Clothes Pins Help Quick Dry Travel Towel

"A substance which has a larger surface area will evaporate faster as there are more surface molecules which are able to escape."
Evaporation on Wikipedia.org

I suppose in a perfect world, every Hotel would provide clean, dry and happy towels every day.
In the real world, a traveler knows he or she must carry a towel learn how to make it dry inside the Hotel room.

I have taken to using clothespins to help evaporation, by increasing the surface area the towel will dry faster.

I also place a fan in the window blowing out, that creates cross flow ventilation utilizing the lost intelligence of our ancestors long forgotten by modern man.

Eating Cheap is a Sandwich

I know I am strange, I do not fit in, I am the odd duck, and that is ok.

Turkey Sandwich

Sneaking off to Eat
I have many friends, and the other day I felt strange sitting on the curb in front of the Chalas Supermarket in Panajachel, Guatemala. Why, because I was being secretive about my eating habits, I was hiding from my friends.

The Price I pay to Travel
I am the strange duck, when other people are trying to choose restaurants; I am walking into a supermarket and buying food for a sandwich. While they are delighted to explain their wonderful gorgeous rooms, I explain how my room is convenient.

I know I am hiding all these ugly duckling habits from my friends, even though I know that eating a turkey sandwich is healthier than eating in a restaurant. Moreover, living in convenient locations saves me time, money, and frustration, whereby, I can remain calm while they are stressed.

Sometimes I venture to explain my life, however that quickly becomes stressful, I cannot change people, places or things. If I wanted to brag, I would need to explain how to make bad decisions, and how I splurged, purchased something overpriced, just because I wanted it. One of my friends told me the other day that in the USA you can take classes in "lifestyle training."

"hoist with his own petard"
I was reading about William Shakespeare’s uses of the now proverbial phrase "hoist with his own petard" in Hamlet the other day. It seems to me paying good money for lifestyle training is a good example this as they "fall into one's own trap."

Two Kisses from French Girls is Required

I was at a party last night, and as I was introduced to a French girl, she kissed me on the cheek and started to walk away, I said,
"I need two, you are French."
She came back, and said,
"I am sorry."
And she kissed me on the other cheek.

Often my life is like a movie, beautiful people surround me, and I must say thank you, I am a lucky man. I am a global citizen. I sat at the table last night, looking at the sky, wishing the rest of the world could be so lucky.

I have to ask myself,
"Why was I invited to a party on top of the world?"
"Why do I know I deserve two kisses from all the French Girls?"

Dog Bite Attorney

Managing anonymous comments is evolving; the Washington post and the New York Times are leading the way, the days of being anonymous are ending.

In 1993 Peter Steiner created this cartoon. It quickly became an icon for our understanding of the internet back then: this amazing, anonymous place where you can create whatever you want to create. Where nobody knows you’re a dog!

Before we you need a dog bite attorney, you may want to become aware of changes. It is not long before the dogs start to bite each other on Facebook.

Eventually all these dog bites are going to become legal issues, and everyone will be searching for a dog bite attorney, it is just a matter of time.

Quote:

"When news sites, after years of hanging back, embraced the idea of allowing readers to post comments, the near-universal assumption was that anyone could weigh in and remain anonymous. But now, that idea is under attack from several directions, and journalists, more than ever, are questioning whether anonymity should be a given on news sites.

The Washington Post plans to revise its comments policy over the next several months, and one of the ideas under consideration is to give greater prominence to commenters using real names.

The New York Times, The Post and many other papers have moved in stages toward requiring that people register before posting comments, providing some information about themselves that is not shown onscreen. "

Before you bite, realize, maybe I could make more money by suing you… we track IP addresses, and know more about you than you think. Maybe attorney will start trolling around on Facebook looking for libelous comments.

Corporate Email Services

Facebook.com is a few internet moments away from providing corporate email services.

People are checking their messages in Facebook before they check their email; corporations need to change before it is too late.

Corporate Email Services
I run an internet business, if a large corporation wanted marketing advice, I would say,
"All your clients are now inside Facebook, you need to market your products where your clients live."

Generally, I think when managers think about corporate email services they try to force workers to adhere to their rules, instead of removing the obstacles to production. Your workers and clients are already on Facebook, I give up, I must go to them, and they are not coming to me.

Yesterday, I observed my friend Mark here in San Pedro, Guatemala write a business email using the Facebook messaging system. I am frustrated, I want to write Mark emails, however I realize, the effective way of writing Mark is to use Facebook. I give up, Facebook wins. If I want a reply, I must use Facebook, he does not check his normal email often enough.

By the way, I think Twitter.com is almost finished, like so many other social networks; they have had their 15 minutes of fame. Adios

Broadband Connection at Home

My home today is in San Pedro, Guatemala on Lake Atitlan. The term broadband connection infers that we have a great connection. When I read broadband connection on a sign, I know there is hope, then best to test the connection.

I am testing my new Tigo Modem today, a cellular network internet connection all over the country of Guatemala.

---------------------------------

Tigo is the company Comcel
What is the best broadband connection at home? I believe the future is these thumb drive chips that have the software on them, you plug them into the USB port of your computer, the software load, and you have a connection.

