peter has voted to Send Andy to Maldives!, (1 vote for Maldives)
go to the maldives. It is a beautiful, magical and peaceful place.
The country is threatened by sea level rise due to climate change.
While you are there, learn about climate change and the reasons for it.
Atmospheric CO2 levels have been raised by burning of fossil fuels. CO2 in the atmosphere acts like a blanket, trapping heat, leading to higher average annual temperatures. The 8 hottest years on record have happened in the last 12 years.
CO2 levels must be reduced by reducing the rate of emissions of CO2 into the atmosphere. You could make a difference by raising awareness and possibly by influencing your readers.
ash has voted to Send Andy to Bhutan!, (9 votes for Bhutan)
I would like Andy to visit Bhutan because I want to visit Bhutan. Since it looks like a potential minefield of beaurocracy to get in and live cheap, I would like someone with experience to try it first o)

Stephen Rice has voted to Send Andy to Romania!, (1 vote for Romania)
http://www.stevescarpool.com
Romania is just one of those countries you don't hear people talk of much. There are several countries that surround it and I think it would be a good starting place for the next adventure.
Eva Patterson has voted to Send Andy to Haiti!, (15 votes for Haiti)
Looking at the votes...
Cuba is too easy a place to travel.
Haiti sounds interesting, more exciting. It would be a greater benefit to all travellers if you went (and wrote) on Haiti.
I'd like to go there too, but would be stronger in my conviction if I knew you'd gone before.
Thanks for all the places you go, photos you take and narratives you share
:-)

Hi Andy,
Looks like you haven't seen Scandinavia and Denmark is a good central point to see it and the rest of northern Europe. It's cold and rather dark this time of the year but some great cross country skiing in Norway and Sweden. In Denmark be sure to check out Christiania.
Looking forward to hearing about where end up next.

Roger Bourgein has voted to Send Andy to Cuba!, (15 votes for Cuba)
Went earlier in 2009, eye opening experience, remarkable people, educated, healthy, poor in material things but a richness of humanity the like of which I've never experienced before.

Bobby (Travel Addict) has voted to Send Andy to Iran!, (5 votes for Iran)
http://www.traveladdict.org
I have heard great things about Iran despite the bad press it gets. I want to see more about middle eastern countries as they are the ones I know the least about. I like your posts and pictures as a traveler so I can see it through your eyes.
I read that Spring and Autumn are the best seasons to visit Iran. Summer is ok if you can take middle eastern heat.
I am very interested in the culture and customs of Iran. Their modes of travel, ways of life, and especially the food.
Cheers,
Bobby
Michael Megan has voted to Send Andy to Ireland!, (4 votes for Ireland)
Best time is summer.
Sharry graham has voted to Send Andy to Haiti!, (15 votes for Haiti)
I think it may be warm. I do not know the best time of the year. I saw a thing on TV where men collect bars of soap from hotels and motels when people leave these sample size soap that is in the room for convenience and send it to Haiti and the people there are thrilled to receive them because they have lots of problems having soap. Mothers seemed so happy to have bars soap to wash their children. I would like to see how children are taken care of in this country.
Jerold R Graham has voted to Send Andy to Haiti!, (15 votes for Haiti)
I voted because your mom said to
Sean has voted to Send Andy to Cuba!, (15 votes for Cuba)
I think the biggest challenge for Andy regarding Cuba would be the prices applied to foreigners. It is not a cheap country to travel around, and I would like to see which budget is actually needed for Cuba, especially since I am also wanting to go there myself on a budget perhaps next year (if it's not too expensive, that is).
Mike has voted to Send Andy to Cuba!, (15 votes for Cuba)
Cuba is forbidden for Americans, and I would like to see if Andy is willing to take the risk and go there.

walter terry has voted to Send Andy to Cuba!, (15 votes for Cuba)
Andy: I have always been curious about the country of Cuba and the Communist government of Fidel Castro. I hope to visit Cuba at some point when the travel restrictions are lifted for US citizens. I know that you can enter Cuba and they do not stamp your passport well familiar with that and I've read many stories about however I'm basically a person follows and regulations. As to the timing here to visit Cuba I think any time would be fine and I would hope that you could visit the entire island. I know that you would do a good job of reporting back the actual experiences and the costs involved. So much of what we read I believe is not what is the real experience of traveling to a country that I believe your type are reporting is the real deal. Thanks again for your excellent work and I do try to read your blog every day. I did read a book one day about Cuba and that's where a man many communities on a motorcycle and I believe he was British but I cannot think of the name of the book I found it very interesting. Thanks again. Walt Terry
Susan Cobbs has voted to Send Andy to Cuba!, (15 votes for Cuba)
Many Americans will not be able to see the real Cuba before the embargo is lifted and instead will experience something different from today.

