Hey Andy,

I would like to volunteer in Antarctica. I don't have a grandfather working on submarine or a biology degree but I love to help people and the planet Earth with whatever it takes.
I'm really good with planning/scheduling, cooking, I have some computer skills or I can help with tourists (since I speak 3 languages: Hungarian, English and Spanish) or anything else.
Why volunteer? Our life has to have a reason, a reason to be born. We cannot just live our lives meaningless and be selfish and just worry about ourselves. Why Antarctica? Why not...after this I will volunteer in Africa and Central-America as well.
My husband is a dentist in Washington, D.C., has his own practice and he will be volunteering in Sierra Leone this year but I did not qualify for their sponsorship to travel with them since I don't have a medical degree. They will be helping the people in poor villages for 1 week. I don't know if I can apply with you to go to Sierra Leone to help but I won't lose anything by trying. We have already donated our time to help children with learning disabilities and women with breast cancer and we also donated a small amount of money to a central-american hospital. We truly are trying to make a difference.
I'm a 33 years old female, my husband is 45. We both love photography and travelling, get to know new people and destinations. We are both physically fit for this challenge or any other but I cannot volunteer for more than two weeks per year (that is how much vacation time I have for the whole year including sick and personal leave).

Hey

I am a recent BSc Molecular Cell Biology student from the University of York in England where I obtained a high 2.1 classification.

Although a molecular biologist by nature, throughout my entire four year degree I undertook a variety of ecology and marine biology based modules many of which gave me a detailed understanding of antartcic ecosystems, climate and geography.

Since graduating in July I have been travelling the world and am currently travelling around Australia. Since beginning my travels I have worked a variety of unique ecology/biology related jobs including (but not exclusive to):-

* Monitoring of the bioeroding red-sponge (Cliona sp) on the Pinctada maxima Pearl shell
* Sand and soil analysis (CO2, pH, biomass composition, arthropod identification) along coastal waters of the Dampier Peninsula.
* Surgical implantation of seeds into the nacre producing mantle region of the Pearl shell Pinctada maximus. Also included host-donor mantle tissue grafts.
* Removal of biofouling species Barnacles (Balanus amphitrite variegates), Sea-squirts (Ciona intestinalis), Pteria spp.
* Biodynamic/environmentally-frienly pest management of the vineyards in South Australia
* Turtle monitoring and conservation along the Cable Beach region
* I will also be participating in a shark migration and tracking programme on the East Coast as of March 2009 spending a few months at sea and tagging various shark species with satellite GPS trackers.

I also undertook a variety of Geology modules and field excursuions whilst on a years exchange at the University of California at Santa Barbara. This enabled me to explore and experience many remote regions of the Western US coast (Majave desert, Mammoth Mountain, Searls saltpans in Trona, coastal archipelago, Panam meteortite crater). As such I have a variety of geology based techniques (soil boring, soil gas composition, seismology etc) which may also come in handy on a research trip to Antarctica.

Biology, and travelling is my life, and a trip to Antarctica (for however long it may be) is my greatest dream. Whether it be assisting a fellow scientist to conduct their studies, an educational cruise or simply assisting in the delivery of cargo to remote Antarctic communities... Please consider me.

I am from North Dakota orginally. so as you may know very used to a cold climate. often its over 20 and 30 degrees below zero. I am a very physically strong and have many handy skills. I have experience in Carpentry, training animals, horses, dogs, ox and mules. I also have alot of web programming experience and run a small computer company on the side. I also weld, farm (indoors) and have a good basic knowledge of mechanics. i also cater vegetarian food to our local area and believe i can cook quite well. i am a full time sales rep for a meat alternative food company. I am a great organizer and have high hopes in helping people learn to respect the planet. I want to find a group who can help prep me to go to antarctica and do what i can to help. by the way i love the cold and find it to be peaceful. I am 26 yrs. am 220 lbs and always have an open mind. i am happy to do what i am told and i always follow protocol. Please consider me as a volunteer.