Connection Interface for Tigo
I am not sure why, but you should always connect to the internet with five bars. Alternatively, disconnect and try again with five bars, the signal strength when you connect, the handshake established is better with the five bar connection.

I paid 400 Quetzals to get started with the cell phone modem.
75 for the modem
325 for the first month.
8 GIGS of transfer maybe that is just up or down I am not sure.
www.tigo.com.gt

How do I reload, I am not sure, I think I can put the SIM card into a telephone, then buy 325 Q of time and load onto the SIM, but I am not sure, I will cross that bridge in a month.

Map of the Tigo or Comcel Coverage in Guatemala GSM as of 2010, this will increase, and normally underdeveloped countries have better cell phone coverage than the USA.

Guatemala GSM
GSM, Edge, 3g, 4g, etc… does not mean much, but a couple of terms to know, even though they mean almost nothing is GSM. If I search for Guatemala GSM, I was able to find the map above, and learn how many companies serve Guatemala.

If you want to know the names of cell phone companies available in Guatemala, search in Google for Guatemala GSM, if you were in Honduras, probably search for Honduras GSM. Then hopefully you have a list of companies, in the end, I ask three or four locals what phone system they use, and go with the winner.

Testing Broadband Connection at Home
How do I test an internet connection all over the planet, I try to make either a Yahoo Messenger call or a Skype.com call.

Mom and Dad
That call you received on Wednesday morning was a test call, trying to see if that white thing plugged into my computer above works as an internet connection. I had to wait for you to get off your dial up connection to call you… hmmm

Well, Mom and Dad are using the phone, so I called directory assistance in the USA:
Area Code - 555 1212
Skype Ready Number: +12605551212

Yes, I can talk on Skype, however Tigo is a little weak, I may need move my mobile office or home to have a better broadband connection at home. I think I need to find the local cell tower and get a room whereby the window of the hotel is looking at the cell phone tower; I need a line of sight connection.

How will the world have a broadband connection in five years, I believe everyone will have either a USB cellular network internet connection with a chip, or the chip will be integrated into the computer. I believe I could buy a USB extension cord and put the chip out the window for a better connection.

I check my e-mails using my Verizon Smartphone and delete, then I connect with the Tigo Modem using the computer to type this journal post. I then send with a proprietary content management system we made, and publish the photos using WS FTP.

Finding Freelance Article Writers

This is freelance article number 5048, I have a little experience with writing, or truthfully, I am extremely experienced writer. I have been musing about how to find freelance article writers to work for HoboTraveler.com.

Are you the next Paul Theroux?

Characteristics of a Writer
What is the profile of freelance article writers, how would we stereotype and describe the typical writer? This is not easy, I only know personally a couple of people who write, and one is myself, the other is Wade Shepard from Vagabond Journey.
Interview with Wade Shepard

I know hundreds of want to be Travel Writers, and I try my best to ignore comparing myself to them. I also see many people who want to write, or more correctly, I meet and know many people who believe they have the ability to write.

I know Wade, and I know he will succeed, because he is sort of a hermit type writer, he goes into his cave and works continuously, hard to fail when you never stop working. I suppose there are three types of successful freelance article writers.

1. Work in Early Morning
- This is me, Andy Graham, I work from 5:00 am until about 8:00 am daily 365 days per year.

2. Work all the time
- This is Wade, but I think he may be evolving into the third type, but I am not sure, I think he will eventually finalize his stereotypical behavior by number three, but for now he is number two, he works all the time, he deserves to succeed.

3. Works from Midnight until they fall asleep
- I suspect there are many of these types of freelance article writers.

Why is all this important, well it is simple, a writer must learn how to get something done, the ones that get the job done are the ones that produce work daily. The ones that try to work during the middle of the day normally do interrupted work; they are not capable of doing daily work. The ones that block off time either in the early morning, number 1, or in the ones that work after midnight number 3 are the producers.

If I wanted to identify the person who will become the next Paul Theroux, I would first look for the person that can write daily, not sporadically, but daily, the person can sit down at desk and type out words on a computer daily. If there are days when nothing happens, then I am not going to encourage the person to continue.

Freelance article writers find time daily to write, they somehow find a time during the day where they are not interrupted and can get work done.

A good travel writers does not go to the internet cafe between the hours of 7:00 and 10:00 pm...unless they do not have friends and are hermits.

Volcano Warning Systems

I am living on a lake with three volcanoes, I am on Lake Atitlan in Guatemala. Now thinks about this, I was in Thailand in at the Tsunami, I was in the Philippines when there was a killer Typhoon, and I left Haiti five days before the Earthquake. Natural disaster appears to follow me around, but that is silly --- but I think about it.

I look at the Volcanoes and wonder to myself, do I need to know a volcano warning systems? There are three volcanoes on Lake Atitlan here in Guatemala, maybe that triples my chances of experiencing a volcano. Do scientists really know what they are doing, or are they just ineffective?

Two volcanoes, I am told one has two cones, is that suppose to make me feel safer?

I can go live at San Pedro, Guatemala under the volcano, which seems adventuresome. It seems prudent that I would know about volcano warning systems to live on Lake Atitlan, but I do not. How does one go about finding warning systems, nothing is obvious, there are no volcano warning signs here saying,
"You are sleeping close to Volcanoes, please monitor television station X for your personal safety."