Eye Candy and himself without the 10 to 15 extra lbs
Michael Pekay has voted to Send Andy to Bhutan!, (9 votes for Bhutan)
I am told it is the happiest place on earth. I would veryu much like to go there myself. I assume it is quite costly to try and travel there independently. Andy has the smarts and means of accessing Bhutan better than me. He can let all us readers know whether it is true, Is Bhutan the happiest place on earth?
I think the best time to visit may have passed. It would be similar to the seasons of the Himalyas, Nepal, Tibet etc. Maybe next year!
I want him to visit the general places of interest, towns and temples, how people make a living there, why are they so happy?
CHUCK has voted to Send Andy to England!, (1 vote for England)
I WOULD LOVE TO SEEN ENGLAND AGAIN!
Brian McKay has voted to Send Andy to Jamaica!, (2 votes for Jamaica)
http://yankeesabroad.com
I've only been in Jamaica 1 to 3 weeks at a time, and only Kingston, so I'd like to read your observations of Jamaica and Jamaicans. It's an English-speaking country... yet a dialect is spoken...
Jill van Vucht has voted to Send Andy to Papua-new-guinea!, (1 vote for Papua-new-guinea)
It is a melanesian culture , different from where Andy has been in Africa and South East Asia.and South America. The sepik has lots of art work- as well as the Highlands ,.and many photographic opportunities .He could even venture into West Papua .
New Guinea has sentimental value for me as I used to visit there, as a child and stayed with an Aunt and Uncle who lived there for 23 years, mainly in Port Moresby. .
(Andy could then perhaps come onto the land down under and even , visit the South Pacific ).
It is a tropical country so I don't think there would be a best time time to visit .
If Andy is fit enough he could even tackle the notorious Kokoda trail , or venture down the Fly River, or dive in Milne Bay,or visit the Trobriands the famous Islands of Love,.where Margaret Meaad did her anthropological studies.
English would be spoken there and it's close enough to good medical facilities in Cairns.
It probably attracts lots of interesting characters as it did in the times, when it was an Australian trust territory.
( I have been following Andys blog for many years )
Ed Salamon has voted to Send Andy to Iran!, (5 votes for Iran)
Iran...any time...this is such an interesting time to witness relations between Iran and the rest of the world, not to mention Iran's relationship with itself. It would be refreshing to hear an account of life in Iran from a neutral party. Thanks and keep up the good work.
Charlie has voted to Send Andy to Haiti!, (15 votes for Haiti)
It seems right now to be an exacaiting place for Andy. Very few people have traveled to Haiti. It will be interesting to read Andy's reactions to the people and places in Haiti. I look forward to his adventures.
Tom the Okie has voted to Send Andy to Cuba!, (15 votes for Cuba)
Hi Andy,
I would like you to go to Cuba and check out the medical system first hand. Find out if it would be a good choice for a medical tourist. My gut feeling on all the arguments againest universal health care is B.S. If such a small poor country can do it. Why not us. Keep up the good work. Later, Tom
slimbag has voted to Send Andy to Cuba!, (15 votes for Cuba)

tg has voted to Send Andy to Bhutan!, (9 votes for Bhutan)
I want to know more about this country from a seasoned voyager like Andy.
David has voted to Send Andy to Gabon!, (1 vote for Gabon)
Some good reasons to leave for Gabun:
1. political tensions (they just "elected" the son of the former President Bongo who died app. 3 months ago)
2. Former French colony: you can brush up your French
3. You told youself some days ago, you should leave for Africa
4. Amazing nature
5. Gabun is called the Switzerland of Africa (but I guess, it´s meant more ironically)
good premises for looking for the cheapest, but best places around.
6. Sao TomeandPrincipe is near: you can go there easily by ship.
7. After Gabun, you can choose: Cameroon, Centralafrican Republic, Congo Brazzaville.
Interesting neighbours.
8. railways: interesting tour through the country.
9. Interesting National Parcs.
Ed Schriefer has voted to Send Andy to Cuba!, (15 votes for Cuba)

