Mega Ethiopia

Mega, Ethiopia
A great change of channel, the city of Mega, Ethiopia has been wonderful, nice people, respectful people and I seldom hear the words “You, money.” I suspect there are no Non Governmental Agencies here to teach these folks how to beg.

I met a few genuinely nice people in Mega; two older men even helped me to carry my bags to the bus in the morning.

The Hotel room cost 20 Birr or two dollars and was ok, the room are extremely safe, small fortresses and almost impossible to break into. However, the shared shower areas are just room where a person can use a bucket to have a dip shower, and the toilet is a squat hole in the floor.

This girl ran a shop across the street from my Hotel in Mega, she was incredibly intuitive and we had some great conversations even though she did not speak English. When two people are on the same level of understanding, then communication problems disappear. There are people who focus on not understanding, and there are others who intuitively are able to understand. Travel life is easier when you limit your conversations to people you click with and understand immediately.

She gave me a small lecture that it was better to eat cookies with milk in them, then the ones with only sugar, this all was done without a common language.

This man has on an Indiana University shirt, this is where I went to University and I thought my parents would find is funny. I am in a very small village in Ethiopia, how does an “Indiana University” shirt make its way to this city and country.
