I was in Bamako, Mail, flew to Thaland fromr there for a 1500 one-way ticket, I think my record price to pay.. Timbuctu or Mali is a better country for Women than Men, I think it is like the Turags in Niger or the Gambia for women, I truly do not want to know.
Strange out Islamic countries can be popular with women.

The video was blocked in Peru? This really sucks, embedding videos helps YouTube.com then they play this game... aagh.
It is not blocked in Indiana, USA.
The flight cost 850 Dollars one way from Fort Wayne, I purchased on Kayak.com and it pushed me to Vayama to purchase. I truly screwed up on the Visa because I did not think I needed one, then did a call audible and recovered.
This visa expediting company worked great.

First time in 12 years where I have truly made a bad visa choice, but I am happy to know I can pay my way through for the Stan Brothers, or even for Liberia, and Sierra Leone.

Since Ivory Coast has changed their Visa rules, the best strategy for flying into West Africa and "Exiting" is difficult. Most people bounce of of Nigeria and turn around, a few continue by car. A round trip ticket to Ghana is going to work for 90 percent of travelers. The longer term travelers can fly to Ghana and make their way around in a circle. Togo, Benin, Niger, Burkina Faso, Mali and over to Mauritania and up, this would be the simple overland route.
The route I am taking is not taken, and I need to check, but there Ivory Coast is not covered often, and they skip Liberia or Sierra Leone. Not that I care, this is when life become interesting. When you leave the countries where there is a guidebook.
95 percent of "Backpackers" are "Flashpackers." They could deal with East Africa, they will not deal well with a 5-7 country trip into West Africa. 95 percent of African travelers buy 4 x 4 and call it an adventure, also sort of silly. Africa could be easy in a small air conditioned car purchased for a couple of thousand dollars. But cars mean tons or rules and expense, I am not a babysitter.
Looks like a great adventure. Wish I could go. I went to Morrocco and there are not soo many people speaking English there. I had to hire a guide to get around because of the language problems and the full taxi style of travel. It was interesting and I really enjoyed getting off the regular tourist track. I wish I had gone further.
Hope you have a wonderful time.
Pick me up some shoes before you leave.