Time has stopped in this country and the propoganda is amazing. Unfortunately i dont think you can leave the guide and the soldiers and do some travelling yourself, coz you will get killed.
My origin is South Korean and would love to visit North Korea.
Good luck!
Don has voted to Send Andy to Thailand!, (1 vote for Thailand)
First, I am thoroughly enjoying Andy's newsletter. I am wanting to begin to travel and possibly work and travel.
I am planning my first trip to Asia (Thailand) as soon as possible to meet a personal serious interest. I realize Any has been there but would just love to hear his views on Thailand. Maybe, I can find them in the archives, if that is possible. I have not referred to them yet.
Thank you,
Keep traveling and writing. I am hoping to learn and use some of his experiences.

R C Powell has voted to Send Andy to Afghanistan!, (1 vote for Afghanistan)
When I was there in 1978 -- just as the Taliban were starting to "disappear" the intellectual class -- I found the countryside -- the hills and the lakes -- beautiful. Afghan men reminded me very much of American Midwestern farmer/businessmen. I felt safe among everyone except for the so-called scholars, the Taliban.
Other than during the winter, the weather is said to be somewhat moderate year-round.
I guess I would like Andy to ascertain whether the Afghan farmer/ businessmen of the late 1970s still exist -- or whether that entire class of men is now gone.
In Kabul I stayed at the Hotel Khourasan, then next door to the Pakistan Embassy, which then was next door to the bus company handling overland buses from Peshawar. Soon after I left, the hotel was taken over by mujahideen commander Masood and his men.
In Bamian I stayed in a yurt. I wonder if the yurts are still there for rent.
In Mazar-e-Sharif I rested in a caravanasari -- and no one bothered me. It was a "live and let live" atmosphere.
Brandon Whisenhunt has voted to Send Andy to Iran!, (5 votes for Iran)
Iran is a often misunderstood country.

I would like you to go to Cuba on your next flight!
Therese has voted to Send Andy to Bhutan!, (9 votes for Bhutan)
I have read that the people of Bhutan are very kind, civil and live in relative harmony compared to other cultures. It is also a very beautiful and healing place. I think that Andy needs to go to a beautiful and healing place right now in order to nurture and continue to heal his physical and spiritual self.
Isaac Scheib has voted to Send Andy to Haiti!, (15 votes for Haiti)

Kara Bay has voted to Send Andy to Bhutan!, (9 votes for Bhutan)

I am actually leaving for Bhutan in two days and it is a fantastic place to visit. October and November are the best times to go in terms of weather. You can also go to the Thimphu Festival at that time of year.
Chris has voted to Send Andy to Russia!, (2 votes for Russia)
It would be interesting to see Andy travel outside of his "comfort zone" (the tropical regions) and explore a country like Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Iceland or Greenland for a while.

Charles Osborne has voted to Send Andy to Dominican-republic!, (1 vote for Dominican-republic)
real cost of living. How safe for an expat.
Eric has voted to Send Andy to Madagascar!, (5 votes for Madagascar)
"Madagascar's long isolation from the neighboring continents has resulted in a unique mix of plants and animals, many found nowhere else in the world some ecologists refer to Madagascar as the "eighth continent". - Wikipedia
80 of the animal and plant species are endemic to Madagascar.
4th largest island in the world.
It's Africa!
Mostly tropical, warm year round, has beaches, should be fairly cheap once your there (considering the purchasing power range). I'd say go between April and October to avoid the heavy rain.
The capital, largest city and most likely entry point Antananarivo sits at 1300 meters.
Limited flight options however, depending on what direction, looks like Paris, Bangkok, Nairobi or Johannesburg may be stepping stones.

http://www.myspace.com/baronmarsh
Why? Because it's illegal for most Americans to visit and I like seeing taboos broken.
Anytime.
A photo of Andy and Castro both in the image would be cool. We can't expect a side-by-side photo but maybe Andy can snap a picture of himself with Castro in the background at some public event where Castro is speaking.
Jerry D. Welsh has voted to Send Andy to Morocco!, (1 vote for Morocco)
I was in Morocco for two years and enjoyed it. I would like to hear about the country from Andy's prospective.

