There is a passage in On The Road about one of Kerouac’s friends who saw a hobo as a young child and decided that day he wanted to be one. Or so Jack claims.
I disagree with you when you say that people do not want to work. I think many people actually do, theoretically, but either have not found the kind of “work” per se, that they enjoy yet, or their fondness of doing whatever they earn their money with has vanished over the years or due to circumstances. Sure, I doubt an Office-Temp gets off on 50 hour work weeks, but a few lucky bastards do have the job they want.
