A list of a 10 of my favorite writers, when I discover a book written by one of the man below, I know it is good day. I am sure a psychologist could analyze this selection, and come up with some theories on who I am, or not.

Blow Nose Daily Travel Tip

Travelers encounter new dust, irritants, pollens and who-know-whats that cause our noses to become stuffed up. Travelers and Tourist need to blow their nose daily to be comfortable and happy.

There are dust mites, TMI, this is Too Much Information, but something about these little buggies makes your nose clog up, maybe it is dust, allergies, blame it on the wind, but there is something in the world happening, and your blocked nose is the symptom of the problem.

I am not a whiner, it took me years to learn this, and I can ignore discomfort until the cows come home.

My Nose is Uncomfortable
I was sitting in bed one day in some country many moons ago, I thought to myself, my nose is clogged, I cannot breath. I also snore, at least I am told, I am always asleep when I am snoring, so I am not available to observe. I realized, I need to blow my nose, now I try to remember to do this daily.

There must be 1000’s of reason why a nose become plugged up, but there is only a couple of natural ways of un-clogging it.

Blowing Your Nose

1. Toilet paper with one nostril at a time.
2. Hold one nostril and point, not for the weak a culture.

Not Natural

Any type of sinus medicine, and for sure I do not want to open this pull-the-thread explanation of medical solutions. There are again many many many types of pills, sprays, powder, steams, mist makers, and other almost quaky solutions. I think the majority of people could just use a placebo and get I over with…

Bottom line, when you are a perpetual traveler, if you become a professional travel, the air, room, ecosystem you live in is going to change, your nose will know.

Blow you nose in the morning and maybe you will stop whining, but I doubt it.

dr1.com

You can find Dominican Republic Expatriates lurking around an internet site called dr1.com.

I have been sitting around in Rocky’s a famous Expatriate hangout listening to people fight over dr1.com. I could only hope the world is fighting about my site, this for sure is a sign of success.

Expatriate Insider Sites

ThaiVisa.com is one of the best for Thailand, and I believe you could consider HarryTheHorse.com an insider’s site for the Philippines.

Well, DR1.com should probably be put on the same ground, while maybe a little more of a news site than the other two, but I hear has an active forum.

How Insiders Sites Work
Normally, there is a forum you can join, I try to subscribe to the daily newsletters or Blogs and receive the updates daily in my email box. It is an easy way to monitor what is happening in a different sphere of influence, a different culture, a different world, and few people who we probably should keep a keen eye, just to be sure.

I now subscribe to dr1.com by email, I get a daily email, I skim it and delete, trying to watch over the shoulder of the Expats, making sure I am an insider and not an outsider.

Hmm, I think Khao San Road, in Thailand has Stickman, but never monitored enough to understand the modus operandi.

Note this is a pretty good guide or way to evaluate the safety of the country you want to visit, as it does have many categories. I would only use this as a guide, fun to see who is doing good also in the minds of a liberal save the planet, hug a tree world.

BloggingHeads.TV

I am jealous of BloggingHeads.TV site, I am openly envious, and I want Hobo to have this dual TV feature. I want to interview people I admire, whereby I can emulate them better. I try my best to copy from the best, before I think I am smart.

Look at this TV thingy, sort of an out of the box view of life, I enjoy it is enough to say, it is interestingly pompous, they make me think.

Below is an example of BloggingHeads.tv, watch these two American girls for kicks, give the site a lick, maybe a taste, and you can understand why American Women are not on my short list. Better yet, go their site, pick, and choose, they are a different voice than normal TV, and this makes me listen, instead of tuning them out.

Slap the Owners
I want to slap the owners of the site, I want to them to explain to me clearly, simply and without any confusion, how they do these interviews.

Sometimes they people have telephone in their hands, sometimes the have computer headsets.

This is the future, better get prepared now, the typing is going to end.

That is Life in Dominican Republic

I know we must accept life, on life’s terms; however, there are many lives to be lived on planet earth.

Arroz Chaufa, a Chinese / Latino food dish, normally cost about one U.S. Dollar.

When a group of foreigner sits around a table in a country one of them will pipe up and tell a story of what happened to them, I often say.
"Bienvenido a Republica Dominicana"

These words changes by country, Sawadee Krap Thailand, Welcome to the USA, etc, it is my commitment to accept the country as it is, not as I want it to be.

Cultural Insight Story
I joined a Netherlands man who lives here in Sosua for a bite to eat the other night. He tells me the restaurant was good, and he eats there often. I saw some Chaufa; I had eaten this in both the Cities of Elias Pinas and La Vega.

I thought my friend knew the restaurant, so I do not ask
"How much is it?"

I go to pay, I take out 50 Pesos, about 1.50, and he looks at me and said,
"It is probably 100."
I said,
"You’re kidding?"
She came and said,
"150 Pesos."
"Five Dollars."
I said,
"Esta un broma?"
"No posible?"