Not many people go there. It would be cool.
TheButterflyTribeKhalifa has voted to Send Andy to Sao-tome-and-principe!, (1 vote for Sao-tome-and-principe)
I am particularly interested in Dubai. I have heard much about this city, and it's modern atmosphere. I am particularly interested in how they use the sea a lot - for converting it to drinking water, and the building of the many man made islands in the neighboring sea.
OverlandGirl has voted to Send Andy to Haiti!, (15 votes for Haiti)
You and I have been traveling around the world for a long time :-) (I think my count is @ 76, 77 counting South Korea next month).
I've always wanted to go to Haiti, but have held off because of the war. I think the timing is right to go now....before tourism sets in too heavily and makes visiting unpleasant.
Think about travelling January-Feb. It should be after hurricane season. It will be a good way to avoid the cold of winter (you might be close, if you're in the States for the holidays) and it should be easy to get around...which would be good for you facilitiation.
If you find you like it - I'll follow, either March 2010 or Jan 2011.
If I had a second vote, I'd send you to Butan @ Dec. Another place I've wanted to visit for more than a decade (since I met a very nice Butanese man on a train in India who spoke highly of his country and the people). Like Haiti, I think now is the time to go - before it gets too touristy.
Thank you again for the all the postings. It's one of the few things that keeps my travellust alive through the many months I'm tied to my regular office job.
Best wishes for your health and future travels,
OverlandGirl (pls do not publish the email acct - thank you)
Rose has voted to Send Andy to Australia!, (3 votes for Australia)
I have been reading about Australia..it is a fascinating, and amazingly enough, not heavily explored country.
Go to the Outback, Andy. I want to hear about it.
Whenever it is winter there, I believe that would be around July or so, but I am not sure. Otherwise, it will be very hot.

Russell Argus has voted to Send Andy to Australia!, (3 votes for Australia)
It is my home country and I would like to get your "slant" on how you see it. I am probably a bit biased!!
Australia can be visited all year round as it is such a large and diverse country. You woundn't go to the top end durinmg the summer wet season but it is bueatfully warm during winter.
I think you should most ceertainly travel the east coast from Melbourne to Cairns, then over to Darwin down thru the centre via Ayres Rock and Alice Springs then over to Western Australia.
I think you would enjoy Austraila but it is a lot more costly than say Thailand or The Phillipiones.
I enjoy reading your blog. Keep up the good work.
Regards
Russell
Pat Patten has voted to Send Andy to Malta!, (2 votes for Malta)
http://www.hereandtherewithpatandbob.com
Andy,
Malta is a great place to go for several reasons:
Recently got In the European Union and you can see what effect that has had
Densley populated
Not too cold in the winter
Great place to visit for historical reasons such as:
Knights of St. John (which is what the KnightsTemplars who survived had changed their name to) had their base there once, Napoleon was there and kicked out the Knights of St. John/Templars
English speaking
The grand harbour of Malta is a spectacular sight to behold.
My husband, Bob, has been there and said you would love it.
All the best, Pat

austen barranco has voted to Send Andy to Madagascar!, (5 votes for Madagascar)
Very exotic. Hi Andy. Do you have work for me? thanks
chris has voted to Send Andy to Russia!, (2 votes for Russia)
I just hear that this is a very interesting country and people. Eurasian minds, and a live for the moment perspective. Also, witness the residual affects of socialism on values and personality (maybe - Im sure they have learned fast).
The many of the most interesting books and other writing of the past 5 years that I have read have come from foreigners living here. One of them described Moscow circa 1999 as the modern day Blade Runner city come to life...although he may have been romantacizing a bit:)
And I hear that much of Russia is very beautiful and warm, as contrasted with the stereotype of the west. You could spend a lot of time getting to know the various parts of Russia. And the women are supposed to be phenomenal and very approachable/friendly.
Moscow
St Petersburg
endlesss possibilities, but Id stick to the larger cities...
Ron LaFleur has voted to Send Andy to Ukraine!, (1 vote for Ukraine)
