right, I think their girlfriends must feel or boyfriend must feel a pure lack of a completed life…as they just never read every word and thought, engaged brain.

I love that movie about Harvard called, the Paper Chase, the professor really keeps the students on topic and on-focus, a rare experience. I accepted years ago it was disrespectful to talk on the phone and read or surf the internet at the same time, really just ineffective.

I found a Satellite internet connection in Guatemala that is truly tickling one of my dreams. I affordable Satellite internet anywhere on the planet. If you want to work on the internet or communicate using the internet, I found a clue.
Hughesnet.com

Hughesnet.com is giving me some hope, as I found this company providing Satellite Internet Access in a Hotel on Lago Atitlan called La Iguana Perida.
laiguanaperdida.com

This is a maybe a flash packer, backpacker resort thingy in the Village of Santa Cruz. It a nice place, sort of the mixture of mixed up hippies and well funded entrepreneurial backpackers. This is a full service backpacker resort. So far the only place that understands that High Altitude Scuba diving is here on Lago Atitlan, and that people travel from all over the world to say they dived in this lake.

If you wish to work anywhere, in Central America, or in the Caribbean, the Satellite connections are moving this way, I do not know much about it, and everyone minimized a solution that is truly extraordinary.

I want to go to any village on the planet and use the internet, I feel this will only be accomplished when we dump the landlines, and the cell phone towers and follow companies like Hughesnet.com.

Presently Satellite Internet is used mostly by using-other-peoples money to pay Volunteer or NGO, News Media and the Military.

I think the equipment needs and the dish are presently not mobile, more stationary.

The Power of Words

The Power of Words
As life walks along the path, I keep having this reoccurring desire to hide or even run from people. I am not afraid of people, I am afraid of myself, continually needing to throttle some low level rage.

All my life I have stopped myself from talking, people that know me would see this as crazy, there is nobody that talks more than me. However, I often wish I could explain to them how slowly we are talking and how simple.

I cannot talk with bad or ugly people because I tend to take the restraints off and start going for the juggler.

The happy indigenous people here in Guatemala, or in Africa helps me to relax, they do not have agendas, they do not try to manipulate, they do not have more than just the normal primal desires of life.

The power of the words that enter my world, and the power of the words that leave my mind are annoying. This blog is a temptation to talk, to explain, to think aloud, this is not good. It is incredibly easy to anger another person, this is power, it is incredibly difficult to move a person to care, think, and try to do the right thing. I try to stop the words I say from becoming twisted, to be used, to be abused, and to give power to weak people who want to live a selfish life, not a helpful life. It takes incredible power to stop the twist of words.

I watch that Reverent friend of Obama on TV, thinking to myself, this person is intoxicated in words; the power of talking to other has corrupted his soul. There is a temptation to feel satisfaction or even arrogance when writing, like writing, talking to yourself validates and empowers, it is a ridiculous process. There is not truth in statements, just because I wrote it.

I love to talk about ideas, like a good backpack, what is a good backpack, or how to make a solar stove. The more complicated feeling of what motivates people, why people do bag things, and what is the benefit they seek. If the person who is listening replies, adds ideas to the ideas, the two of us created a little clearer world. Sadly, 90 percent of replies, or ideas are not for clarification, they are just to try to twist the world. I am amiss to figure out this desire to twist the words of others, to not try to find the message in any confused or clear statement. I enjoy seeking the bottom line ideas of life, the one lines that allow me to be happy, such as,
“Be a good boy.”

There is a reward when I find the proper path, explained in words; however, there are people along the path who want to lead me or us off the good path into the darkness.

I guess the desire to hide, escape, to not listen to people off the path in the darkness is normal, however I wish some days I felt there were more people in my life who just wanted to enjoy the day, on a good path.

This all sounds like some preacher wailing away about good and bad, however I feel more the desire to close the door on confusions explained, spoken, and endured. My goal is clarity, I truly feel sad when so many people around me have no desire to explain something clear, and they desire the power of confusion.

Confusion is really the devils only friend, and bringing things into the light is heaven. Simple thoughts, clear ideas, a nice day, the reward for living a good life, and being a good boy.

It is 6:16 am here in Panajachel; a person outside the Hotel exploded some firecrackers. The world in becoming increasing empowered to perform the same action with words. To use words to cause everyone to listen, I am not sure who will stop these people with firecrackers. I know most of the good people just go and hide, it is easier than fighting the mobs who wish to explode firecracker of words for no reason.

What is a blog, but a way to give voice to somebody like me who maybe should not write or talk?

Planned Abuse for Kelty Redwing 3100 Pack

Planned Abuse for Kelty Redwing 3100 Pack
By accident, I am now planning some abuse of two Kelty Redwing 3100 Backpacks. I am going rob one bag from Chris, and send him home with a Junk bag from Thailand. Then Mark and Taia are suppose to bring down my second victim, one for front, second for back.

I purchased two wheeled backpack in Thailand and now know everything bad about wheeled bags, however they will soon fall apart.

I still have a the Windmill Bag living in my mind.

I told Mark and Taia,
“Bring me a bag, you cannot go wrong, I will take to a shoe repair shop and modify it.”

I looked at Chris, the bag is ready to be robbed, this bag looks nice, the harness is great, however the pocket, zipper, and pull system is miles way from the finish line. Too easy to rob, a great weekender bag, will take some work to make it pro.

I wish the idea of security would just once float into the mind of manufactures of backpacks. The zippers systems has some serious problems, I am not clean on how to upgrade zippers. My Thailand 10 dollar bag has better zipper pulls.

My present plans for making backpacks is to order all the materials from USA vendors, pick up the materials and go to Canada and make the backpack myself, doing all the sowing myself.

Chris showed me some neat pockets, saying these were good, my comment was,
"If they was that good, they would be stuffed full of items, not empty."

Do not fall in love with a pack, modify it to fit your needs, it is tool, not you wife.
