Explaining Cultural Idiosyncrasies

Explaining Cultural Idiosyncrasies
A friend of mine Jack is here in Guatemala, he reads my Travel Journal regularly. He alluded the other day to my Blog and said something to the effect that I explain idiosyncrasies of people. I was quite amazed at this astute observation, I truly had never thought about a Travel Journal this way, however if I was going to define a mission for a Travel Journal, I would say it this is correct.

The word idiosyncrasy is great concept to grasp, there are so many layers to understanding, and there are ways of explaining that clarify. However, clarity is comes when we know our mission.

Green Revolution in Guatemala

Green Revolution in Guatemala
Chris was given a cookie here in Guatemala with a something green inside, inferring there was marijuana in the cookie. I realized this is truly the green revolution I have encountered on the planet.

I see people in Aldi's Grocery store bring their own bags to save money, now that is what I would call the green revolution. When people save money, when they want to do it, when they are doing it because it makes sense, this is good, it is sustainable.

Now, I know the Green Revolution people are also smoking marijuana because it makes sense in their lifestyle also.

Old or Fat or Codgers

Old or Fat or Codgers
I am here in Guatemala, there is a surplus of older end-of-the-roader’s who are different than the young travelers who normally surround me in countries like Thailand. I have been enjoying the eccentric problems of older people; I am not sure who can take care of themselves better. It is neck and neck, both the young and the old need baby sitters.

I use the labels Freak, Dread, and Tattoo with the young travelers I am using Old, Fat and Codger with the older ones, ooops, should not forget "Old Farts."

There is no age discrimination when it comes to travel; it appears the only variable that makes some travelers better is their ability to make decisions.

However, there is nothing common about common sense, I think the majority of traveler forget to pack it.

I would like to buy a sailboat, not too excited because I get seasick easily, however still a good moble home. I hope to travel over to Rio Dulce in the next month to nose around. I know that learning how to manage danger needs to be learned now, not later. Water versus Land travel, there are many ways to travel the planet.

Here is a jacket that would look good on any yuppie girl walking to work in the USA or Europe.

The majority of these organizations want to sell souvenirs of Guatemala to people who did not visit Guatemala. I believe if they actually chose products that are culturally compatible with the country where they wish to sell products they would actually help people to prosper and stop making beggars out of nice people.

I quit buying the majority of local clothing years ago; I do not enjoy looking like a clown when I enter the next country.

I said,
“I don’t know what is in them in the USA.”

Contrary to intellectualized ideas the world has about people on planet earth, my observation is they eat anything put in front of their face.

Travel Insurance Fine Print

Travel Insurance Fine Print
There was a report on television the other day stating that Travel Insurance often has fine print saying it does not cover countries the government has issued warnings not to enter.

If you read or subscribe to the USA government warnings, you would see this is a problem. The governments warnings normally errors on the side of caution, more or less saying to stay home.

I am going buy health insurance soon; I do not have any type of insurance presently, but could be a good idea. Then again, insurance of no insurance I am still going to travel, life is for living, not for dying.