Sosua Dominican Republic is Expensive
The food in the super market here in Sosua is the most expensive I have encountered in 12 years of continuous travel. In addition, this includes seven islands of the Caribbean and six months in Europe, the food cost is crazy, they will ask 10 dollars for a box of cereal.

I know this, but this is rice, a staple, I could not find meat in the plate.

Opinion of Dominican Local
I tell this story to a Dominican Local; I say the restaurant was a "Tramposo."
He says,
"This is not a cheat, this is smart."
"Vivo."
That is life.
… an ugly feeling creeps down my spine, I look into his eyes, and I see something black.

Bienvenido a Republica Dominicana

Clever is Celebrated
The world celebrates clever; I do not like this temptation, if one day I accepted this doctrine, and decided to make money by being clever, I would have an unfair advantage.

Three people have been murdered in Sosua in the last month. This is like Jamaica, a great place for people from New York.

Sosua Dominican Republic Real Estate

Commercial Real Estate in Sosua, Dominican Republic looks bleak as of February 2010. Here are three photos of building all within three block of the core business center of Sosua.

Vacant, or mostly... Number 1 on Sosua Map.

Note: The Coyote Bar mysteriously burned down a couple of week ago, I think the Russian owner had insurance...

Buying Homes in Dominican Republic
People go on vacation, have fun, get laid, and think they are in paradise, in this intoxicated state of delirium, they purchase Real Estate, called Bienes Raices in Spanish, more or less meaning good roots. (For sure, the roots are deeper outside the USA than inside.)

There appears to be an overbuild situation here in Sosua, the luster has been lost, the thrill is gone, the wanna follow crowd is moving down the road to the next trendy place. The peak value of tourist trap Real Estate is difficult to know, but there is a time when everything touched turns to gold, that is not today in Sosua.

Real Estate Sales to Expatriates
There is a cycle of purchase and sales of Real Estate to Expatriates initially purchased because they got laid, and eventually they feel like they were screwed.

1. Excitement of the place.
2. Purchase Home, Land, etc.
3. Own for 2-7 years.
4. Acceptance they paid too much.
5. Try to sell in normal methods.
6. Realize, the only one foolish enough to purchase are:
--- Tourist who are intoxicated in Sosua, who just got laid.
Or
--- People on the Internet, too stupid to realize value of Real Estate compared to the USA is not good logic.
7. On the Market for 1-5 years.
8. Sell the property and leave town, never admitting to their friend the price.

Generally, in my experience, very few people who come from highly developed countries live more than about seven years; they get the seven-year itch; know they must return to sanity and move home. They live the rest of their live wishing they could have somehow seized that great feeling they had when they first purchased Real Estate overseas.

It is Possible

It is often possible to rent a 500,000 home in tourist area for 700-1000 dollars per month. If you can do the math, you realize the cost of renting is the better deal.

Then when you are bored with the local action, you can move onto the next trendy tourist area that is emerging somewhere on the planet and do it again.

Sadly, I have realized in my 12 years of travel, every time I return to my favorite Expat location, half my friend are gone, often none of my former friends are around, it is not the same place I left.

Real Estates owns the person, the person does not own the Real Estates, there are roots put down that are hard to sell. Internet sites for Expats are always full of Real Estate deals being offered by other Expats or foreigners; everyone is always trying to find the next chump, the down stream chump method of Real Estate sales.

Expatriated men in foreign countries want to buy women, and buy homes, in reality, it is always a leasehold right to ownership, and not a freehold.

Chaos is my Paradise

I want you to watch this video, it explains how normal people are often asleep, and do not want to be disturbed. Explanations of my chaotic life wakes up people, this is not always a good thing, but it may be the best thing.

Chaos: Lacking Predictability

Not Predictable
Why is this important to me, I have this quirky way of writing, that somehow engages the minds of readers, it can make some long deep seated feelings come bursting to the surface, the reader than proceeds to try to provoke, mock, and destroy my sense of happiness with torrents of comments. They do not destroy my calm, it cannot work, writing is like a sport to me, the goal is to make readers feel. When I want, I can easily avoid playing, while they are obsessed with what they see an insult, they continue to return to this well, and try to attack again and again, they cannot leave, I awoke them, the reader felt something. I see my life as a chaotic paradise, which is confusing to people Happiness is not being in a Five Star resort surrounded by bikinis, happiness is when we are in chaos, we are happy, and we know it is paradise.

Thank you David for sending the link to this video, I enjoy insightful explanations.

I change my home daily, or weekly, I never have the same bed, the same closet, and the same showers. The rules of my existence change daily, I cannot anticipate that tomorrow will be the same as yesterday.

I enjoy being awake, if I fall asleep, I will travel to a more chaotic situation, a place where my mind is challenged, where I am alive. Readers come and go, some wake up, and maybe stay awake, others just go back to sleep. It is not comfortable to be awake, it means we have to care, feel, and accept that life is good, or bad, and it is our responsibility.

Haiti was paradise, this beach Resort called Sosua is just me stopping to clean up my internet house, the calm before the storm.
