We offer volunteer projects for the globally-minded individual searching for a unique travel experience. We are a US based non-profit volunteer organization offering short term volunteer placements working on international social projects in South America. Our programs are located throughout Chile and provide vital social support to low income communities in need of assistance. We offer volunteer programs in orphanage assistance, teaching English and healthcare projects in urban and rural areas throughout Chile. Our projects are based in La Serena, Elqui Valley, Santiago and Concepcion. Volunteer work schedule is 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday. Program Includes: Accommodations at a local Spanish colonial style guesthouse or Homestay. All meals included. Airport transfers on arrival and departure. Arrival orientation and city tour, introduction and placement in a volunteer work project. We include half day Spanish language lessons. We place volunteers in short term and long term assignments in urban settings and in rural villages; in dormatory or home stay accommodation. Each recipient programme is geared to welcome new volunteers into their society and to provide as many opportunities as possible to participate in the social and cultural events availavle in the community. The work consists of teaching both mothers and children, but usually only children. Kp Cunningham Mr. http://www.campchile.com Quillota - Quillota - Chile 2005-12-02 16:54:48 I am looking for six to eight volunteers to come live and work in Quillota, Chile as English instructors and/or farmers at Camp Chile (www.campchile.com – double click on the photos for more photos). My greatest need, at this time, is for English instructors although there is an on going need for farm volunteers. Camp Chile is a small summer camp for Chilean youngsters, mostly middle school age, set on 400 hectares of plantation about an hours bus ride from the Santiago airport. Volunteers need to arrive no later than 5 January 2006 and are expected to work through the end of February 2006. There may be agricultural work at other times but the months of January and February are focused on the summer camp and, as I have stated, I need to fill instructor slots for this season. Volunteers who provide English instruction are expected to work 8 to 9 hours per day. Hours are generally 9 to 5, five to six days per week. The average work week is five weekdays. Volunteers should be flexible and willing to work at other tasks, like cleaning their own housings, but the focus of instructor work is teaching English. Volunteers are trusted to develop their own lesson plans and schedules for their students. The camp is run according to a learning should be F.U.N.N. (functional understanding not necessary – borrowed from Project Adventure) philosophy. I’m sure that we could dig up some desks if they were truly needed but the hope is that they are unnecessary. Lessons can and should be informal and conversational. Volunteers are encouraged to develop their own standards within cultural norms but the aim of volunteer time is to familiarize participants with informal English as it is spoken in America. It is not necessary to have even the most basic understanding of Spanish to apply or be accepted for this position. Neither is a background in education a requirement. It is expected that volunteers will be eager, diligent, creative, self responsible and comfortable with improvisation and self direction. There is neither a salary nor a stipend for this work and volunteers are expected to make their own travel arrangements. However, free, pleasant housing – two to a room, with two indoor bathrooms and a full kitchen and food are provided. It helps to remember that the camp is located on a 400 hectare avocado, citrus and olive plantation and there is space for, a tradition of, and an active interest in a small organic truck garden for the volunteer staff. Meals are family style prepared by volunteers. The camp is located near Quillota and it is convenient and regular, by taxi or semi-decent bike ride, to go to town. There is an incoming phone line at the volunteer house but neither an out going line nor internet. Internet and outcalls can and should be made from one of the several internet/telephone café’s in Quillota proper.
